Who and where is their 1st scrimmage?

It was at Livingston. Controlled part each team scored twice. They played 2 qtrs, Tigers 14, Liv 0. I was told Livingston is really good , but got tired in the two qtrs. Silsbee not to shabby considering they are starting 12 to 16 sophomores.

7 on 7 has to be the most overrated gauge to what teams are able to accomplish going into a season or to show what they've done in the off season.  It's good for competition, don't get me wrong, but isn't there a group of Hornets that won the 7 on 7 state championship but was lucky to win 4 games the next year?

A lot of teams will run a scheme designed for 7 on 7 play, if a team is trying to stay as close as they can to what they will do on Friday night, yes it could be a gauge for the quality of the team. At least at the skill positions anyway.

Your thoughts on this:  At Carthage, 84 prior years and 20 different coaches, nothing, not one Title.  The next coach up, S. Surrett, comes in and proceeds to win 8 Titles.  We'll just stick with this one example.  Explain this.

Really cant explain other than the right person in the right place at the right time. Kinda like the guy that walks into a store on a certain day and buys the winning lottery ticket . On a serious note , its a puzzle with a lot of pieces , and sometimes it all comes together, and most times it don't, thats why most dont make it to Jerry world.

Still waiting for your answer to me as well.  Tom Westerberg won 4 state titles.. including 3 in a row.

So.  When will Westerberg win his next one?  Or is he not an elite coach anymore?

And also does that mean that CT at WOS is no longer an elite coach , because Silsbee improved and a power house 4a 1 team ( Carthage ) moved into Region 3, 4a div 2, and prob will not go back to a state title until Carthage moves back up or gets put in region 2.

Once you've earned it how can it be taken away?  One earns it by doing.  How can one undo it?   Majority of the coaches go through their entire life and never even get a sniff of the big dance.  The elite coaching fraternity is quite small.  But, again, you have to earn it.  Just like the Hall Of Fame.  One gets there because they "earned" it.

Tod Dodge?  He's won at two different schools.  How do you know he couldn't win at another school?  There are a lot of presumptions on your part.

Didnt dodge struggle at marble falls? Cause they had no athletes thats why, among other things? What happened to Rhoades at GP?

What does Silsbee have returning for 2021? How will the QB position look since Foster is graduating?

I was told, very young in all aspects of the game, but future is bright. Lots of young skill kids, but ? for lineman. Monster lineman in Jr high though.

Hopefully the realignment Gods will be good to Tigers, and 22, 23 will be great years? keep your fingers crossed, maybe Turf by then?

Just because it hasn't happened yet in Warren doesn't mean it has never happened elsewhere.  I have given you examples of teams in the past that were, my opinion, equal to or even less than Warren.  But, I will agree with you 100%, Warren will not get an elite coach.  But, again, at the time, neither did Carthage, Stephenville, and I'll give you another one, Celina, when they hired GA Moore and eventually won 6 State Titles while NOT winning one before him.  Coach Moore won one, left, came back and won 5 more.  Luck?

Warren has only been playing football for 70 years.  It took Carthage 84 years and it also took Stephenville 84 years to win their one of many State Titles.  Warren just has to hire the right coach.  But, again, that's a craps shoot.  Surratt didn't have an elite history when he got to Carthage.  But -- he EARNED it by winning his 8th State Title!  Something no one before him was able to do.  You think that was pure luck?

Takes more than a coach. Just ask Jerry jones? Think about it Jerry Jones, Jimmy Johnson, Norv Turner, Dave Wannstedt, developed probably one of,  if not the best team in the history of the NFL. But not one of these guys listed , ever made it back to the top again by themselves. The Cowboys success was done with a combination of factors. Even Barry Switzer won a super bowl, and could have easily won in 94 and 96, and all he did was sit around with the payers ,drink beer and watch.lol

I wonder whose brain Surratt picked to help him get it going up there. He'll win anywhere he goes and there's no reason to leave Carthage anytime soon.

A restaurant could hire a world famous Chef, but it wont matter if they dont buy any food ? lol

  9. I was told none of the Carthage lineman ,not only don't play both sides of the ball, but they don't practice both sides of the ball, thats un heard of at the 4a level. 4a and down, and even some 5a kids may not start both ways , but they are backups on the other side of the ball, therefore they spend half their practice time practicing that. This means Carthage lineman are getting twice as much practice time as other teams. They have the numbers to do it, we can argue as to why that is, but it is. Everything they do on Offense is based off their O Line scheme, from running zone plays, to being able to protect QB long enough to connect with secondary crossing routes. This is why 6a football looks like its so much better coached. My opinion, but Carthage has a great 4a defense, but they are playing Offense at a 6a level.

I'd heard that this year's freshman class was chock full o' big boys.... There was talk that some of them might see some playing time on V because Silsbee was otherwise so short of lineman.  Or at least that one of the moms was telling me, lol.

Thats probably the ones I was told need a good off season,

I’m still surprised that your numbers aren’t up with all of the recent success.

Also disappointed that the SIL o-line isn’t a consistent powerhouse. I thought that was Coach Smith’s bread and butter.

Hooefully it was just a rebuilding issue this year.

You watch film as season progressed probably  played better than you think, sev played both ways. Right now more skill kids in program than big boys. This years 6th, 7th, grade loaded with big boys. In a couple years should really be good up front. As for now, need a Covid free normal offseason to develop existing fat kids, and young ones.

That may be true but the two common  opponents  the scores were pretty much the same so cant say for sure until wos actually plays someone good

Somebody before said its about matchups, and because of that, what WOS does on defense, I suspect will limit what CS can do offensively. I predict CS will have less than 3 first downs going into the 3d qtr. The Jasper defense, is loaded with athletes, but they just run up the field, and put themselves out of position, especially in the first half of the CS game.

Not worried just curious just remember all the hype leading up to that game and was a major disappointment  especially  with pg looking like  Baylor of old throwing it all over them

They made several line up changes, and adjustments since WOS game, prob enough to give PG, or WOS fits, but not enough for this one? A lot of very athletic kids , but some very young, couple others first year to play football. This team was hurt by lack of off season more than others for those reasons. I just hope this whole thing don't get shutdown before we finish playoffs, due to the increases of virus.

But do they have coaches that athletes dream about?

I'm sure there coaches and kids deal with a lot of problems in life and school , that burbs and country kids don't? If there was ever a place that someone could or wanted to make a difference, the inner city athletics might be the place. Just making sure kids have rides back and forth to workouts and practice, or getting a good meal that day, or maybe just picking a team, and going and sitting in their stands.

Good news siLsbee fans! if yall win this one it's 100% guaranteed Carthage. Gatesville forfeited due to Covid19 issues.

Carthage now has to rest players a week a longer  with extra week of practice on game plan before they get any action. Just may work out to yall advantage.  🤔😲😉

Tigers were looking forward to Gatesville ah shucks
