Through the decades Cuero has experienced shooting themselves in the foot many times.   Either team had a good chance at winning it all.  Cuero definitely respects Silsbee football.   Glad to be matching up again.  Hope our region wins it all.

Fellas, Silsbee was two games away from the title game and lost to a very very good Cuero team. That is a great success in 99.9% of the programs in the state. When you get to that level, the little things tend to rear their heads and cause teams to lose. Discipline, heart and experience usually tend to be the difference. Otherwise, we would never see a team like Liberty Hill continue to have the kind of success they have against clearly more athletic programs at this point in the year. Silsbee should celebrate the great year they had and work on fixing the small things that created the difference in the game. As far as experience goes, now they have that. Discipline can be created during the offseason, and heart must be brought by the players.

Kinda like converting on 4th and 13?
There was plenty of luck going both ways. The fact is that Silsbee had the more athletic team and got beat by a team that adjusted and executed better.

You know what I didn’t see from Cuero? They didn’t give up 14 points in the first 3 minutes of the second half. They didn’t get a false start in the red zone, get bumped back five yards, then miss a chip shot game winning field goal. They didn’t fail to convert their 2pt try in the third overtime.  Their players weren’t racking up personal fouls and I never saw Gobblers squabbling with other Gobblers… but I did see the Tigers do all of those things.

Do you know what gifted teams do when they get beaten by inferior teams? They blame “luck.”

Lucky? Silsbee gave up 51 points after halftime.

Cuero took care of business, Silsbee didn’t.

Are you insinuating Cuero isn’t any good,if so you might wanna reword or something because that was 2 very evenly matched teams…to win the whole thing you have to have some luck on your side, calls and such go your way!

The refs weren’t the ones giving up TDs on two and three play drives. The refs didn’t give up 34 points in the second half. The refs didn’t repeatedly give up big kick returns, and the refs weren’t letting Cuero’s tight end run wild on the secondary.

That blown call sucked, but it was just one of about 10 things that cost Silsbee the game.  I think the coaching staff does a good job, but I don’t think they’re championship caliber. Heck, that Miller TD on 4th and 13 to keep them alive was pure athleticism, not scheme.

Silsbee went into the locker room ahead 20-7 and less than three minutes later it was 20-20. At that point it just felt like Silsbee was on the ropes and never got off of them.

Funny it seems that its always a call near or at the end of the game that will be questioned that cost the losing team the game. Fact is that bad calls or missed ones are part of the game. Football is an imperfect game, that's why it's played and why we love it. I can't remember how many Cuero games I have left fuming because I felt of a bad call and then show me video or replay of the play and  OMG  I wouldn't sleep the rest of the week. This game was no different. You had two great teams so evenly match that the game could have gone either way. The turning point I felt was when Silsbee had Cuero down 20-7 and seem to let off the gas pedal defensively. I also felt Cuero made better half-time adjustments offensively because neither team could stop the other. Those are my thoughts.  Silsbee has a great team and from the post's great fans, I have no doubt you will be back and if Cuero is not there, I will be pulling for you.  As for now thank you both for one of the most exciting games of the ages.

You could see this coming almost from August.  These two would meet in the quarterfinals and the one that scored last would win.  It was a classic.
It’s not too much of a stretch I think to assert that any team that Cuervo beats we could and would beat.  And any team beats Cuervo could and would beat us.  Based on what I saw today we’re that close.  It’s almost as if the Cuervo kids celebrated a victory over their identical twin.

Bad call? You mean the call you got at Jasper game when ball hit the ground. Silsbee got out coached and played the second half.

Great game by both teams and after the first few minutes I thought Cuero was going to get blown out. Halftime adjustments to the offense by Cuero was the difference and the TE ate the tigers up. I’ll admit Silsbee was more athletic and faster by a step by my Gobblers never quit and pulled it out. #1 is a baller good luck to him in the future. I’m still in shock 🫣

Cuervo is battle tested.  Two overtime wins 4 post season games.  That’s bound to stand them well in the next game and maybe the next.  Wimberly is an offensive machine of late.  But I don’t think they have the power to handle  the Gobblers.

Cuero has settled down...if they didn't shoot themselves in the foot earlier they'd have the lead right now

I think Gobblers is a cool mascot name.  Quirky but fun.  I can't help but think of that famous "WKRP" Thanksgiving episode with my favorite line in all sitcom history,  "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!"

But if you have a turkey for a mascot you've got to have a chip on your shoulder.   And Toby the Gobbler certainly has.  He's a tough old bird.  He's been an All American mascot several times.

According to Massy Ratings Tigers is the second most popular high school mascot with 879 schools using it.  Practically a dime a dozen.  I wonder how many have "The Eye of the Tiger" as their fight song?  The various big cat species are far and away the most popular with Tigers and Lions and Panthers abounding.

By contrast there are only three high schools in America, according to Massey, that have chosen the noble bird as their mascot and Cuero is the only one in Texas.

If you are going to ask Smithville, I imagine they would say getting beat by Cuero 61-16 is just as bad as getting beat 34-0 to Silsbee.
