McCain tore his ACL in practice right before season started. He is rehabbing. If you catch any of AP's games on the tube, you will see McCain on the bench not suited up.

That's the type of explanation I was anticipating. That is unfortunate but I feel quite certain he will work hard and go on to have a very successful college career. He possesses a lot of talent and along with Adams Austin Peay will be a force in their conference moving forward.

  2. This may have been covered at some point already this season...

My question is regarding this duo from Silsbee. It was my understanding that after their completion of high school this tandem was to attend Austin Peay together. I have seen that Adams has fulfilled his commitment and adapted nicely to the college game, but McCain has disappeared completely?? I feel certain that someone on this site would have reliable info as to why this is the case.

You're reading too much into it.

You're not talking about Tomball, the Woodlands, or Sugarland where there are master-planned communities with ample roads, schools, and municipal services pre-planned and available.

This area was all timberland up until a few years ago.  The last numbers that I heard was that they had already sold 70,000 plus unrestricted lots with 90,000 more ready to go.  I understand that much of the property is sold "owner financed" and you can easily make your purchase at a flea market on the side of hwy 59. The new owners are free to move onto their property whenever they get ready.  I've heard from multiple sources that there are a number of people living in tents, RVs, and shacks out there.  The fact that most of them don't speak English is of little concern, except for educators.  It's everything from a lack of school buses and classrooms to not having enough law enforcement to simple traffic controls being inadequate.  Just imagine 65,000 people who don't speak English moving into the woods outside of Orangefield and you get a good sense for what's happening out there in Plum Grove.

This is an article from 2017, and it only details one of the developers that 's working down there.

Regardless of a person's views on immigration or race, there is definitely a difference between good growth and an unplanned population explosion... most of which will add little to no value to the county tax rolls while simultaneously putting an uncontrolled strain on local services.

Thank you....I was trying to generalize these issues.

The report I read a couple of years ago indicated that the district had grown by 1000+ kids in 3 years.

The component that everybody is dancing around is that while there is some growth out around Tarkington, the primary area that's exploding is "La Colonia" out near Plum Grove.  It's the opposite of a masterplanned community (Kingwood, The Woodlands) built out in the woods Southeast of Cleveland.  The marketing has been primarily made to the working class Hispanic Community in the Houston metro area.

A friend of mine works for a utiliity company in the area and they predict 25,000 new electric meters in an subsequent addition the growth that's already occurred. The growth has been phenomenal.... but when you see remarks about "being good at baseball and soccer" they aren't talking about upcoming pitchers... it's a reference to the fact that bulk of the new population is Hispanic.

This is unfortunately, for the district, very accurate except it didn't include the fact that these "developments" are being advertised in many of the third world countries south of the border. That fact is straight from the mouths of incoming students who have made their way to the U.S. from said countries. As a result of this process, the district has experienced the wrong type of growth. Not because of the nationality of the majority of the student body population, but rather due to the shear overwhelming volume of students in such a short time span. The community doesn't really have the economic stability to support such growth, particularly within the schooling system. Hopefully, though good leadership (city & district), a light will be present at the end of the tunnel. Time will tell.

Maybe we could have used Harmon and Thomas a but more but we were out played. Silsbee is the better team but Yates was better yesterday.

Before seeing this game, I would have agreed. After seeing this game, could not disagree more. And the only day that matters is the day you meet your opponent  on the court. If you want to make an argument based on the starting units for each, you probably have a leg to stand on but that doesn't constitute a team. Yates was a better team as a whole and that's coming from a guy who said that Yates had zero chance of defeating Silsbee (Crow is very hard to digest). As an unbiased observer, the two things that stood out against Silsbee were their inability to score from the perimeter consistently and their very poor performance from the foul line. I also think that Coach Sigler got exposed in the game as well. His inability to adjust conceptually and have a plan B when you're getting beat at your own game was a big problem when the momentum began to shift. I would have preferred to see McCain in charge at that time because I think he has the best basketball mind on that bench...including the coaches. That kid has a fantastic basketball IQ. Nevertheless, what the Silsbee program accomplished over the last handful of years was very impressive and quite commendable.

Sutherland is one of the GOATs imo.   But I will say that CS also has a coach who has been around a long time in Devers and he does a really good job as well.

I must say TxHoops that we tend to agree more than not but this will not be one of those times. Sutherland=GOAT...absolutely. Devers=Average at best (imo). If both teams handle their business in the semis, I think the difference in the two coaches will ultimately be the difference in the region 3 championship.

Yes imo.   Better size, not as quick, similar handle, slightly better shooter, finishes above the rim.  Think he’s their QB in football.

Understand I love Ceasar’s game a ton.  Part of it is always looking at how kids will translate at the next level.  Someone tell 3rd some idiot on the internet said CS’s PG was better so he will come ready to give him the business :D

Bishop is legit and I am more impressed every time I see this kid play. He does not play football. Dedicated to the hardwood and it shows. He broke the 30 point barrier tonight as well. I haven’t seen Caesar play but he better be very good if he’s gonna draw comparisons with Bishop. I will be in Waco and certainly hope both teams handle their business in the semis and we get the match up we’ve all been waiting for.

Any Huffman fans on this site?

I've seen this team a few times this and I'm a fan of how they play the game. Solid team with plenty of skill and tons of effort. I have a lot of respect for them but I am not from Huffman. I would love to see them be competitive for a portion of this game, but barring some key injuries or some other freak circumstances, I see no chance what so ever Huffman wins this game.

Explain? U think Yates won't make it

    Yates to regionals??....yes

    Beat Silsbee??.....little to no chance

I don’t care about common opponents and the numbers game. It’s the eye test for me. I’ve seen them both and there’s a measurable gap between the two teams. Silsbee is the better team by a lot...imo

A couple points here i have a little trouble with, one,  i dont think the Tigers played their absolute best in that first half of the second game.  Defensively...maybe so.  Offensively...not so much...didnt shoot the ball as well as we can.   As far as Yates margin of victory over hj, i dont think thats of much significance.  Yates is a team that we better be aware of either way,  they are a team that can beat us if we dont play like we should and maybe even if we do.  Lots of variables can lead to a victory margin being wider or closer than they really should be.

You are so right.  One in particular comes to mind that if he had played, I can’t imagine the Wildcats having a couple of championships on their most recent two trips to state.  But he couldn’t get it together off the court, so Coach Foster wouldn’t let him on the court...

I know exactly the young man you are referring to as a result of a couple of conversations I had with Coach Foster during those state runs. Coach Foster said he would have been the most talented player on those particular rosters at the time and those rosters included the likes of Angel Bullock, Benson Williams, Trent Williams, and Joseph Williams, just to name a few. And it in no way was any disrespect to any of those incredible players but rather a show of great respect to the young man's talents that unfortunately couldn't pull his life together of the court.

Yes. Those kids have got to play like they'll be starters or key players off the bench one day.

I agree that it can look bad be taken the wrong way by some people.. Coach Sigler did call off the press against some teams in district this year.

Silsbee was missing 5 or 6 players for that first Wagner.game. We knew what was likely to happen and it did. No hard feelings from any Tiger fans over it.

I guess we will just have to agree to disagree. No harm in that.
