Colmesneil/Woodville Scrimmage

Recommended Posts

Woodville looked good on the mound in this scrimmage. I don't think Colmesneil scored once. Granted, they were missing eight starters to basketball. I don't think this was a testament as to how Colmesneil will be during the season.

On the mound, Woodville looked much improved. They threw four lefties in seven innings. All of which surprised me with their consistent velocity and overall control. All stayed within 75-85 but were all spot-on when it came to controlling the strike zone and keeping the ball low. Colmesneil didn't have any of their top pitchers so of course it was a difficult night on the mound for them.

At the plate, it was hard to tell if the Eagles have improved as a whole, because they didn't face much talent on the mound. But I saw a lot of improvement from the younger guys that I was pleased with. Colmesneil looked very inexperienced in the box, probably due to the basketball players not being there. But they showed some bright spots as well.

In the field, both teams had some misques, but overall seemed to make the plays they needed to.

Woodville seems to have more speed this year in the field and on the base path than they've had in years. It was great to see. And the freshman looked pretty good last night as well. He crushed one to right center that missed being a home run by about ten feet. But I believe with most of Colmesneil's starters not being present, this didn't present a good test for the Eagles. Garrison should be a much better test on Monday night.

Woodville has 3 lefties who threw and all of them were under 80 mph.
