  1. A good friend of mine from Barbers Hill was just talking to me about the HF concession stand last week. Wait, was it HF, or HJ? Regardless, I live in the HF school district, and pay HF school tax. A couple-or-so years ago a new concession stand was approved by voters, I think it passed by 5 votes, at a cost of $1.5 million. I think my wife and I voted for it, but I recall wondering aloud, "geez, a 1.5 million dollar concession stand? The food better be good."
  2. Yeah, I was impressed. Lots of leadership. Lots of good freshmen coming up. Very aggressive play. And I'm glad it ended up in a diplomatic tie, 14-14.
  3. Wow, how tragic and sad. Prayers for his family and fellow students, and the community.
  4. Shea was QB1 all morning for this mornings' scrimmage, (offense vs defense). So there's that.
  5. I agree that was definitely a difference between the two meetings. Another big difference was the 11a.m. game time on a Saturday morning. PNG buses departed early, and there's no telling how late many or most of the boys stayed up. They definitely seemed to be dragging somewhat. But the team was still developing for sure. #10 was still playing mainly defense. #30 and #84, and #33 were beginning to get into the game more. They were a different team the very next game, vs Texas City, on both defense and offense.
  6. No, to both of your questions. I had no thoughts at all that the refs at FBM were residents of FB, or that they were FBM alumni, just that they were hesitant to throw flags. The refs in the 2nd game threw flags. But, it don't matter now, and my memory of both games has already gotten fuzzy, anyway. Re your second sentence, yes, I know that, but thanks for the info. I had two co-workers back in the 70's that were Refs for Jr High and JV games, and some smaller 1A or 2A games too if I recall correctly. They had to travel all over, and got games with smaller attendance, and they blamed it on their seniority. One of guys did get to call some pre-season scrimmages at 1 or 2 of the bigger schools; back then 4A may have been the biggest division. I don't know if the Refs now get a %-age of the gate.
  7. I have no basis for predicting the 4A preseason favorites. WRT 9-5ADII, any of the 4 listed could end up on top IMO, and Santa Fe could perhaps end up in the mix as well. Regarding the two games between PNG and FBM, the neutral field and neutral Refs I think was the biggest factor. In the playoff game FBM picked up where they left off with holding and unsportsmanlike conduct and the resulting flags were costly. Other factors are almost too numerous to count. But to just list two more, the prior week was PNG's bye week, and the starting RB #25 was injured in a weekend ATV accident and was subsequently out for the season. Regarding the heat on the field, IMO, PNG players were in better shape than FBM, just solely based on numbers of players down when the game got into the 4th qtr. Speaking of USL Conduct flags, the Texas City team gave up lots of key yards to PNG before their coach finally called the team to the side and (presumably) read them the riot act. Otherwise they were a pretty good team, IMO. Regardless, my pre-pre-season picks for 9-5ADII would be the same as yours. I hope PNG wins district next year.
  8. That's more than PNG I think, without checking. I don't believe #10 for PNG even made the cut, which is ridiculous. And Coach Joseph didn't get any recognition either.
  9. SOC was the clear favorite. Lots of future D1 players, possible so-called history in the making was bally-hooed (PTP) quite a bit. PNG wasn't supposed to be there. The guy sitting in the middle behind the desk in the stands, with the cowboy hat, liked PNG though.
  10. At least next year homecoming won't be the Dayton game.
  11. One or another has snagged me a time or two, especially the 99 cent offer from various newspapers. For this past weekend I read Bally's fine print to make sure I could cancel, which I did yesterday. So, we'll see if there was any extra fine print that I missed. I'll admit, though, that just allowing it to continue was somewhat tempting.
  12. I'll say this, #33 for PNG left it all on the field Friday night. He was visibly exhausted in the 4th qtr.
  13. I've always said we shouldn't have anything to do with Cherokee. Karankawa, maybe. But I say we go with the Welders. PNG Welders. "W-E-L-D-E-R-S! Tack 'em Welders, Tack 'em!!" Just think of the possibilities. I've already suggested this on the PNG site.
  14. The Houston Chronicle stated that there were 40,000 + in attendance to watch NS and Duncanville. So if you say that the stands were more full for the PNG game, then they must have had over 40k in attendance, (presuming the Chronical is accurate).
  15. He didn't make it. He was short, D-Ville's ball. Wow.
  16. D-Ville losing it. They better calm down and play D.
  17. Well, NS sort of self destructing. They need a turnover. Bad.
  18. Should NS score quickly? Better not too quickly. But they want to have time left after D-Ville gets the ball back.
  19. It seems like the runners and receivers in this weekend's games are almost going out of their way to do a stiff-arm. Edit: Throw. Throw a stiff-arm.
