I  agree. I have attended PNG football games for 52 years. I have seen horrible teams, and great teams. I was in bed sick for the Ozen game last night. That is the 5th football game I have missed in all those 52 years.  Support is critical for the success of any program. That being said, lets get some of these football fans out for PNG basketball as well.   Be an Indian fan.  Not just an Indian football fan.

I don't know what the situation is of folks, so I can't criticize.  We are who are on here are very lucky, our current position allows us to devote our Friday night to those boys.  We don't know if it the same for them.  They may not have a reasonable way to get to Port Neches...it doesn't seem like very much of a drive but when you don't have reliable transportation, it seems like here to El Paso.  Also, I am sure that some folks who would love to be there to support the kids but can't make it to the stadium due to a job that they are working in order to put food on the table for those very same kids.
Now, I am sure that on some level, the lack of attendance is due to apathy and it may be on a much higher level than I think.  But I just don't know that I can point to it as the cause or question whether a person is putting their child as a priority, when what they may be doing instead of attending the game is doing exactly that.

You have to forgive Soulja. He is clueless on this particular subject.
I may not like aau ball and joke about it on here, but I do recognize and respect certain summer circuits these kids play. I agree, Hefner faced much better overall talent playing UAA and the coaches on that circuit are far from "shoe salesmen".
Anything that Central, Memorial or Ozen throws at Hefner, including the coaching strategies, he has already seen as good or better.
I guess the question is, why be negative or question his ability or why he is getting offers, in the first place? And why bring up anything about eligibility?

They use all 4 grades so each grade level is accounted for at least twice during enrollment.  It is not uncommon for smaller district to have a "bubble" year where enrollment is significantly higher in that one grade level.  If you did not count seniors and that group was only counted in the 10th grade for the first time then that big enrollment would only affect that district in one enrollment.
Either a class gets counted in the 9th and 11th grade year or it gets counted in the 10th and 12th grade year.  Every class gets counted twice under the current system.

Guys, that's not what Cardinalbacker is saying for the love of all thing Holy. He is pointing out that these guys, the ups, already take enough crap. Their whole existence is judgement calls. Last I checked there is no instant replay in HS baseball, hell, any baseball. He is saying that riding the up all game will NOT help in the decision making of his said calls. And it might actually be detrimental to the team that is doing it. Not in spite from the ump, but just the ump getting fed up in general. Now, with that said, we all saw the pitch and all of us can agree it was a strike, probably CS people also. But that is baseball, it doesn't always go your way. CB is trying to say that riding an ump all day won't help the cause period, even if he shakes it off!!

There's nothing like hassling an ump to make sure that every other call goes against you. I've never understood that logic. Does anybody seriously believe that an ump hunches over behind the plate and says to himself, "you know, that fan that's screaming at me is right. I need to make whatever changes are necessary to make sure this contest is called fairly. In fact, I owe that fan a call or two to make up for my mistakes."

bulldog81 reacted to Rake1 in A public plea to the SETX board
    To all the SETX members,
It's time to take the board back and make it into the place we all enjoy. For quite some time this place has gone downhill for a variety of reasons. If you want a prime example read the BC vs Silsbee baseball game 2 thread starting on page 2, it's just over the top nonsense by both folks just trolling and moderators doing the same thing. There have been some really cool people who posted great information that just quit contributing due to all the trash that gets stirred up. Some of those folks completely left and that's a shame because they made this board a great place for people to get caught up on local high school athletics as well as college sports to some degree. I would like to humbly offer up a suggestion and that's to create a totally separate forum for those folks who just want to antagonize each other and let the trash talk flow. Let all those folks who constantly derail topics have at one another to their hearts content and stay out of topics where they disrupt everybody else. Hopefully this alternate forum can be created and the sports forums can go back to being about sports, the real reason most of us got here in the first place.
    To the Moderators,
I personally appreciate the time you guys put in to keep this place going, I know that's a huge undertaking and thankless job. Hopefully you can "police" the site in the future and discourage all the "foolishness" by sending those unwanted comments to that "alternate forum". One more public appeal to "AAW" , you are an ultra knowledgeable guy who has done a fantastic job promoting local high school sports and I thank you for that. You were always super nice to my son while he was playing and you have been a stand up guy on other issues as well. I would encourage you to promote a little more positive responses to topics by yourself and others going forward because this board is the lifeline to local sports for people all over our area and beyond.
    With respect to all,
    Rake1

lol like I said before I have came out and said numerous times who I am. The names Travis Williams little buddy and and played for majority of the current coaching staff, so called you out on your bluff. So if Monte doesn't play your son right are you going to pull him and start your own team like you did with Nederland LL? Still talked about Nederland to this day. Monte had years and years to obtain a Masters, he was just a OC and a gym coach no responsibilities during the spring semester except  a year of softball head coach which he did a fantastic job but those were some of Nederlands greatest years of softball. If you can't handle your business to insure their is no doubt you will get the job rather than expect a handout that you will be just giving the HC/AD because you have been there for years then that's a disgrace and slap to Nederland Athletics. A masters degree isn't just a paper to pay more that was a moron statement. Being a AD you are running a business and in charge of the business ethics of the whole athletic dept, managing coaches and staff, legal issues, well being of students and etc. Coaches get fired all the time for not just the record but being poor AD and not running the buisness aspect correctly.
I wasn't more biased for one coach more than the other I wanted one that met credentials that a single 5A high school town in Texas should hire and that's a masters degree recipient. Not a step back but that's how Nederland is and afraid of change and won't see the big picture.
Its Monte's program to run and hope he wins a state championship but time will tell on how everything will pan out. I hope he hires Coach English a legitamate assistant basketball coach of his choice. Not a fill in.

I'm sure Monte will fill the oc with someone from the staff. Then he would only have to hire a position Coach. It amazes me how a couple people on here trash him. Do you even know his role under Neumann. He was responsible for way more than any of you think. He has been patient and deserves a levitate shot. I just hope the people on here trashing him don't have a kid on the team. Don't need any daddy poison going on. It would seem that in a community like Nederland that everyone would rally around the coach. But it would also seem we could get a bond passed. Anyway only time will tell if he was the right man for the job, but I feel like he was.

bulldog81 reacted to WOSgrad in Kirbyville open Neece turns in resignation
As much as it might have all of us scratching our heads, to the person that really counts, Greg Neece, it makes perfect sense.  One of the perks of doing the football previews is the chance to interact with the coaches about their programs.  I can assure all of you that there are few coaches who professed as much pride in their program as Coach Neece.  But something changed.....we don't know what and as much as some think they have the timetable down, we don't know when.  Chances are good that we will never know.  But that change inside of Greg Neece brought him to realize that he could no longer give his all as the athletic director of Kirbyville ISD and as head coach of the Kirbyville High School football team.  Coming to that realization, he did the most compassionate thing that he could have done for the kids of the program....he stepped aside.
Of course, the move to a quarterback coach position at another school is quite curious. However, let's look at a couple of things.
Now what I am about to say is not is not intended to be a slight of the Kirbyville football program, or athletic program for that matter.  It is an excellent program with a very enthusiastic fan base (I am probably going to get a reminder of how enthusiastic pretty soon).  However, if you would canvass coaches outside of this area to take a look at the Kirbyville program and the Newton program, I wager that many more than we think would not view it as a backward move to leave the head coaching position at Kirbyville, an excellent program known well here in the area, to take an assistant's position at Newton, an excellent program that has some state wide prestige.
Even for those that do view it as a "backward" step, we can't assume that every coach will follow the same pattern of ambition.  What prompted Bob Westerberg last spring to leave Allen where he has reached what many would consider the pinnacle of coaching in Texas, multiple 6A Division I State Championships, for Barbers Hill, whose last state championship appearance was just over 40 years ago?  What prompted Larry Neumann, who told the Port Arthur News in September that loved coaching and that he had no intention of retiring, to, without a public word, file retirement papers with the Nederland ISD at the end of the year?  We think that we may have the windows into these coaches' hearts and souls, but we don't.
Coach Neece, while we will always wonder as to your reasons why, good luck in your new position in Newton.

I don't necessarily buy into any conspiracy theories on this.  While both Central and Nederland programs hold quite a bit of intrigue locally, I don't see that coaches around the state would be all that fired up about either position.
