1953: "There is no proof that cigarette smoking is one of the causes of lung cancer."

1964: "We don't accept the idea that there are harmful agents in tobacco"

So here is my take - I have no hatred for anyone that exceeds the love for my child.  If Tylenol MIGHT cause autism in an unborn child, even a .0000001% chance, I would not take Tylenol unless absolutely necessary. I know the mother of my child would agree, as she changed her diet, got off all unnecessary meds and would not even have a glass of wine with a meal.

So it blows me away this is news.....it is a recommendation and true or not, SOMETHING is causing the rise of autism......

WHY TAKE THE RISK

But the hype is stating that Tylenol causes Autism. That simply isn't the case.

How do I know this? Because my wife never took Tylenol while pregnant yet my youngest son has Autism.

The rise in Autism is because now we are able to diagnose it much better and sooner than we have ever have. Back in the day, folks didn't know what it was and simply misdiagnosed.

My son was diagnosed as a 2 year old. We were first alerted by a school developmental specialist based on his behavior and skill set. She recommended us to a developmental psychologist and through some testing was then diagnosed.

I just think this is being blown out of proportion and Trump needs to be able to point a finger. There are several drugs that women shouldn't take while pregnant. This just seems like a witch hunt.

If we are going to reach for causes of Autism, then the first thing to look at is the amounts of mercury in vaccinations. I believe there is more substance to that claim than Tylenol.

My wife and I never really got into the "what caused this" thing. Yes we asked questions but that was just briefly. After coming to grips with the diagnose (and that took some time) we then went into how do we manage this and what can we do to help our son. Took a lot of growing pains, some setbacks and personal struggles. But in the end, we believe we did the best we could and our son is striving as a 30 year old adult with Autism.

Best thing we were ever told when we were dealing with all this was something a friend said to us at a grocery store. We were talking to her about our son and how we were struggling with all that comes with Autism. She said to us and I quote. "You guys will do just fine. God chose you two to be Reid's parents. He knows that you guys are the perfect parents for him. It is not a curse, it's a blessing to be his parents." That stuck with us till this day.

IMO, there is no real root cause to Autism.

Blessings are where we look for them. I definitely understand the challenges. I also understand the simple joys. I’ve always thought that things don’t happen TO us. They happen FOR us.

You sound like a good man. A blessing indeed.

Let's just say I have mellowed in my old age and having grandkids brings so much joy in my life. Life is good.

I agree but disagree due to the first quote as well as some other factors related to diet.

been working with autism students for 20 years.

due to advances we have been able to diagnose this a lil more accurately but in the same breath the numbers have also increased due to factors mentioned.

what we put in our body does matter for short term and long term (generations).

My grandson has been diagnosed with Autism. He just turned 3. My DIL took Tylenol during pregnancy for her migraines. I don’t think that is what’s responsible. Tylenol is a brand name and Trump shouldn’t use that term. Acetaminophen is the active ingredient. Had an old girlfriend who was allergic to it. She would break out in hives. There are other remedies that use Acetaminophen for pain.
Like Aggie said, I will adjust. Humans are good at adapting. I wouldn’t trade Leo for anything in the world.

I just heard on the radio that drug companies did say that their studies raised questions that there could be a link caused by taking acetaminophen during pregnancy.  This was around 2018-2020.   But as soon as Trump says, they go to backtracking.  So, do we know for sure there is no link?   Could be, I don’t know.

Tylenol put out a warning in 2017 stating they did not recommend taking any of their products during pregnancy, consult with your Doctor.

The trend on X and TIKTOK of pregnant women videoing themselves taking Tylenol in protest really shows how dumb some folks are. I guess we have always had dumb people, social media just highlights them.

*Acetaminophen bottle currently recommend that adults take no more than 4,000 milligrams a day, or eight extra-strength pills. Just a doubling of the maximum daily dose can be enough to kill, warns Dr. Anne Larson of the University of Washington.

450-500 acetaminophen overdose deaths per year - half being intentional

Autism was named as a diagnosis in 1911. Tylenol was invented in 1950, so Trump is wrong. I took Tylenol during both of my pregnancies and my kids are fine.

Research before you post things you read on social media. As a nurse, I would expect better.

Example - People get lung cancer and don't smoke...... so smoking must be ok and don't cause lung cancer...... "My Mom smoked all her life and never got lung cancer"

Example - People have liver failure and don't drink - so drinking must not cause liver failure.

Wth does that have to do with anything? How could Tylenol be the cause of Autism if it wasn't manufactured until the 50's? The disorder existed before then.

How could smoking be a cause for lung cancer since people get lung cancer who don't smoke?

You are not answering my question. When autism was dx for the first time in 1911, what was the cause?

Who knows? Cancer was around long before we discovered that some tings cause cancer,

Your hatred for Trump really shows. Trump did not come up with this Tylenol theory, there is research and Doctors that support it.

Again I ask - they are not outlawing it, they are suggesting you don't take it while pregnant.....so, just incase it is true, wouldn't you want to be warned?

Some acid reflux meds are linked to increase in dementia.... I'm not taking them JUST. IN. CASE.  i guess if Trump announces it, we will have you and social media taking videos of you ingesting them?

I agree, pregnant people taking Tylenol in protest makes ZERO sense.

Warning people that something MAY not be healthy to take during pregnancy, so don't unless absolutely necessary?  That makes sense....

Again how can Tylenol be the  cause of Autism if it wasn't around when Autism was initially diagnosed? That doesn't make any sense.

Trump wasn’t the first to say this, the makers of Tylenol were.  You so bad want to make Trump a villain, when in fact, you make yourself look like a fool.  Like hippie said, ppl get lung cancer without smoking, so every kid with Autism isn’t caused by Tylenol.  Hope you comprehend doctor’s orders better than you comprehend posts on this website!

The oldest known instance of cancer was an osteosarcoma found in the fossil of a 1.7 million-year-old toe bone. By your logic chemical plant emissions and asbestos must not cause cancer because they weren't around when cancer was discovered. The point being that your point is not a good one.
