Where did you find that info?
You would think you would want to tell people that info. They talk about his degree but nothing about being a OC.
Nederland, Tx — – Nederland ISD is proud to announce the new Athletic Director and Football Head Coach. After an interview process including several qualified candidates, Scott Rich was selected as the new Athletic Director and Football Head Coach. Rich has served at Katy High School in Katy ISD for 8 years as the Assistant Football Coach over quarterbacks. He holds a degree from The University of North Texas.
Isn't it obvious Katy is one of the most successful football schools in the state...Fort Bend Travis not so much its all about name recognition...As for where I found my info... the Houston Chronicle archives

So Nederlands top 3 guys have never been a coordinator or head coach
Let on the job training begin......
Coach Rich was the offensive coordinator at Fort Bend Travis for years he was also calling plays alongside Jeryl Brixey (offensive coordinator at Katy) so you can't say the top 3 haven't been a coordinator that's false

Playing after Thanksgiving?
Is he going to coach Basketball also?
So who do YOU think Nederland can beat in district?
Hey he could he used to coach basketball😄...we're taking one game at a time we have a chance to beat any team we play

Looks like Rich knows how politic according to you but what happens when he goes 2-5 or 1-6 in district this year and the next?
Who does Nederland think they are going to beat besides Splendora or West fork?
It's not politicking it's actual results between him and Barrow it's like night and day...as far as who Nederland will or won't beat Coach Rich expects to play after Thanksgiving time will tell

First of all, allowing 4 teams go to the playoffs, the playoffs aren't the badge of honor it once was. He made the playoffs this year because his bad team beat the other bad teams. Then got smoked in the first round.
The first couple of years, he was operating off what Neumann had instilled. Just like Barry Switzer was operating off what Jimmy Johnson instilled and won a Super Bowl. But it got ugly once Jimmy's influence wore off. After Neumann's influence wore off, it was all his and it all went south. Like I said, gloriously. Towards the end, they were badly coached. I don't think that's debatable!
I can't even debate that those last 3 years were terrible...IMO 2020 is the only year you can't give credit to Neumann for

For the past 7 years Nederland had as their HC a former OC. He was a glorious failure. So...
That's a little harsh...Barrow had a winning record and made the playoffs 5 out of those 7 years including a trip to the 3rd round in 2020 it was the last 3 years that did him in...On a different note I like everything Coach Rich has done up to this point and I'm not the only one who thinks that

Yes but all those guys had OC/DC experience before being hired as a AD/HF
It is a big jump from a positions coach to a 5A AD/HF at a school like Nederland.
I guess he has 7 years to figure it out.............
But it's a position coach at one of the top 6A schools in Texas I think Coach Rich will be fine he's already made changes at Nederland that was much needed

Pretty sure they’ve met in the playoffs
Nederland has only played Huntsville twice...both were district games in 1960 played to a 0 all tie and then beat Huntsville 35-0 in 1961

If Rich wasn't Katy's OC, does anyone know who is?
Jeryl Brixey...Coach Rich typically ran the red zone offense...Coach Rich was the offensive coordinator at Fort Bend Travis before he was at A&M Consolidated

Played for Dodge…? Naw. Knowing Dodge, helping out at his camps, and few things common with him. Yeah, sure. I’ll give him that.
Coach Rich was at North Texas when Dodge was the QB Coach

I know PN-G is a football school first and foremost, but we really are blessed with an embarrassment of athletic riches at PN-G. The baseball program has made four state championship appearances and won it once; three of those appearances and the victory have all occurred in the last 25 years. The softball team has made two state championship appearances, both in the last 25 years. The volleyball team is 3-0 in state championship games. For most of the last fifteen years, both the boys' and girls' soccer programs have been major regional powers, making regional final appearances several times. If I recall correctly, there was one season where both teams made it to the regional final. We've fielded two or three state champions in various track activities plus a few dozen more state track meet qualifiers, and are always competitive in powerlifting. We used to be a real power in tennis. Sports-wise, basketball is really the only area where PN-G has consistently underperformed.
Add in all the academic accolades - the years of blue ribbon designations, thirteen straight district titles in UIL academics and several consecutive years of dozens of kids advancing to regionals, a handful to state and one kid winning a gold medal in creative writing at the state UIL meet. For several years, PN-G offered more dual credit hours than any other local high school, Kelly included. And then there's the performing arts. The band has made, what, four trips to the state marching competition? Straight ones all but maybe three or four seasons since the UIL started holding regional marching competitions 50+ years ago? Not to mention the hundreds of PN-G students who've achieved all-region and all-state honors in band and choir, and a very competitive theater program.
Football is king at PN-G, but there are many, many more reasons to be proud to be an Indian.
PN-G is 3-1 they lost in 1980 to Spring

The Bulldog basketball team appears to doing what the PAM football team did at the end of the season and that is fold the tent. The Bulldogs better get it together A couple of losses this week and they may be sitting at the house along with PNG
Off topic but people act like the sky is falling with the basketball program yet they'll still be 3rd in district once the dust settles

Let's look back before Neumann got there. Nederland was really bad. No buy in from players or community. Then for 19 years, had buy in from players and community. After Neumann, the program went down the toilet. So, this is the reason we are talking about player and community buy in now. What was the common denominator? The Coach!! You can't put the cart before the horse! Get the right coach, start winning, then the buy in will happen. At Nederland this has already been proven!
Going to be a tall task to win in this district but Coach Rich will get the players out that's for sure

Coach Rich is in his 50s one of the state's top passers at Cedar Hill in 88 and 89 his dad passed away but was the basketball coach at Cedar Hill for a number of years

Scott Rich seems to be the consensus rumored pick. Little that can be found about him online seems to be what was stated as Katy’s QB coach for last few seasons at least. And seems to be involved in Student Leadership activities and FCA. Sounds like a class act individual.
if this is the selection will be interesting to see what aspects he brings from Katy program (hopefully structure, discipline, fundamentals, etc). Offensively Katy usually has a run oriented approach with pro sets, i formation, single back, etc and under center. More balanced approach than typical spread. Would be interesting. Would be better if he brought along Katy’s giant OL 🤣 Although, if you haven’t seen the size of some of the middle school linemen coming up in Nederland, would be good to check out some Central middle school games next year. Let’s see if we can keep them on the field in high school.
Will be interesting day/evening with announcements. Im sure the lookouts are searching the city to see if the new coach has arrived already and touring around. 🤣 Coach Watch 2024 is on!
We had far better candidates this go around than in 2017...ill say this the days of undisciplined Nederland Bulldog football are about to be over...Coach Scott was the guy responsible for the red zone game planning for Katy when it comes to Xs and Os really smart guy...you talked about his family his dad was really well liked and was on the 1st Buna Cougar basketball state championship team

School district boundaries don’t follow city limits. NISD has all of Nederland plus healthy portions of Port Neches and Port Arthur and all of Central Gardens and Beauxart Gardens. PN-GISD loses roughly a quarter of Port Neches to NISD and a fifth of Groves to PAISD, though it picks up two neighborhoods in Port Arthur.
It’s more like both districts have a town and a half; the number of residents and households the two districts have is almost always roughly even. When I was in school (PN-G c/o 2011), Nederland had about a hundred more students than PN-G.
The fact that PN-G is ~15% larger than Nederland now is significant. That’s the largest enrollment disparity between the two schools in at least 30 years, maybe longer. What you’re seeing is PN-GISD’s aggressive approach to replacing schools since 2008 paying dividends. Young families took notice.
And when we finally passed a bond we built a new high school that is sinking into the ground and according to the rumor and innuendo won't be ready for 2024-2025 school year either

Got some info on this...this was a footwork drill when the injury happened and that this is a pre-existing condition (he injured the elbow before) As if there wasn't drama in Nederland before now the new football coach is taking heat from the baseball people because of it...Coach Rich is trying to change the culture at Nederland it was inevitable that he ruffled a few feathers along the way
