2019 FOOTBALL TEAM PREVIEWS

TARKINGTON LONGHORNS

2018 Record: 2-8 Overall, 0-4 District

5th Place in District 9-4A-II

The 2018 season was a rough one for the Tarkington Longhorns as they failed to gain a district win and finished out of the playoff picture.  However, Tarkington fans are counting on a change and that change has come in the form of former Port Arthur Memorial offensive coordinator Zach Bass.  Bass does have a experienced nucleus to build from as eight starters on each side of the ball return for the 2019 season in an effort to launch the Longhorns back into the Class 4A, Division II playoff picture.

Head Coach: Zach Bass

Assistant Coaches: Roy Gatlin, Matt Calvert, Joe Maines, Ken McCarther, Wade Taylor, Mark Davidson, Dillion Croley, Bryce Morgan

Offense:

Eight starters return to the Tarkington offense in 2019, but that offense will definitely have a new look.  The triggerman for the 2 back spread offense will be junior quarterback Trae Deck (2nd team all-district in 2019).  Among those in the backfield with Deck will be junior Bradley Sanders (2nd team all-district).  Comprising the Longhorn receiver attack will be senior wide receivers Christian Howard (1st team all-district) and speedy receiver Cole McLawchlin, who happens to be getting several looks from power 5 schools, as well as senior tight end Camryn Hahn  (2nd team all-district), junior receiver Nate Carley and sophomore tight end Kevin McCarther.  Senior linemen Micah Hare (2nd team all-district) and Nathan Greak (2nd team all-district) will lead an offensive line which will also feature junior Blake James and sophomores Abraham Cruz and Gavin Edwards.

Defense:

Eight starters return to the Longhorn 3-4 defense in 2019.  Returning starters, junior Travonte Bogany and senior Garrett Hlavetty (2019 defensive utility all-district), will be joined on the defensive line by seniors Alex Odell and Jace Pickett.  Austin Denton, who lost his junior year to a horrific leg injury, returns to the all senior Tarkington linebacker corp which will also include Greak as well as seniors Ryan Hannah and Conner Clifton.  Howard (2nd team all-district), senior defensive backs Joey Wells and Alex Armstrong and junior defensive back Rakan Devito will be joined in the Tarkington secondary by junior Andrew King and sophomores Riley Johnson and Dawson Snead.

Special Teams:

The multi-talented McClawchlin will not only take care of both the place kicking and punting duties, he will also be one the primary kick returners along with Howard.

    • He's steadily improving rapidly. Not that your opinion matters much based on some of the wild projections you've made on this site
    • Cohen……a lying, backstabbing pos who does nothing but lie every time he opens his mouth. Let him utter words the prosecution wants to hear, and we can convict. Cohen told his ex advisor that he wanted to kill himself. What a worldly loss that would be. Let anyone on this board be put through the wringer with false charges and lies like Trump has had to endure, and you would be screaming at the top of your lungs how illegal all of this is.
    • It was and remains perfectly timed and choregraphed Kangaroo Court, whatever Cohen just said or lied about.  Face it, under Soros installed Biden and Merrick Garland, the USA is now officially a Bananna Republic with a Goverment that weaponizes itself against and destroys its political rivals. Putin and Xi are SO proud!  Dang I miss Democracy.
    • I haven’t been watching closely, but even the liberal sources even tell the story as “the defense really took apart Cohen’s testimony on Thursday.” It sounds like sloppy work from the prosecution to point out a specific call as being “the one,” when it was easily concluded that this particular call could not have occurred the way that Cohen (and the prosecution) claim it to have happened.    The bad news is that I doubt that it matters much-I suspect that most jurors minds were closed before testimony started.   I don’t see Trump leaving with anything less than a conviction based on the venue (NYC).
    • Tough case all the way around.  The guy had a lot of online activity come out where he made racist statements and statements about killing BLM protesters and looters.  So when he then goes out and does it, it looks really bad.  I've seen a lot of videos where people have driven through protestors, defended themselves against them, etc., and didn't bat an eye.  This feels different, but that doesn't necessarily make it murder, either.  His account of the events that happened vs. the witness accounts were both very different, but I'd also expect both sides' accounts to be self-serving and inaccurate to fit their narrative.  Not really sure what to think on this one.
