Dayton vs WO-S Week 0 Predictions?
Gasilla replied to bronco1's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
This game will hinge on how well the young corners for WO-S will do against a big QB who threw for over 1,500 yards last year. This could be a high scoring ball game due to this, and, the fact that Dayton only returns 4 on their defensive unit from last year. In short, both defenses are young. Could be many points scored... -
That's right shepinto, there is nothing wrong (at all) with select ball. The problem is that some were using it as an excuse for these kids success and undermining the hard work and preparation these kids have gone through. It was DEFINITELY used in a derogatory manner.
-
This group of kids have never played together at Ford Park. After allstars started, they played in one select tournament in Lake Charles to get ready for this tournament and so did the Vidor number 1 team. That is the one (and only) time they have been anywhere near select ball.

I'm so glad someone brought this up... I heard the same things going on. After our game on Wednesday (Orange2), the TC1 coach approached my wife near the concession stand and interrogated her about the number 1 team and being a "select" team. I guess he thought that she would say something incriminating since she was obviously a mom of a number 2 player, but of course she would not. In fact, she told him straight up what she thought about his inquiries (he picked the wrong person ). Anyway... he was asking her how long they had been playing together and even asked the question, "tell the truth, they are a select team, aren't they?". She said, "ummmm... NO!" and walked off. Also, one of my parents over heard the same thing coming from some of the Vidor parents after their game, although not as bad. This is the problem I have with all of this CRAP. I am a second team parent/coach so I really don't have a dog in this fight. But I have coached several of the players on that #1 team and it PISSES ME OFF for ADULTS to belittle the accomplishments of these children and the hard work and hour upon hour that they have put into this game. Why in the F--k do ADULTS have to ruin the experience for these kids? Just because they are better than you doesn't mean someone is cheating. They are just better. I think it's a travesty that this was even going on. Thank God that the kids are oblivious to it so it will not take ANYTHING away from what they have accomplished. I purposely trolled the TC side a couple of times last night hoping that someone over there would approach me with this crap just so I could let them all know exactly how I felt about what went on. Parents... sit back and enjoy the experience. Realize that you will win some and you will lose some. Your kid will not always play short stop and he will not always play every inning. Accept the fact that there will be teams better than you at some point and realize that every coach is out there to do his best. Stop ruining this blessed experience for everyone around you. Your child is only going to be in this league for a short time, enjoy it and quit pissing and moaning. Before you know it, this period in their life will be over. Enjoy it and let those around you enjoy it too... Shame on some of you!

Yes, Orange1 is in the finals, but they will not play Friday unless need be. TC and Vidor1 will square off @ 6:00pm tomorrow and the winner will play Orange immediately following. If Orange loses that game then they will play Friday. If they win, the tourney is over...
-
Great game tonight TC... you guys came out and jumped on us and our kids just couldn't seem to recover. Good luck tomorrow in your first game. Gotta pull for Orange1 in the second though. Let's go Orange1 FINISH IT!!!!!
-
Yes, TC1 beat Groves1 20-11. Orange2 beat Groves2 16-15. tomorrow: Orange2 vs TC1 @ 6:00pm Orange1 vs Vidor1 @ 7:30pm I just want to say "way to go" to all of the kids who have fought hard in this tournament and a special congratulations to both of the Orange teams for making the final 4 of this tournament and are the only 1-2 combo left. You have done Orange proud!!!
-
Congrats T!!! Hope everything goes well tomorrow too. Make sure you get on here and let us know the outcome. I'm in Austin right now so I can't go out and watch.
-
You can't say we have 3 back. Players were rotated in constantly last year. Several will have varsity experience. The secondary will take it's lumps early, but the entire defense will be good. Mark my words...
-
WO-S defense will be better than recent past.
-
We may set something up for Wednesday. I'm looking at having 3 scrimmages this week. I think we're going to Sour Lake on Tuesday.

...always... and I have only myself to blame for this one. td will tell you the same. He tried to warn me, but I was trying to do the right thing by the kid. It appears I've screwed it up on all fronts. It's OK though, I'm not going to let one bad one mess up the whole crew... that you can take to the bank!!!
-
Yes... I'm so proud of these kids... this team is really coming together far better than I ever imagined. It's a great group of kids and parents (almost). It has really been fun!!!
-
OK shepinto, his head is big enough... ;D
-
Piratefan, that was Mothers Day weekend and along way away. That's why more teams didn't go. I would have loved for our team to have played. It was just really bad timing for it.

Man... I can't believe I missed all of this while this topic was still hot, but I'm going to add my .02 anyway... If your child improved and learned something about the game then it doesn't matter if his team went 0-50 or 50-0. I agree with what a few others mentioned, quit worrying about what the other teams are doing and teach your kids how to play the game. That's what the parents of the kids you DO have paid their money for, not to go 10-0. Way to much emphasis paid on what other teams are doing. I assure you, if you teach these kids to play the game the right way, they will compete. They may not win them all, but they will be competitive. I've always coached my own children because I feel like I can teach them the right way to play, but you can bet that if I were in a situation where I couldn't. I would do all I could to make sure they were on a team where they would continue to learn. Not just to go undefeated, but to learn. If going undefeated or winning it all is a by-product then so be it. Winning IS NOT what it's all about at this age, but you can bet, the teams that are being coached and are learning the fundamentals will always be at the top of the standings. To emphasize another point that was made earlier, if you don't like how things are run, then take an active role in changing them. Don't sit back and complain about the way others, who are giving up their free time, are doing it. I know the OYBS board begs for parents to get involved, if you can't find the time to get involved then stop finding the time to complain. I want to say this again, way to much emphasis is put on other teams and what they are doing which is WAY off track. These kids need to continue to learn every year. This is a long distance run, not a sprint. I read an article by a college coach a couple of weeks ago and he stated something so true. He said that all the accolades and undefeated seasons your son has when he is 10 years old will not be able to take away the pain of him being cut from his freshman baseball team. That is a very sobering statement, but so true. Little Johnny may be great now, but he has not reached the pinnacle of the sport at 9 years old. Quit worrying about everyone else and teach YOUR kids...

I, personally, just don't think that Jasper will completely turn it around this year (no offense Jasper fans), but they appeared to lack the speed and over all talent that they usually have and I didn't see it on the JV or Freshman teams either. I think Brooks will help, but I look for them to be around 5-5 or 6-4 this year. I hope I'm wrong, it's just an observation.

Wow... you have to elaborate on that... -
The Lady Cats played hard, but just weren't making the shots when they needed. I think they will bounce back from this. They have character...
-
Sometimes, when teams are supposed to be good and know they have talent, they can lose focus. I think that's what is going on right now. I saw the loss to Jasper and really couldn't believe what was happening. They are still as talented as last year. They are just in a slump. Hopefully, it doesn't cost them a playoff spot. All that matters now is getting in. If they do, the "3 in a row" crap won't mean squat.
-
AND... so did WO-S.

Because one of your BC brothers took a shot at us... I don't think he intended to offend all of BC, just that one person. -
