I disagree in part with this. While I do agree that we were having our way tonight with the Power-I. That was THIS game. That doesn't mean we should abandon our offense and be a Power I team. We had the matchups up front tonight to be successful. That does not need to become OUR OFFENSE. We need to go out, game by game and stick with what works. I don't think we will have the same matchups against Bay City to run the I. We might, but we can't just decide that's what we are going to do from here on out. -

I thought the Bears played an inspired game. The playing conditions hampered both running and passing games. Neither team could make cuts at all. I thought the soaked field neutralized the WO-S speed advantage and the Bears did their best with it. WO-S has to stop the turnovers. I'm sure we had at least 5 of them. LCM didn't have as many (2, I think) but the first one was crushing because it happened on the WO-S 1 yard line. WO-S had several of theirs deep in Bear territory as well. I think the Bears will compete for a playoff spot. They are very quick on defense and I thought their DB's did a really good job in coverage. The WO-S TD was just an athlete making a play because the LCM defender was in position, Josh just went up and took it. The only weakness I really saw from them is that they were a little weak up the middle. As someone said before, WO-S was getting 7-8 yards per carry running out of the Power - I and abandoned it. As for a comparison with Dayton. They are very similar on defense and both have good QB's. Dayton does not have a running back that can compare to Salter (he is much bigger than I remember him being). LCM has some good receivers too. They are probably pretty even in that department because Dayton has Dugat. Overall, I would say they are pretty close to equal. -

Are you trying to suggest that WO-S and LCM have the same issues? They are at completely different ends of the socioeconomic spectrum. Middle class kids and lower middle class/ impoverished kids have complelety different environments. If you don't know this then you aren't as informed as you pretend to be. Before you even mention it, I have read where you say "similar", what I'm telling you is that they aren't even close. Fact- middle class kids, on average, perform better on state standardized testing (look it up) Fact- lower middle class kids, on average, perform worse on standardized tests (look it up) Fact- when you have an equal or greater number of middle class kids, your state standardized test scores balance out and determine the success/failure of your overall average. When the middle class begins to leave, the test average begins to decline as the number of middle class gets smaller (which in turn causes the lower middle class/impoverished to get higher). This is a common occurence that is happening in different areas all over the state (again, look it up) not just in Orange TX. In the 80's and early 90's WO-S scores were competitive with any school around here. As the middle class started to vanish, so did it's performance in standardized test scores. Many of the teachers that were at the school then are still there. My question to you is, did they just decide to quit doing their job? Of course not. It's a social occurence that they have no control over. Teachers at WO-S bust their tails to provide these children with a quality education, and, as another parent with a child at WO-S High School, I'm telling you that they are doing a GREAT job. If you choose to send your children to LCM then more power to you. LCM is a good school, no question. Just don't try to take a dump on the school that my child is at in the process. Everyone knows that a standardized test average is not the end all, be all, of a schools ability to educate a child and your reference to that as being cause to evacuate is weak at best.

As for the game, I think it will be tough. LCM will be up and ready to play. Rivalry games are hard to pick.

Yet another shining example...

Read the entire thread. It was started because one of your boys popped off about our ability to fill stands just because a guy said we needed to get there early due to seating. Then he decided to advise someone about how much they need to exercise. Of course, you read it how you want, you will anyway...

Quinton Tezeno was probably the hardest hitter from WO-S that I ever saw or played with. He does have 2 boys (Bubba and Dominic). Both of them play football and they are both good athletes (especially the younger one). I think one is in the 6th grade and the other is in the 3rd. Both very good kids.

1.) Dayton 2.) Central 3.) Nederland Seen Dayton and Central. Both played on wet fields and both were first games. Yes, Central will get better, but so will Dayton. I think Dayton has the "X" factor in Green and Central lost theirs to graduation. After watching the LEE QB, I don't think Central will be capable of stopping him. Just my assessment.

Probably Thursday.

Probably didn't notice because I like Dayton... 77's attitude is a shining example of what I DON'T like about (some) LCM folks.
-
The only reason we haven't filled up that pathetic excuse for a visitors side is because LCM wouldn't schedule us. Every time I've been there before it was full and it will be again.

If Salter has a torn hammy he will not even play. If he has a strain, maybe.

Mailed you back. ;D

Did you video the entire game Friday? If so, I would like to get a copy from you. What do I need to do?

My only point is that the RB did not have success except for the one run and that particular play was a really good call at that point which was set up by the runs by the QB. I hear what you are saying about the depth thing. I actually counted more players suited out for WO-S than I did for Dayton which was quite surprising. I did see a lot of players with tops and jeans on. I don't know if they are JV players or Dayton just has a bunch of injured players. Friday was the first time in a long time that we actually had more players dressed out than the team we were playing. -
Six turnovers and you only lose by 12 points. I also hear that Livingston is pretty good. They returned something like 15 starters. I'll have to go with Jasper here. I have confidence that Brooks will cure their turnover ill's.

Except for Dishon, I thought BC was rebuilding last year. -
That's not what we're hearing.

Biggest Surprises And Disappointments For Week 0?

1). WO-S after halftime. I was not sure what kind of character this team has. They answered that question. 2). LCM- I thought the Bears going to beat up on CC. 3). Jasper- I thought they were going to open up big on Brooks first game back. I still think they will make an impact this year. 4). Orangefield- I still can't believe they were beaten that bad by Buna. I know they are young. Hopefully they will not get down and be able to bounce back from this loss. 5). Bridge City- Are they bad or is Liberty better than last year??? -

Dayton had one running play that was killing WO-S in the first half, the QB draw. The tailback that got ejected only had 16 yards on 7 carries when he left which included one 15 yard run. That one play was fixed at the half and thus, the end of Daytons offense for the night. I will say that, I feel the wet conditions hampered BOTH teams passing attacks.
