  1. Yeah, I'd say that the Bulldogs had better keep their pads and helmets on, their eyes open, and their minds on this game at hand. (And the same goes for PNG and their homecoming game as well. )
  2. Ca. 1968 or '69, I was on the sideline and said something about the other team's luck after they covered our fumble, and Coach Mo O'Brien very quickly spun around to face me and said, "you make your own luck, son". (If you're of PNG lineage then you likely know who Coach O'Brien was.) Anyway, since everyone has their own opinions, then I have mine also, and when the first half ended I said out loud that PNG should win this going away, regardless of the outstanding play of Huntsville's D line. In the 2nd half, PNG appeared almost intent to give the game away, (with the help of the refs), but they won it anyway. This is my last comment on this one. I hope that Huntsville will bounce right back against Montgomery and MLC.
  3. When the roughing-the-passer flag was thrown I was thinking that it was going to be for defensive holding (of the receiver), and the young man calling the game for NDN Press thought so as well. That pass was 10 or 15 yards out in front of the receiver. Conner has missed some targets before but not by that margin. But anyway, the camera was on the action in the end zone so the passer and roughing or anything else at the LOS was not visible on camera. It was a good tough game, with a few mental mistakes, some blown coverage, screwy game clocks, some tough running and some outstanding play on both sides of the lines. PNG coaches got frustrated; that was the very first flag on a PNG coach that I can recall seeing in the past 5 or 6 years that I've been following the games, including the JV games. And I've never seen the likes of helmets coming off. One Huntsville defender got upset with himself and took off his helmet and threw it onto the ground right in front of the ref, who flagged him for an USC. Emotions were high. Also I hope the Huntsville kicker isn't down on himself, that was a good long kick, and when the ball hit the goal post the "twang" was very audible. Perhaps the extra umph from that distance cost a small bit of accuracy. Whatever, it was a good try. Huntsville will give Montgomery a good game.
  4. I just now looked up West Fork HS on Google. WF, New Caney, and Splendora are so close to each other, one could almost pick a day and play all 3 back to back, and then enjoy a game of golf afterward. There are some nice courses around there.
  5. On line they appear to be pretty evenly matched, but Silsbee may have a little more speed I think. Silsbee in a close one, even with HF HFA. I may attend this one. (Besides, I'd like to check out their concession stand, I've heard that it's nice, and that they have a good menu.)
  6. Ok, at first glance I thought this thread was going somewhere else. Such as what happened in Huntsville last night. If you're the referee and the play clocks are malfunctioning, how are you supposed to handle that? At one point early on the ref directed the press box to just turn the clocks off. I wasn't at the game, was just watching live stream on you tube, so I couldn't actually see the clocks. Reportedly they came back on but were out of synch.
  7. I expected a closer score than this. Congrats big Ned.!
  8. Good game both teams overall. I was really impressed by Huntsville DL #53. The refs overall have had a tough season so far, and I'm not talking about just this game, but all the games I've watched. I'm not throwing stones, I've never refereed a game, I'm just saying that there seems to be lots of confusion in the close games I've seen so far. But the clock issue tonight was simply ridiculous.
  9. The play clock and time clock is messed up and refs keep calling delay of game , and now an USC against PNG coaches. Welcome to Huntsville.
  10. PNG is double teaming #53 and he's still making tackles.
  11. Montgomery is having a good season, and have been the dark horse. It'll be an interesting district, like everyone expected.
  12. This should be a good game, I'm thinking.
  13. May he rest in peace, and may God comfort his family and friends at this time. That Silsbee High School Wall of Honor says a lot, IMO. It's the real deal, and Coach Drake must have also been the real deal.
  14. Hey, the strategy worked all last season, so I'm just trying to keep it going. Besides, I'm just helping the coach out a little. His superintendent was sitting right there, and I hear that he's a PNG grad. Anyway like I said I ff'd through and caught the gist of it. Just at a glance actually I think he was more blase' about LC than PNG. But these good coaches remind me of stock brokers, cautiously optimistic about their recommendations for a stock, like maybe NVDA or Apple. I'm hoping for a better game than the LC game, those kinds of games are too much for my nerves. About half the point total of last week's PNG-LC score-fest would be ok.
  15. I've seen all sorts of things during the post game handshakes, but this one is a first for me. I hope that I've seen it all now; no new fads or trends. My grandson a couple of years ago after a JV game responded to a verbal remark from an opposing team member, and basically told him to just look at the scoreboard. He (my grandson) didn't make it off the field or even into the red zone before one of his coaches stopped him and had a "discussion" about it. I was glad to see that he and the coach did shake hands after the discussion, though. Those are the kinds of coaches that get the most respect, really, IMO.
  16. I scanned through the Huntsville coach's weekly interview, posted on another forum. He's correct, PNG isn't anything to worry about. Lake Creek should have won that game last week, they had plenty of opportunities. He isn't impressed at all. I sure hope he makes it a point to tell the Huntsville team to just relax and take it easy tonight. No worries.
  17. I watched the 2nd half, and was particularly impressed with #12 on Hardin, both offense and defense. Good game for both teams, and fun game to watch.
  18. Good hard fought, gritty, grind it out ball game. I only saw the 2nd half, but IMO Hardin didn't get the ball into #12's hands enough in the 2nd half, or follow his blocks enough either.
  19. C'mon Dogs! You can win this one.
  20. Pulling for Lake Creek!
  21. We (including me) seem to be still discussing the LC game, but I think it's wrt the upcoming Huntsville game. Hopefully there will be a good crew of refs. I didn't keep count and I haven't watched a replay (it's not my job to watch replays), but there was plenty enough holding and blocking in the back going on, and on at least two of LC's long TD runs it was blatant and very visible. At least finally 1 TD was called back for holding in the second half, so perhaps the PNG coaches got in the ref's ears pretty good during the first half, especially at the end of the first half when PNG had to score twice, on 3rd down and again on 4th down, in order to get the TD. PNG coaches were not happy at all with the non calls, and neither was I when I saw at least one defender's eyes being poked. Let's hope it's not that way in Huntsville, and it will be a good game.
  22. Gonna be another close one. I was more impressed with Huntsville than LC last season, but that was of course last season. This season it seems that all of the O-lines are big, and the running backs are all speedsters. Hopefully that last PNG defensive stand at the end of the game, and the 4th down sack, helped the defense to turn a corner.
