Bill Dauterive
7 on 7 today at Baytown Sterling, Sterling went through their bracket undefeated, beating P.A. Memorial, Aldine McArthur, and Baytown Lee. They played LaPorte, who also went undefeated in their bracket, in the championship. LaPorte won the championship game 27-22. Both teams looked pretty good. ThirdDay
ThirdDay
7 on 7 is fun competition but success doesn't always translate to wins during the season. It is great for the RSS program to experience some success to go along with the very positive changes being made by Gareri and his staff. This will help motivate them during the offseason. 7 on 7 can also be misleading. A defensive player dives to barely touch a players back at the 1 yard line would be a TD during the season. Instead the team gets the ball at the 1 yard line and has a limited field to work with resulting in turning the ball over on downs and no score. What 7 on 7 will do for you is help in identifying which receivers are going to run solid routes and fight for a ball in the air. If they won't fight for it now where full contact is not allowed, you can bet they are not going to fight for it under the Friday night lights. It also helps identify which QB's can think, make good reads and deliver the ball on time without having to worry about pressure. If they can't in 7 on 7, they won't under the lights. PAM secondary looks good. PAM offense will be fine once the season starts as we all know the coverage will loosen up when you have a running threat at QB. Both GCM and Lee have plus QB's. Lee receivers had drops and difficulty getting separation. Crosby has some work to do offensively with the loss of their seniors. Aldine MacArthur was way over matched. RSS receivers had too many drops. LaPorte offensive skill positions are a plus for this team. Both QB's were strong and released quickly. Receivers got separation and displayed the best hands of all the teams in the tournament. Hard to judge LaPorte's D. RSS played them very close but it may be a different story if it was full contact. Ranking the teams in the tournament from District 21-6A Offense - LP, RSS, PAM Defense - PAM, LP, RSS GCM, Crosby, LEE, MacArthur would probably go in that order. Peppermint Patty
Who is going to QB RSS? The younger Moyers.
ThirdDay
RSS had 3 LP had 2, both solid, although the one who started the game was definitely better than the other. I think PAM had 2 and both looked ok throwing the ball. Running threat is what is going to help loosen the D. MacArthur had 2 and neither looked like they could start on any of the other teams. GCM and LEE QB's were impressive and are running threats.

ThirdDay
Per today's Baytown Sun, the older Moyers signed to play football and run track for NAIA Dordt College in Souix Center, Iowa.
klprice
The younger Moyers. NEGATIVE!!
gary-us-bonds
Lee has an outstanding quarterback. Not much else now after this graduating class. Coach had wasted a lot of speed and skill talent the last four years. We will see what the new coach can do. Doesn't have as much spotted to work with. klprice
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Isojj5Ur4o4 LaPorte and Baytown Lee 7 on 7 from youtube I'm pretty sure that the kid playing QB in this video is going to be a soph in '14 season. Very big and strong. Rumor is he squats multiple reps over 400 lbs. '13 season starting QB is the kid playing RB with the leggings on. If they could find some blocking they will have a heck of a running game. Unfortunately for them I don't think they will have that blocking. Anyway, impressive athletes
gary-us-bonds
Is that a permanent switch in quarterbacks or just something they are doing to get them all reps in 7 on
gary-us-bonds
Hudl has irving listed as a rb and eaglin as a qb. Must be a new direction they are going in. Irving was certainly more of a runner than a passer.
klprice
I'm not sure, just noticed it in the video. I guess we will find out in a few weeks.
