"Semper Paratus" Is is the anthem of the U. S. Coast Guard
Just gave a listen to that on youtube. That is a great fight song for sure. I believe Deer Park also uses it. I just thought of another one. Galveston Ball Ball fight song - AKA theme song from the movie Giant The key points that really sound like their fight song are at 22 seconds and at 45 seconds. My dad always used to sing words to it...not sure if it really was the words that Ball High put in there or what. starting at 22 seconds to about 40 seconds with "we are the greatest, yes we are the greatest, we are the greatest team on earth" always sounded like it fit to me lol It didn't sound quite as great when John Humprhey was slicing us up like swiss cheese in the second round of the 1994 playoffs. -
Toups Graphics FEARLESS PREDICTIONS

Can't say I disagree with you. -
I'll let you know after everyone plays Montgomery.

Chronicle only enters total stats based off what they have listed for each game. If they only list the one receiver who had 8 catches for 120 yards and a td for a certain game, then the other two that had 4 catches for 50 yards will never appear in the season stats. So the total stats are a little worthless for individuals unless they are the leading rusher, receiver or passer in EVERY single game of the season.

best fight song in the area

Paw Power by West Brook always got me fired up...not sure that's their fight song though. Baytown Lee and Baytown Sterling both have fight songs that get me fired up as well. I think it just depends on what you heard most growing up. I've heard Lee play Dixie 5,000 times over the years, so it makes sense it's the one I am tied to most emotionally. Fight, fight, fight Sterling Rangers is another one even though I don't like Sterling much. I heard it so much over the years, it's bound to trigger some emotion. -
Lee has absolutely zero discipline. No doubt. I told my wife at the game Friday that it looked like they were just out for their first day of playing football...ever. I do remember the make up of that 86 team pretty well...as well as can be expected for a 10 year old at the time. Lee no longer has the depth of talent to compete with North Shore and Eisenhower and those guys. Lee should, as you point out, have the talent to compete in 19-4A. Maybe a move to a sophomore qb will turn things around for them one more time.

Dayton vs Elkins video and more
gary-us-bonds replied to PURPLE 4EVER's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Thanks for the video. Looked like a good game. -
If the logic you are using is that Crosby got hammered last year at the beginning on the year then did well at the end, so that must be the case again this year....then I'm not going to buy that...sorry. As far as Lee sneaking in anywhere.... I, nor any of the other 3 Lee fans in existence, have no delusions of grandeur when it comes to the Ganders. I'm ate up with my desire for the Ganders to do well. That clouds my judgment and my ability to make cogent points in this forum. I still think the Ganders have a chance in this district....maybe not as good of a chance as Dayton and Crosby, but a chance nonetheless if things fall right.
-
Lee may struggle in 4A. We won't know until we play some 4A teams. Haven't played any yet. Anything can happen. This isn't 2000-2009. This is 2010. I'd just be interested to see what you are basing your predictions on. If it's past year's performance, then fine.... I'd just be interested where the posters that are calling this a two team race are getting their information. Crosby has not done well at all. I would think getting plastered by Montgomery and PNG would hold more water than anything they may or may not have done last year. Dayton I would guess has the best argument. They worked over WOS, albeit in a scrimmage, and they also played a solid 5A team to a virtual standstill.
-
I remember that too. I was in about 6th grade that season when LM pounded Lee, then Lee came back and played them fairly strong in the playoffs. I did say everyone this side of LT in my post. I know it's not always the case, but it was an old argument I was having back in the spring/early summer with GCMPat. As far as I am concerned, any team in the district, maybe save for NF, has a chance to win district. Barbers Hill nearly beat Dayton last year. Crosby did beat them. Crosby has not looked the same so far this year. Dayton looked strong in scrimmages, but then got beat by a team that is perennially not very good(granted it was a 5A team). BH, GCM and Lee have all looked suspect. I don't blame people for eliminating Lee from the equation already. It must be said that they have been without two of their top three skill position players and two others that would be playing a lot in the defensive backfield these first two games. Do those guys ever come back healthy this year? Who knows? Would those two skill position guys have scored another 50 points on LP? Of course not. LP was simply too good for Lee. Lee would be able to strike a lot more fear into the hearts of defenses once those two guys come back though. Hopefully they will both be back for district. We shall see.

Elkins is an average to above average team. I'll let you decide. You're the one that was there. They will get hammered by a team like Hightower. I was giving Dayton props for staying with Elkins, because I was trying to reiterate my earlier point about 5A being tougher than 4A. An average to above average 5A team like Elkins will give problems to a 4A team like Dayton or Crosby or Montgomery or PNG or anyone this side of LT. The fact that Dayton hung in there shows that Dayton is pretty good, but I don't know if I would want to predict the outcome of the district based on a bunch of teams that have all lost their games.

Angleton @ Dayton predictions!!!!!!!
gary-us-bonds replied to knightrider's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Dayton just needs to work on their fade routes. Angleton's weakness is the deep ball. The side to side passing game will not work that well in my opinion. -
I am sure that Dayton is a good team. I'm just saying that we can't really crown them or Crosby at this point. Neither one of them has won a game yet. I guess we can, because this is all conjecture anyways. I just don't see any evidence to back it up after one of them is 0-1 and the other is 0-2.
-
Gregory-Portland didn't seem to have any trouble with PNG. Montgomery and PNG are good teams. I didn't say otherwise. Getting hammered by good teams does not make one good though. It just means you are not as good as those good teams. Losing to average 5A teams(Elkins) does not really say a whole lot about you either.
-
Look, Dayton lost to a mediocre 5A team. Crosby was hammered by two good 4A teams. Lee lost to a mediocre to poor 5A team and was hammered by a good 5A team. Barbers Hill lost to two mediocre 4A teams. GCM lost to 2 mediocre 4A teams. Galena Park beat two horrible 4A teams. CE King beat a bad 4A team and lost to an average 4A team. NF lost to a private school and then beat probably the worst 4A team in the state. I guess you could say Dayton has the better end of that deal so far in that they at least played toe to toe with a run of the mill 5A team.
-
It was a simple question. No need to read anything into it. None of the teams have shown anything that would lead one to believe they are a shoo-in. If any of you have seen at least 4 of the teams in the district, then I would like to hear what you think, otherwise don't you think it would be kind of difficult for you to compare the teams at this juncture?
-
Aren't Dayton and Crosby also winless?
-
Lee may have trouble winning a game, much less being in the top 4. They are dropping like flies. They started the game with Zellars, Landry and Willie out with injuries. Ford hurt his arm early in the game and was in street clothes for the second half. They now have 4 possible starters out with injuries. It's getting pretty thin over there on the Gander sideline. Once Zellars and Landry come back, I think they should be able to compete a little better.

Again, exactly right about the attendance. I actually sit on the away side, so I can't say too much ;D However, it is getting pretty bad over there. I was telling my wife that when I would go with my parents, we would sit at the 50, right below the press box, and there would be the usual suspects in their usual season ticket spots week after week. I'm not even sure if they sell season tickets any more. There were probably 200 people in the reserved seat section. It used to be THE thing to do on a Friday night in Baytown. I live in Missouri City now, so it's a one hour drive for me to get to Stallworth. That is a lot of driving on a Friday night, and it seems like even longer on the way home from a 50 point whooping. Lee was about in this same spot back when Olin first got there in 1992. They were a bad team. They had maybe 9 seniors. He went 0-10 in his first year, then 5-5, then beat Eisenhower in the playoffs in his 3rd year. The difference being that Olin was a good developer of quarterbacks and had an offensive mind. The rest of the state has since caught up with Olin's passing game, but back then it was something you didn't see a lot. Olin put in sophomore Jermaine Alfred that first year and let him take his lumps. He got a little better that next year, then Lee was rolling by his senior year. We had other options, could have kept Alfred on the sidelines, but what was the point? Olin knew we weren't going to be good anyways that first year or two. Sedberry seems like a nice guy. He seems like someone that the players want to play for, but he just needs to surround himself with coaches that understand football. Zellars is a sophomore. Lee's entire team is composed of mainly sophomores and juniors. Just put him in there and build for the future. We can try to meet up one of these days if you like, but I might not be the most fun person to be around if and when Lee is getting rolled. lol

Lee has a TecmoBowl scheme, for anyone who used to play that game. We have one run and three passes from which to choose. On defense it's even worse. There is no scheme on defense. Just line up the same way every time and hope your man beats the other man and makes a play. That doesn't work so well when your d-line and linebackers average 180 and their offensive line averages 300. You can't just expect to fire off the ball and blow them into the backfield. Have to actually orchestrate a defensive scheme. You are exactly right about being too conservative LP. I kept telling my wife that they are just throwing too many little dump off passes. They scored most of their points last year on the deep ball to Richardson. When they did finally decide to go deep, it was just a half-hearted pass on a 4th down and another half-hearted pass that the safety easily came over and intercepted. It's almost as if they are generally satisfied with using Richardson as a decoy. He ended up with 6 catches for 100 yards and a td. He's really not playing defense any more this year. He's an in-shape 17 year old kid for goodness sake. Feed the kid the ball. I would throw it to him 25 times a game if I was coach. The qb situation reminds me of a few years back when Olin started the season off with Barry Laird at qb. Laird looked the part. He was 6'4" 22o, could run, hum the ball around... Problem was, he just wasn't a qb. We have the same issue now. This kid has been pigeon-holed into playing qb because he has an arm and is tall. He's simply not a qb. Olin figured out his mistake and moved Jeremy Moses into the starting lineup and let Laird play tight end, which ended up getting Laird a scholarship to UH. If Sedberry has an ounce of football sense in him, he has to let Zellars get a crack at it. The qb play is so suspect at this point that the only reason you wouldn't let Zellars get in there is if you were worried how much better he would be and you simply don't want to change qb's for personal pride reasons. Sometimes it's tough to admit as a head coach that you made the wrong decision. (See Gary Kubiak with Orlovsky) Look at what LP has done with their qb situation. Their qb this year is light years better than last year's qb because he is a much better athlete. There is a lot to be said for having an extremely good athlete at qb. And yes 82 5A, LP will be tough to beat this year. They are way better than they were last year, and last year they worked over PAM in the playoffs. The LP defense is still suspect against speedy receivers, but they are pretty tough to run on and they get pressure on the qb.
-
Just made it home. Let me first say that Lee was completely outmanned by the Bulldogs. LP was too big across the front and could have just qb sneaked it every play and scored 40. Lee needs to put Zellars in the game at qb once he is healthy. That's all I will say about that. Lee played scared in this one. The team took on the personality of the coach. Once coach decided to mail it in by punting on the two fourth and shorts(for a net 12 yards on each), the team recognized that he had given up, so they decided to do the same. Lee couldn't stop LP if LP qb sneaked it every single play. That part is certain. However, Lee should have been able to move the ball on LP. They did in certain spurts, but they just don't have the consistency or athleticism they need at the qb position. Once Zellars is healthy, there should at least be a chance given to him to see how well he can perform under the bright lights. The team deserves that at least. The team was without Zellars and Landry tonight, but that wouldn't have helped stop LP. I still think Lee can be a playoff team once those two get healthy and Zellars takes over at qb. If he remains at wr, then they may be on the outside loooking in.
-
If they don't come to grips with the fact thy they need to change qbs then lee is in for a long season. This guy just isn't a qb. Maybe he could play tight end or something with his size but he doesn't have a qb bone in his body. Lee gave up on this game. Punting on 4th and short two different times to change the field position by 12 yards lol. Coach is already got his mind on labor day weekend. LP 23-0
I'm telling you that Memorial is the real deal this year guys. Big and fast.
First sign of turbulence and they fold up shop though in the past. They always have the talent. Let's hope they can come up with the required composure under stressful situations to reach their potential. -

Zellars gonna be healthy and ready to play jabu?
