I appreciate your honesty and the vote for my son.

Not saying you are saying this, but I am. I dont give a dern if they are a 19 year old senior or a 14 year old freshman, the best players in the district should go on the 1st and 2nd Team list and they should be placed on those lists according to their production, not how long they have been in the program or how it isnt fair that their 2-10 team didnt have anyone represented in the selections. This is Varsity Basketball, the best kids are named to the best spots and the awards should reflect that.

I have said it before, but these are kids and we have a moral obligation to get it right. Last years voting was an absolute joke and lost a lot of credibility for what happened in that room.

I am confused why an arbitrary individual award that is non-monetary is such a big deal to you.  Everyone now thinks they should be recognized for every little thing they do.  How bout these kids just go play the game and have fun and not need constant reinforcement and ego boosting?  I promise they won't get that when they go to work.

Why do you believe the votes have gone differently than you believe they should?

Orangefield's Coach Whitmire deserved to be Coach Of The Year. He was a new coach with a new team that lost 7 Seniors the year before. The same 7 Seniors that some on here referred to as the "Most Dominant Senior Class Ever In Orangefield". Most on here projected us to finish 3rd or 4th in the district after last season. Coach Whit did return Scales and Wrinkle the previous year teams 2nd and 3rd leading scorers but he didnt have the depth that Joubert had or any impactful move ins (legitimate or not) that Kountze did. With all of that being considered, Whitmire coached Orangefield to a their first Co-District championship since 1954, two big tournament wins, Orangefield's All Time Winningest Record (33-6), and the 3rd Round of the Playoffs (not known at the time of voting). All of this with 70% of his scoring coming from two players (Scales & Wrinkle). That is coaching at it's finest in Texas H.S. Basketball.

Jaden "Ghost" Scales deserved to win "MVP" and not just "Offensive MVP". For all of the same above mentioned reasons, as well as putting up MVP numbers throughout the season on extremely efficient percentages and outplaying (Scales had 21 in the loss, 26 in the win) Sells in both District Matchups. The third Kountze/Orangefield - Playin Game was played after the District Meeting where voting took place. Even in that game, it was obvious who was believed to be the most dangerous player on the floor, and limiting Ghost's touches proved successful for Kountze because we didnt have enough fire power without him. With that being said, to me it is obvious who the most valuable player to their team was by how they were guarded and other teams chose to play them. Ghost was robbed again, just like last year when NOTY was given to Kountze instead of Ghost when he torched them in both meetings as a freshman when his counterpart's numbers were nowhere close to his. I can't honestly tell that story without also saying the MVP was given to Sells last year as well. So, both MVP and NCOTY went to a team last year that needed a Playin Game to make the playoffs. Perrault from EC (Best player on #1 Team) should have been MVP last year and Scales (2nd Leading Scorer on #2 Team) should have been Newcomer Of The Year - IMO

Don't get me wrong, Joubert is a great coach and Sells is a great player, that I have nothing but love for.  However, it seems they are able to have their cake and eat it too though. You can have a homegrown freshman (NCOTY) and move-ins (legitimate or whatever) that we all turn a blind eye to and watch you go from 4th to 1st, or you can be viewed as the best Coach and player in the District because you took your team so far without as much help. Watching the full swing of both arguments to benefit Kountze in the last two years isn't the easiest sell to me or many others on here and elsewhere. As always though, I am just the only one to say it. That's ok though, doing what is right is more important to me than doing what is popular.

Congratulations to all of the kids and Coaches who were recognized this year though! The voting this year was much closer to where it should be than it was last year by a long shot.

It doesn't matter what any of us think.  It's the district coaches' decision and they picked the best player on the best team so it can't be that egregious.

I do think there should be some accountability with these votes, though.  These are public schools so the voting should be open to public record.  Maybe they could even do it at a place like Twin Peaks and people could present their case with film and stats.  Then we could see who voted for who without all the backwoods politicking. I think I would go to that all district meeting.

    1000% agree.

Boutte is in this rarified air. Particularly those Lincoln years.

Green is pretty special in the fact he has taken 4 different teams to the state tourney, winning 3. Four straight regional championships, looking for their 4th straight state title game, puts United at the top of the hill.

Since Sigler came back to Silsbee in 2012, the Tigers know nothing other than being regional favorites. These last 13 seasons under him have been some of the most successful years that any team would want to have. 11 regional tournaments, 10 regional finals, 5 regional championships, 3 state finals, 2 state championships. If the prognosticators are right, Silsbee will play in their 4th state title game in last 9 seasons. (some say they played the title game against FF in 2022, so that would make 5).

These two coaches resumes are second to none.

BTW, I love the fact that Silsbee is a part of both of these coaches career.

I'm not sure how you are forgetting coach mitchell.

I was the Orangefield Fan mentioned, and I think its's obvious that I will stand up for kids anytime there is a need and always have. He wanted to feel like he was in control while he did his best to cheat the kids and coaches and literally came over to where I was while me and my son were talking.  What he was doing was blatant and obvious. I am always courtside with a camera, so Im pretty sure he backed off knowing everything he said or did could be proven.

I can't stand cowardly, lying, cheating people, who spread ill will and discontent. Add to that, they are willing to go at kids who deserve better, and I'll 100% of the time stand between those kids and the fire. Im glad you think that is funny @Bobcat1! It shows more about your character than it ever will mine!

This is why I poke at you all the time.  There's so much wrong in this post.  The refs aren't cheating you or your kid.  They're certainly not afraid of you having "evidence" in a kangaroo court. You're not achieving anything by acting like a Jersey Shore fool (standing up for them as you say), except to entertain people.  Do you think that causes officials to change how they call in the Bobcats' favor?  And why are you even talking to your kid in the middle of the game?  Pretty sure he has a real coach who is pretty dang good.

Your son is a really good player.  Like really good.  And I love watching him play (except for all these techs), but I seem to find myself always watching your antics.  Orangefield has had a fantastic season and I hope it continues past Hitchcock.

If you are going to address me, then tag me.

Refs - I simply made an obvious assessment of the fact that my son never even got to foul line all night even though he was fouled repeatedly, hand checked, blocked, and pushed all why we are in the bonus. Sells made it to the line more than our entire team's free throw count which totaled to be 7 in Game 3.

Kountzes Runs - We were up double digits to zero in the first quarter at start of the game, which could have helped us through the Kountze runs. With that being said, Your math in bold above shows a score of 53 -14. We got our other 39 points during the same game.

Orangefield's Supporting Cast - They put up 27 of the 35 I said we needed and were led by Thomas with 14. They were 8 shy and we lost by 9. I said all along that Kountze would come out; face-guard and double Ghost like they did during the 2nd half of Game 2 and now all the way through Game 3. It is good defensive strategy on Coach Jouberts part and I dont blame him at all. It's what Id have done if I was playing us as well. Who wouldn't? Ghost torched yall in Games 1 & 2 with fg's and assists not ft's. He had 21 & 26 with only 7 total free throw attempts for both games. Taking him out of the game and disrupting our offense is smart defensive strategy, but it also means that you should have to live with picking up more fouls which is what happened during Game 2. We just didnt get those calls in Game 3, so it is what it is. It's a sport and always a gamble.

Orangefield's Horses As You Put It - I've said all season that our ceiling was every bit as high as Kountze, but we are nowhere near as deep. That shouldn't be news to anyone. Yall have bench players that would start at other schools in our district! No shots taken here, that is a great luxury to have. We have to run our horses in the ground against a team like yall.

Scales Having 12 Points In The Last 6 Quarters - I've already said it was good defensive strategy to take my son out of the game, and that I would've done the same, so yes hats off to Kountze for having a plan and executing. We absolutely should be doing more to free him up with downscreens, motion, etc when teams choose to play him that way because he is such a big part to the flow of our offense. At the same time, Coach Whitmire addresses those types of things with the boys, but heat of the moment decisions and basketball IQ isn't the same in all players at the Varsity Level. I'm sure we will have to implement some things to help free him up and I couldn't be more happy with our entire Coaching Staff and what they do with our boys.

Did You Know? - Last year Ghost had 21 & 25 through Games 1 & 2 of the Playoffs as a 120lb. freshman. Hitchcock  was sitting in the stands during Game 2 and literally face-guarded him from the opening tip during Game 3 and only allowed him 5 touches throughout the game. He was scoreless with no attempts from the foul line and even though we were up by 1 going into the 4th, we lost by 10. FACTS - COACHES CHOOSE TO TAKE HIM OUT OF THE GAME AND SEE IF THE OTHERS CAN BEAT THEM. ITS STRATEGY, AND ALLOWS OTHERS TO THINK THEY ARE OPEN OR ARE ONLY SEEING MINIMAL COVERAGE. IF THOSE PLAYERS CAPATALIZE ON THAT KIND OF COVERAGE, THEN IT FREES GHOST BACK UP. IF NOT OR AT LEAST NOT TO THE LEVEL NEEDED TO ACCOUNT FOR HIS POINT PRODUCTION, THEN WE LOSE!!! Not Rocket Science here bro!

We will do better and this team is a true team of brothers, that apologize to each other for mistakes made and look out for each other. They have a real joy playing together and it has been an honor to watch them all year! They can pull together and do big things like they did in Game 2 and we believe in them, which is all I have ever said from the beginning.

I was not at this game, unfortunately, but I have a question.  You are saying Kountze faceguarded and doubled your son.  Were they not in a diamond press and zone?  I have never seen a Kountze team not in zone.  Just curious.

Pretty hard to believe that would be the free throw count as aggressively as yall play in the press the whole game. Not a good look especially in a 9 point game. The no calls were as bogus as it seems, the free throw count just proves that.

I thought it was the role players/bench underperforming that cost yall the game?  Or is it the refs' fault now?  Maybe if the Bobcat guards would attack the paint instead of jacking excessive amounts of long jumpers and slinging the ball to the other team, they would get to the free throw line more.  In sports, there are no excuses.  Only results.

They do have the talent to take 2nd in district but will they have the discipline? They play their best if they keep their mouths shut, head down and just play the game. Last night, I saw what I assume was a parent on the front row literally heckling players for Silsbee. BC doesn't need that garbage and the cop had to go talk to him.

BC has some talented kids and the shifty little point guard can handle the ball well but someone needs to go take it from him when he starts playing selfish, ball-hogging and throwing up forced shots and that seems to be the pattern in every game I've been able to catch this season. Outside looking in, that ruined the entire mojo of that BC team last night. Robertson seems like a good coach but he will need to get ahold of his players before they end up losing out on a possible playoff run due to selfishness.

I think this is a disappointing result for Bridge City.  Losing by thirty plus to Silsbee whiteout their best player is not good.  I still think they should be a playoff team.

I know we messaged separately and I told you my side, but I am pretty sure the math can be done on why some folks in the know at LC-M's story may vary slightly. Corey Guilbeaux (Kelly's Assistant Coach Now) had been their JH Coach the previous year on a part time stipend, so it wasnt an unheard of thing to do over there. I was most of the incoming 7th Grade JH Team's AAU Coach as well as Jonah Fuller on their incoming 8th grade Group, so it was an opportunity to see them through JH Basketball, so it made sense. Was told it was a done deal and I even said Id just donate the stipend back to the school. Covid, blah blah blah and whatever, it didnt happen. No problem, Ghost was already there, had made friends and we really like Coach Hunter Gonzales and still do.

No big deal, but I promise that is how it all happened.

Did they hire you to be the film guy?  I almost came and talked to you at the Orangefield tournament, but I was intimidated by your cinematography setup.  And I didn't want you to yell at me.  If the Orangefield role players were half as intense as you, the cats would be a top 10 team in the state.

  9. My comment wasn't really aimed at anyone.  I just meant I wanted to see them play someone good.  However, now that I look, I see that none of Orangefield's opponents this year were playoff teams last year.  Maybe the new coach came in and wanted a schedule geared toward building confidence.

As to Onalaska, I admittedly don't know much about them.  Several on this board have said that is a good team though.  Maybe I'll check yall out too.

I personally think Lcm will win the DC and will win in the first round of the playoffs, and will continue to win up till the 4th round until they play the 1st seed of the same district they will be playing in the first round(if you get what I’m saying) then it’s a dog fight.

@BEARCPA this is the type of thing I was previously referring to in another thread.
