  1. Didn’t know you guys were spread now. I think some people look at the spread as airing it out. A lot of teams run the spread and are still a smash mouth/run first team. It’s all about the attitude and what you want your team to be. Also depends on personnel.
  2. I'd be willing to bet there is a kid on that new turf baseball field right now that could sling it around the yard. Same with OF/LCM/Lumberton/HJ.
  3. Gotta start the development in the JH. Todd Dodge has a development program from the time a QB starts in the 7th grade. Kids play in open space in every other sport (basketball/baseball) then football comes around and you ask them to get foot to foot with their hands in the dirt & ask for 3 yards and a cloud of dust? It's just not fun playing football like that. Boring to watch, boring to play.
  4. I'll be glad when the slot-t craze of SETX dies out. I played in it at a school when everyone was still in the spread. Good offense but not very fun to play in. I think there is a better way to go about it. People say you can't run it at small schools, false. Just have to know what you're doing and develop.
  5. Silsbee is always the one that comes to mind for me. On a smaller school level, Evadale does well also.
  6. Yes. Boys and girls. As in culture and success of the overall athletic program.
  7. Starting this thread as a spin off from discussions about the Coach Graham hire. What school has the best overall athletic program in SETX and why?
  8. True. Have to get the community back into having a competitive athletic program instead of just trying to be good at a one or two sports. We see that a lot of smaller schools can do this well but somehow has been lost as you move up classifications. It goes both ways too. Football coaches/parents should encourage athletes to play other sports like basketball/baseball and/or track instead of just training year round for one sport. The competitive mindset is a hell of a tool in athletics.
  9. Lets hope so. The way HS sports is now most kids want to play ball no matter what sport they're playing. The more kids a school signs, chances of more players coming out increases. Look at BC for example, labeled a baseball school because so many kids just play baseball because they have a chance of playing at the next level. I'd be willing to bet if BC got all of the baseball kids on the football field they would be better. Side note, Johnny Dishon and younger brother both played football at BC, 1 went to LSU and the other to Ole Miss for baseball. BRING BACK THE MULTI SPORT ATHLETE AND ATHLETICS WILL BECOME BETTER.
  10. Maybe instead of using BISD we should just refer to the school by name?..Kids have to have to talent to get looked at which we can all agree BOTH Beaumont schools have talent. The 2nd step is the coaches getting kids information/film in front of the recruiters which seems like one school is doing a better job than the other at that.
  11. False. Over 50 kids from WB have signed to play football at the next level over the last 3 seasons plus a number of athletes from other sports. Even the big time schools still go in there to look at kids.
  12. Under one of the best coaches in the state or under one of the best recruiters in the state?
  13. Not to mention, Nelson hasn't really been involved with athletics for 2 years...
  14. No doubt 409 teams have some grit that you don't get at other parts of the state. Honestly don't really think either of them will turn the tides at BU but that's just my 2 cents.
  15. Not knocking on Coach Nelson because he is a good coach, but wouldn't you want someone to come in and change the culture of the program instead of just fitting into what is already there?
  16. Not hating on Graham but just wondering, how did he end up in El Paso?
  17. I guess they aren't paying attention to the fact Duncanville is under investigation.
  18. Some good candidates on that list. Also a lot I've never heard of and some I have that would be disastrous.
  19. There is plenty of talent at BU. Should've been more competitive in 6A but if they get the right guy, BU should make some noise in 5A. Hear it could be a WB alumn.
