i should have added that the team remained in the gym a decent amount of time to let the parking lot clear but I guess someone is going to have to start checking before letting the team exit the gym.

IMO, Jasper is responsible for the security in the parking lot. You notice that no one in admin is commenting on the incident. Lawyers are involved and they know they dropped the ball

As a reporter, these are the type of stories that are the hardest to get sometimes. It is still news and good job David for getting it out there because there are a lot of people who probably didn't know this happened — including me until yesterday.

I was kinda wondering why it hadn't made the news, but that makes perfect sense. That's the professional way to do things, unlike the so called the internet "journalists" out there that are more worried about being first instead of being right. Kudos

May mot have been a kid from what I have heard, did not actually see this, but one of them was supposed to be a parent or someone of that age.  One thin I hope players learn from this, once you are leaving a game don't get in these verbal wars,. You never know what those you are talking too are capable of or could be carrying.

If it was an adult, no wonder the kids act like they do.

People take this stuff too serious.  It is only sports, HS sports at that.  Even if the team wins a championship the only thing you get out of it is a plastic trophy, something to post on a message board, & perhaps the opportunity to make a baby that was or wasn't there previously, lol.

Definitely not worth 'going in your pockets' for.  With that in mind it is fortunate that this didn't turn out worse than it did.

I walked out of the gym shortly after the team. School officials and Jasper police refused to make any statements following the incident. Sillsbee had one officer on duty. Jasper had an off duty Kirbyville officer working. We now have a lot more information than we did when we published The Bee last week. We will have that information in the paper next Wednesday.

Jasper has had major issues for a while. Police too scared to do anything up there due to previous issues. Jasper running wild. Area HS need to attempt to bring atleast one officer with them on out of town games. It's a shame it's came to having security, but that's todays world folks.

There was an officer with the team he had to escort Coach Sigler to the buses that were parked way too far away. The whole ideal was to not have the kids walk through the parking lot to the bus but bring the buses to the players, because of the people in the parking lot.  They tried to park around back and come through a different door in the beginning but Jasper ISD officials made them go to the front main entrance. The players were left with the one and only officer jasper hired for the game. While escorting the coach is when the players were jumped from behind with the Jasper security officer in the front. There were just too many people and not enough police. Everybody that could was trying to help but it got out of control too quick.

The lighting in that picnic table area was also very bad. I could barely see when I was walking out. I had just gotten to my car with my daughter, my 80 year old mother and my 5 month old grandson when the fight broke out.  We had two coaches, our principal and our officer walking our boys out of the gym.  Our other coach had gone to get the bus. Thankfully, we also had some fans (like ST413) who were able to help as well.  We all did our best to get our kids out of harms way and into the buses as quickly as possible.  When we thought it had died down, a large group of people rushed the buses and the whole thing started up again.  It was very scary.  The two Jasper administrators that were at the game did their best to control their students.
