Give me the Bears 34-31. PNG has done pretty well at Montgomery stadium so far. Besides, if you're going to be in the playoffs then get used to not playing at home. Quote
CS. Posted October 27 Report Posted October 27 You could make the case that PNG has played slightly better on the road. Quote

I guess we will see. PNG defense is quicker, faster and all around better this year and a lot deeper in personnel. Really, this entire team on both sides of the ball will and is causing problems for any opponent. JBB99 1 Quote

So far this season they have played extremely well away as opposed to home. Maybe some low key coaching to prepare for playoffs. Be successful where you normally would be uncomfortable? Matthew328 Posted October 28 Report Posted October 28 I expect PNG to win this by 10-14 points....I'm not 100% sold on Montgomery yet... JBB99, CS., abPNUT and 1 other 3 1 Quote
Darth Texas Posted October 28 Author Report Posted October 28 I don’t think Montgomery being at home is going to be a factor. PNG has only lost two away games in the Joseph era (20-2 overall)(that’s not counting neutral site playoff games). Our last loss away was to Port Arthur in week 1 of the 2023 season. Our last loss away to a 5ad2 team was in September 2022 against Fort Bend Marshall. None of that has any effect on this week’s game, but it’s to show that this staff and team do a good job overcoming whatever a team’s home field advantage might be. For not being sold on Montgomery predicting 10/14 pts is still a tight game against #3 ranked in state. At least your not predicting a route. Quote
Eazy Posted October 28 Report Posted October 28 Yep. It was a 6 point game last year. Mr. Buddy Garrity 1 Quote
spudaroo Posted October 28 Report Posted October 28 Some history: The two teams have met only 3 times in the history of PNG. Twice in the playoffs, once in district. One was at Baytown, other two in PNG. Montgomery has never had a home game against PNG. 2021 playoffs PNG 49- Montgomery (10-2) 41, 2022 playoffs PNG 38- Montgomery (2-9) 17, 2024 PNG 37- Montgomery (8-3) 31. Seems to be relative close games. Quote

All 10-14 point games aren't created equally....but also I shoulda clarified I'm not sold on Montgomery being elite...I think they are a good team...probably top 15, at worst top 20 in 5A-D2...but not sure they are top 5 level Quote

Last year's game the #1 RB (Chatagnier) went down early with injury, and Tyson Henry was running with a bad ankle. Different core of receivers last year, different defense, or defensive effort, perhaps. This could end up being a close game, I don't know, but I don't see it having to do with last season's game. buccaneers4lyfe Posted October 29 Report Posted October 29 I dont see anyway this game is a blowout based on scores & common opponents, I am going off the grid here. Give me the Bears by a FG late. Quote
png9mon Posted October 29 Report Posted October 29 Defense, Defense, Defense. In this game 1 or 2 stops by either team could very well be the difference between victory & defeat. Both teams will find ways to score, finding ways to stop that scoring will the key to this one. Quote
cal81 Posted October 29 Report Posted October 29 Computers don't know anything. PN-G will win this by double digits, probably more like 34-14. Quote

Give me the Bears by a FG late. Just tagging on to your premise: Montgomery and Lake Creek were tied 15-15, or thereabouts, at the half. Ended up 42-31. PNG led Lake Creek at the half 42-0, with the final score 45-21, with pretty much the entire bench playing the second half. I think LC kicked 2 or 3 on-side-kicks in the 2nd half. The second half was essentially a scrimmage. Vs Huntsville, the final scores were fairly similar, although Montgomery played well for 2 halves, and PNG came alive in the 2nd half, 29-0, after trailing 10-29. The only other common opponents are Splendora and West Fork, and one can slice and dice those scores any way you want. We'd really have something to hang our hat on I think if Montgomery would have played LaPorte in a pre-district game. Or even Klein Oak. Quote
