From your article

"The homicide rate in the nation’s capital was the fourth highest among 24 U.S. cities in 2024,

This is the hidden content, please
by the Center for Public Safety Initiatives at Rochester Institute of Technology that relied on local news reports and individual agency data. The three cities with higher rates than Washington were St. Louis, New Orleans and Detroit."

So while crime may have come down, it is still 4th highest......Is that really something to be proud of for our nations capitol?

So why isn't the President threatening to send the National Guard to St. Louis, New Orleans and Detroit?

Is it just because the White House resides in DC?

Just curious

There are rumors to that effect (NY Times), but nothing concrete.

Did you hear his reference about a dirty front door? He said his Father told him that if he went to a restaurant that had a dirty door, not to eat there, because if the front door is dirty so is the kitchen. He feels that the capitol of the US needs to be an example of the rest of the country.

He may be going about it wrong, or he may not, but I find it hard to disagree with making a city safer.

My question would be……if arrests are carried out by the guard, will they be in the same catch and release system of DC? Seems futile to even have police, but then again, it’s what the dems want…..no police…..until they themselves are carjacked.

From what I have read, they are in a "supporting" role and won't be doing any arrest. They will be leaving that up to the police.  They did say that would defend themselves if necessary. I would expect someone throwing a rock at them would regret it immediately.

Party of "small government" lol

Quick to call NG every chance they get...

How does having the national guard in a supporting role to support the police in the 4th most violent city effect you?

As far as "small government" - nothing was created or added......

Typical response... Nothing effects you till it does. Then it's crying and more crying.

Google's (the extremely conservative google) AI ranks DC as having the 5th highest homicide rate in the country in 2024. Glad the local officials are doing a tremendous job of keeping the capital city of our country so safe. Yes, leave it to the local government to keep all our federal officials, employees, and community members safe.  You conservatives and your lack of trust in incompetent people just slays me.

Some of us care about other Americans.

So very true.  I do not want to see any of my fellow Americans harmed in any way. And thats the way it should be no matter what side of isle you are on.... but one side does not care until it happens to them.

A political Stunt? Maybe - if so, and the outcome is Washington becoming safer, why is that bad? If it works, they should come to Beaumont and we wouldn't have a 1 in 73 chance of being a victim of a violent crime, versus in Texas it is 1 in 246......See the difference ?

I am all about making cities safer. I just don't think bringing in the Guard is necessary.

It’s not. DC has more law enforcement per capita than any other metropolitan area in America.

I’ll say it again. The issue is catch and release, cashless bail, and the juvenile system. Some of these kids are being recruited because it’s known they won’t be prosecuted.

DC is a carve out. It’s all Federal land, under Federal jurisdiction. No issues—personally—with Feds taking over Met Police for their 30 day limit. No issue with replacing current leadership staff & reorganizing. But, my goodness, they have a police force of over 3,000 for a population of around 650,000. That’s strictly the Met police. Doesn’t count Park Police, FBI, DEA, Secret Service, and other assorted alphabets.

The issue isn’t numbers. The issue is the soft on crime stance. The Feds can actually modify sentencing guidelines in the DC jurisdiction. It’s within their authority.

Sounds to me like they need to put more emphasis on a gang task force like Houston had to do in the East Houston/North Shore area—which was known as the hub for the Cripps & Bloods, who then started working together with MS-13 and other foreign groups. It’s still the hot spot in Texas. But, they’ve cleaned it up a lot.

Pentagon planning ‘quick reaction force’ for civil disturbances: Report

Internal Pentagon documents reviewed by the Post lay out the parameters for a “Domestic Civil Disturbance Quick Reaction Force,” calling for hundreds of guard members outfitted with weapons and riot gear to be on constant standby and deployable in as little as one hour.
