Some parents of successful LL programs have a difficult time turning the page once their kids go up to MS. Some kids grow and mature at faster rates then others... Some are no longer under the wing of uncle coach and others can develop attitudes and either don't want to work or don't want to listen. For the parents, grandparents, aunt's and uncles it's easier to blame the coach than it is to accept that things change and be realistic about a childs ability or attitude... They also have a tough time realizing that their children are no longer protected by weight limits etc... Some kids who were unbelievable in LL are not as dynamic when playing with bigger. faster kids. Kids they didn't have to contend with in the past. That's not to say that the MS coaches don't have a responsibility to do what's right. Many times, especially in the 7th grade, in every school, the coaches are often Baseball, Basketball, Tennis etc coaches who may not know that much about the game. I feel it is their responsibility to learn the game and to ask questions and listen to those who have been there and know the game and the particular program. But this issue is in every MS, not just one in particular. There are situations on both ends that can cause issues. Just some things I've observed.

Wasn't Huffman's defense supposed to be loaded this year?

J, I am a Mustang fan. I also believe in our defense. But, there is a huge difference between giving up NO TD's in district (which you said) and giving up 5. Let me also caution you about making bets your "rear" can't pay. While we do have a 1987/2000 like defense right now. We are nowhere near as deep as those teams were. My concern for us was our secondary besides some break downs on our back end jasper played a great defensive game also. Jasper offensive line haven't seen anything like it should make them better. Judging by this score and all the sub-varsity scores from 7th on up, we can look forward to more games like this in the future. Seven games and the biggest point margin in all of them was 14. Pretty competitive.

The offense will come. It's still early, we have some young lineman and we just played two very athletic teams. The like of which we will not see until the 2nd or third round of the playoffs. No offense to Silsbee, but they are giving up a ton on defense right now.

If he gave him Jasper and 10 then the WOS kid lost. We would have had to win by 11.

Mustang defense playing VERY physical. Still a bunch of game left though. Mustangs need to take the second half kick and drive for the knock out.

How about the rest of the scores? 7th - JV? Funny how only this one was mentioned...

Four coaches for 50 kids is a blessing in MS. In many schools, it's more like 2 coaches for 50 kids. Try and teach kids at that level anything when you have 49 other kids standing around. You teach a kid his job and tell the rest to listen, then when you put the other kid in that position, who was supposed to be listening, and he doesn't have a clue what you just taught the other. So now you have, basically, 50 kids and two coaches and they all need special attention. This is why you have the less talented kids doing a lot of watching and when they are in the game, appear unorganized and look like they don't know what they are doing. It's because they DON'T. There is only so much those guys can do in 2 hours a day, 3 days a week.

Central will match up with us better than either of our first two opponents. We have not seen a team yet this year, in our games or scrimmages that compare to the speed of the game that Central is going to bring. On the other hand, Central HAS played teams that can bring to the table what we will. Although I think both of those teams are in rebuilding years right now. Had they faced last years PAM or WB and played them that close I would be a whole lot more worried. But, as it stands, you can throw out the records. This game will be close and anyone who thinks other wise is not using very good judgement. I will not be surprised by whichever team wins, and I don't see a blow out either way unless there are turnovers early and one team or the other just gets way down quick and it gets out of hand. I don't see either team shutting the other out either.
