1. Nederland beat Lumberton 4-1 in their scrimmage. For girls, LCM beat Silsbee 8-0. I don't think any games start until next week
 2. Lcm boys scrimmaged at bridge city.  JV boys beat bc 6-0.                                                                                                                      Varsity won 4-1.  Game was broken into 4 20minute quarters.  Lcm scored 2 in second and 2 in third.  Bc scored at end of game.
 3. Can anyone comment about this district besides some silsbee players goofing off?
 4. So why can't the UIL move soccer back a month so that it wouldn't conflict with basketball and the weather for most of the season would be much more endurable?  If you started practice in January and games in Febuary, you would only have to deal with baseball, which virtually no soccer players play and draws considerably less students than basketball games, thereby increasing soccer attendance.  Plus, athletes would be able to play both basketball and soccer, and would only miss preseason and a little bit of nondistict soccer, barring a deep playoff run.
 5.
Strake Jesuit plays in UIL in Houston.  I believe another Jesuit school in Dallas does too.  They can choose to join UIL.
But they have to be 5A.  Schools like Kelly, Legacy, and certainly Orange Community Christian wouldn't even be competitive in most sports at that level.

 7. I posted this in the football forum, and received a pretty resounding no from them.  I was curious to see if opinions would be different in the soccer forum... I understand that private schools have their own league since they can recruit players.  But its not like this is a huge advantage for them.  Let's take Kelly-the most notable private school in the area.  In football and basketball, in the district with WOS, Silsbee, HJ, BC, OF, and HF, they would be pretty average.  In baseball, they would be a little better.  They obviously don't have a distinct advantage. In fact, being part of the UIL would give them a big boost, because it would greatly increase their notoriety.  They would be able to play district teams that are MUCH closer to them, and attendance would probably receive a huge boost.  Plus, if Texas does go to 6 classifications, it would help make sure that the classifications didn't get watered down.  They already do it in Louisiana and in a couple other states that I am aware of. So there's my opinion.  Thoughts?
 8.
Im sure they would play better in a new $15,000,000 arena ::)
But how would Superintendent Carroll A. Butch Thomas find a way to name it after himself?  : )
 9.
Play for the love of the game not the fans in the stands!
Thats a novel concept, but its not realistic.  While some players do play for the love of the game, there is obviously not enough doing so to be competitive on the state level in soccer. To sharkfutbol: woud you then suggest moving game days so as to not be competing with basketball?
 10.
To site Louisiana as an example as they are allegations of buying championships is rampant there.  West Monroe and Acadiana, unfortunately are not Louisiana's best teams.  They may be among them but the best teams in Louisiana, but the best team in Louisiana is John Curtis, a private school that because of it's population gets to play in the 2A ranks.  They are allowed to recruit and can draw folks away from the public schools. I am vehemently opposed to the UIL allowing private schools into it's membership.  If it does occur, it must happen in the same fashion as Dallas Jesuit and Houston Strake Jesuit were admitted...that is if they come in, they play in the highest classification. Now, finally as to your charge that WO-S is recruiting.  It rings of sour grapes from North of I-10 as there is a school in Orange County that has been able to boost its football team because of open enrollment.....the Little Cypress-Mauriceville Bears.
I can point you out a plethora of examples, and where they lived.  And you know that the players who go to LCM that lived outside of enrollment did so because of being back-ups, or in trouble, in the coaches' doghouse, etc. live in WOS.  As far as open enrollment, that won't even start at LCM until 2nd semester. I'm not being bitter towards WOS I am pointing out a fact. About Louisiana, John Curtis did not even when the 2A state championship this year, and I would definately argue that West Monroe could beat John Curtis more years than not.  And Acadiana is as high as 10th in some national polls.  Not better most years, but I was talking about this year.
 11.

I don't think anyone that would disagree that the quality of education is typically better in private schools than in public.
That is a MAJOR misconception. Private schools don't have to adhere to the same guidelines that public schools do.  Private schools can hire joe-blow the sacker at Market basket to teach Algebra if they want to. Now with that being said there are some very elite private schools but by and large the publics out do the privates in the area of quality of education.
At Beaumont Legacy, they use Rosetta Stone for foreign languages.  They also have one of the highest rates of students going on to four-year universities, and they are not really even an elite private school.  Just because that private schools can hire Joe Blow doesn't mean that they do.
 12. This is the first soccer post of the year.  This being in a forum for both boys and girls, in a sport that starts playing in two days.  This is super depressing.  Is there a more dominant forum outside of this site that all of you go to?  I hope so. Of course, soccer games in this area draw attendances equivalent to Quiz Bowl competitions, so I shouldn't be surprised. Really, I think the fact that no non-players care about soccer in this area has a lot to do with why this area gets destroyed year-in year-out to once we hit Houston teams in the playoffs.  There is no support for the soccer team in the community.  It creates a totally different mindset than even baseball/softball.  Kids are much more likely to work hard when people care about how they do.  To use LCM as an example, a substantial minority of their players don't really give a dang about soccer, but are able to get away with it because there is no one there to replace them.  While this probably is not the case at a Nederland-caliber school, I am sure most of the programs in this area have this problem.  Yet if the soccer programs were supported, these kids would be more motivated to compete. Let's take LCM, for example.  The number of students at LCM boys games (not including players) probably rarely exceeds 20.  Then go to a basketball game - you are easily talking 100+ students, excluding cheerleaders and dance team girls. So I guess I am also expessing frustration with schools for failing to support the soccer teams.  Consider coaches - how many coaches do you see that aren't even coaches, but teachers who are coaching just because no one else is?  Particularly with JV, it is rare to see a coach who actually knows what they are doing.  This hurts the development of the players when in their young high school years they are without legitimate coaching.  And I am not talking about wide scale - why the US struggles to compete with top level competition internationally - but just on the local level. And you could make the argument that this stems from the media.  Why can't local newspapers AT LEAST provide a box score of games, I am not even saying that they need someone to go and recap the games.  I mean - every single basketball game that any local team plays gets at least that.  I, for one, only recently jumped onto the soccer bandwagon.  It was not because I didn't want to go to games, it is because it never crossed my mind to go.   There is way more irrelevant crap in newspapers than high school soccer.  Oh, but I digress... In conclusion, I only want soccer to be treated like an actual sport in this area, and I am sure anyone who is reading this will agree.  Its just time that everyone else starts to feel this way. Ironically, I go on this ranting rampage about lack of support for soccer locally only to post on a forum that no one gets on...sigh
 13. Don't forget that English got Vidor to being co-district champs with Ozen in the early 2000s.  Outside of Ozen, the only two district champs the whole last decade were coached by Coach English.  And regarding building his program, I saw Nederland CO Wilson play Mauriceville Middle School (7th grade A).  They totally destroyed MMS about 75-20, and this is an MMS team that was undefeated, already having beaten Little Cypress and Vidor by 20+.
 14.
I can only comment on what I have seen, so far it is LCM at home, but hudson seems to have a large student section and they traveled over an hour to get there.
LCM has a really good student section, but the Hardin Jefferson game is a really big one at LCM, ever since that big post-game fight broke out in the parking lot a couple years ago.  So if you just saw the LCM-Hardin Jefferson game, you wouldn't really have an accurate view of the student section. That being said, the "bearcavecrazies" are still a pretty loud and well-organized group.
 15.
Well lets say i am a great HS football player at Central, and i have a real good friend at West Brooke that is a great player and we have some other buddies that are really good at Ozen why wouldnt we want to move to kelly and play for a state championship Together?
To use Louisiana as a reference (b/c I don't know much about non-Texas high school football outside of LA) the two best teams in the state, two nationally ranked teams - West Monroe and Acadiana - are both public schools.  Its not like public schools can't compete. And to look at this from the private school standpoint, they are being deprived of the advantages that these big-time sports programs have to offer.
 16.

It would ruin Texas HS Football.  The Privates would dominate and interest from loyal public HS football fans would wane. The reason that Kelly is not dominant in this area now is because they don't get to play in the UIL playoffs which is the pinnacle of TX HS FB. Thus they are not able to recruit as well like they do in LA, Ohio, Fla, NJ, Cali and others. If you were a top FB player at say WOS or WB, would you rather play in the under publicized private school state title or possibly play in the UIL playoffs? Easy answer, but if Kelly were allowed to play for the same UIL title, then the best area talent would love to play together making the odds of playing for that UIL title much greater. Imagine if the top talent from WOS left for Kelly. What would that do to WOS football and it's fans?
Good post I agree ;D
8 of the 20 semifinalists in the Louisiana playoffs were private schools, and there is much more tradition in public schools in Texas than in private.  What makes you think that the best players at, say a central, would want to leave the school system they grew up in, for the team they probably grew up rooting for, to go to Kelly?  And how many players would Dan Hooks lose to a school all the way in Beaumont? And besides, being an open enrollment school district, WOS gets to do that anyway (see: Earl Thomas, James Haynes).
 17. 18. I am really interested to see how this affects attendance levels for Community Christian.  Not just for aspiring football players, but just b/c of all the increased attention they will receive due to the new team. Also, where will they play home games?
 19. LCM Boys scrimmage at Bridge City on the 4th (Varsity at 7) Not that anyone cares, this being the soccer forum.   : (
 20. You have a couple of typos on the records... LCM has lost 4 games (I think) and Vidor has lost 1
 21. I wouldn't be to excited if I was a Vidor fan.  Nederland has been very inconsistent this year and, from listening to the broadcast, definately sounded less into it emotionally than Vidor.  I will reserve judgement until 2 or 3 more district games.

 24. So at 4-0, could LCM lose to Cayuga and play in the championship game?
