I'm actually a United fan that's followed Silsbee football closely the last 12 or so years.  And I agree with you that  there are some Silsbee fans that are delusional... for the most part, most are well knowledgable and nice people,  at least from my experiences.   Have a blessed kickoff week!  ✌️😎

As we move on from this non argument, Tiger fans should be more concerned with the New Supt, principle, teachers, and counselors, big turn over this year. It may be fine, might not. Takes a village , including parents, to make a long playoff run, everybody working together to keep the kids on the field. That's a big part of WSO, and Newtons success. Now lets play some Football!

Looking at my statement in a negative way Soulja...

    I personally think it’s a good thing.

Do I think the position is in jeopardy?  No.

Do I think it matters that a Foster has shown some struggles? Yes.

Do I think it pushes Foster to take the next step? Yes.

My “thought process” is one that I don’t believe it will sink in til after the PNG game.

    Though, I am hopeful.

Did not see 2nd scrimmage, but Foster played better than you think. Receivers doing there own thing and not running there proper routes, makes QB look worse than it should. Against Vidor receiver taking wrong angle on screens, you can see on film ,twice should have been touchdown. Just youth, will get better.

Been told Briscoe is a defensive starter, so that should settle your QB debate, for now

He’s gonna have big shoes to fill!! Coach Howard did wonders with those kids!

I wish him luck, Tarkington looks like a nice area to live, at least compared to Cleveland. But you need athletes ? Howard was able to keep the scores down running his version of the slot T, if new guy comes in and trys to open it up and run the spread, They will be loosing by 100 instead of 50.

I 100% agree. Not playing well usually is directly related to key matchups and style of play. Newton didn't do much different than they do every week.  Several passes where dropped but you can't blame that on play calling. EB has a great defense, period. They have a boring, clock consuming grind it out offense. But very effective.  Newton has a great offense and a great defense that will normally result in a lot of points. I congratulate EB on their play and their season. Newton has another week. And I'll pretty much guarantee, they are a better team due to EB.  Even the people that are making derogatory statements about Newton's play would have never  predicted yesterdays game outcome.  My lesson learned is, Newton is human after all.

Havnt you figured it out, on this board, when a teams scheme works, its good players, when the scheme doesn't it 's bad Coaching. lol

  5. Couple of things Cuero got by with all night, which IMO, made the difference in the game. There Defense simulating the snap count, they only got called once, but did it all night. It caused Tigers to have sev Procedure pen. Second thing, when Cuero ran the P.R.O. plays, there lineman were 8 to 10 yards down the field, Refs never called it. Safeties will move up to stop the run when this happens and Cuero throws completions. Lineman are suppose to stay within three yards of line of scrimmage on pass plays.

Be interesting to see if Refs allow them to do this next week at AT&T

Hmm tough one there.  I didnt like the going for it on 4th down at midfield in the first half or the fake punt from our own 20 with about 4 mins left.  Other than that  i liked or was ok with most of the rest.  Didnt like so many plays up the middle at times.  Bunched a bunch of those together.

Fake punt on the 20, at end of the game, kid did on his own, sad part is , other players didnt know he was going to run or they might have been able to block enough for him to make it. Surprised he tried that with his back hurting like it was ? He told coach after game , he was just trying to help out his team. I guess he got caught up in the moment? FYI, He did the exact same thing in the district game with WOS, on his own ,but was successfull, i guess he thought he could do it again?

Maybe so, our first one may have been partially blocked, either way it was a miss.  Then we went for 2 which they got.  Never got to try to kick another. 0-3 on 2 pt conversions.   And that was the difference.  They got 2 and we missed out on the other 5 pts from the tries(1 kick and the other 2 pt tries).

Tigers kicker was hurt, from WOS game, It was taking him over 1.6 sec to kick extra point, thats why first one was blocked. I was told JV kicker moved, they tried other kids, but when pressed to kick under 1.5 sec, they were only 50/50 making it. Then you throw in the fact #3 is very good at blocking kicks for Cuero.  Only option go for two, Running back made one , Refs didnt give it to us. Threw interception on another, Running back hit wrong hole on another.

This discussion has been had before.  2nd biggest school in the district (5,654 kids) finished dead last. Your point is invalid. Here are their district enrollments and their district standing:

    District 9
    6664      Allen                      -    7-0
    5342.5   Plano East            -     5-2
    2975      Prosper                 -     5-2
    2969      McKinney              -     4-3
    5197.5      Plano                 -     4-3
    2834      McKinney Boyd     -     2-5
    2234      Dallas Jesuit         -     1-6
    5654      Plano West           -     0-7

If we used your logic, then why would we have any divisions? 5000 kids in Dallas area, might be different to pick from than 5000 kids in west texas? Say for example , we combined Newton, WOS and Silsbee, but still played 4a div11, that would be the same as having Allen with double the enrollment of teams in their district.

  9. Only problem I have with Allen is the size of their school . UIL should have some sort of cap on numbers in the 6a div 1 level ,so that a school like this would have to split up, and make another school. I think it would be more fair. Or make a 7a div and they can win State by default. lol

I hear there will be competition at the QB position next year. They have another sophomore who didn't play this year but will be back his Jr year. He is darn good, . and not to mention freshman briscoe. Who is a better passer than Foster. Just a little skiddish. Nothing more playing time wont cure. And they both can run and pass.. Not trot.

What Sophomore who didnt play this year? Freshman is gonna b good , but needs experience.  Foster is young also, as he grows into a young man, he is just gonna get better. The success and experience from this playoff run is gonna be invaluable, just needs a lot of positive backing , and continue buying into what their doing.

Besides your Not Trot comment, might be a bit personable on here about a kid.

Most people saw a fumble, but it was a last ditch attempted throw, probably to not lose as many yards and keep the ball at the line of scrimmage.  That's why the refs huddled.  To see if it was intentional grounding or not...

I think the intention was to run it at least, back to the line of scrimage, not change direction and lose yards, then play defense. Kicker/Punter hurt his back during that bobbled extra point, and played the rest of the game in severe pain. I think coaches were leary of his ability to mabey handle a bad snap to punt. I thought he made couple good punts earlier deep in Tiger territory , for as cripple as he was?

Personally, this game should have been played last night. Neither coach wanted to play last night.

As for Saturday, I have heard three different stories.

I think it's a little crazy to be playing tonight.

Your right neither coach wanted to play Thursday due to banged up kids from game before, but I talked to Tiger coach thurs morn, and he had been on the phone twice that morn with CT, and CT did not want to change the game , as he thought main part of the front with lightning would push through after the game, so the game was left sched as was. But after arriving at the stadium Friday afternoon with players and Band , WOS coaches wanted to change the game to Sat. I guess they realized at this time it was really gonna rain. Tiger coach said NO, he wasnt making fans and kids make the trip twice.Yes a Sat game would have been great, but this is how it developed.

Yes, I'm a self professed kool aid drinker.  I entertained the notion that Silsbee had a good chance against Carthage last year.  The 64 points Carthage scored in the first half convinced me that I had been a trifle over optimistic.

You've got to figure this is different.  Silsbee does have a shot based on past performance.

Dont think it was 64 at half, but felt like it. lol.   There were a lot of teams a bit trifle optimistic going into their Carthage games last year, that left disappointed, all the way to AT&T.

Before I give my analysis, I do want to hear what the guy that was pulling for Giddings have to say.... I also want to know what those coaches that talked about Silsbee have to say now...

I think there was resentment among the Giddings Coaches due to the fact they heard more talk around town, school, and articles in our paper, about hometown Giddings boy Silsbee Coach Smith and his accomplishments, than there outstanding job they did with an over achieving group of Giddings kids. I can understand there frustration, but this is a small town , and they just have to remember they are new here and Smith and family have deep roots here. I do know Giddings head Coach upset after the game, he did not like the fact that Silsbee waited till the last play to kneel the ball , but he had two timeouts left, and Silsbee just running the ball? #94 for Giddings was punching Silsbee players after every play of last series. Silsbee players stayed calm considering. #94 and #22 for Giddings both cussed the Silsbee Coaches out after the game. As proud as I was of the Giddings program, playing hard and not giving up, this was an embarrassment to our community.

Rain chances have dropped off to 10%.  It will be about 70 Deg. at game time. Conditions favor the better team.  But which team is better?

The internet staff at Dave Campbell's has already written Silsbee and WOS off.  Three out of the four staff writers are taking Jasper over Giddings in Region III.  They have Jasper ranked No. 1 in 4A Div II and they have Giddings ranked at No. 6 in the last regular season poll.  But they write off Giddings and Jasper as well and they all predict that Cuero will beat Pleasant Grove for the 4A Div II championship.

Silsbee and WOS of course are nowhere to be found.  In the statewide chatter Silsbee is pretty much a non-entity.  Our two dazzling wins were outliers played against other also rans and as soon as we face highly ranked competition it's adios Tigers.

The Giddings coaches know that their boys are ranked in the middle of the top 10 and have a good shot at the semifinals.  And they know that Silsbee is fair team and to be taken seriously, but really not in their league.  (anyway I hope they know those things)

I guess I just better go ahead and book my Motel room in San Antonio for the Giddings / Cuero game, cause you know the internet staff at Dave Cam. knows what there talking about. But shouldn't get to excited cause inspite of the internet Nerds, The kids on the field might have something to say about the outcomes of the games tonight?

Unless you know whats going on in the enter workings of these teams , ( WOS, Silsbee) from beg of season till now, I can see where you might not take them serious?

Keep in mind, this is coming from a random poster who said "talking to Giddings fans, coaches are...."

This is like 4th word of mouth lol I wouldn't take it seriously.

Might be a random poster, but just passing on what is being said around town. Plus half the stuff I heard, is in an article in our local paper, I'm sure Giddings staff is taking a 3d round game serious, but they do have an air of extreme confidence .

Besides I got this thread going again , after being dead for a while. lol

  17. Talking to the Giddings fans, and according to the Coaches, they are real confident of an easy win. Concerned about the Silsbee speed on Defense, but Def C. says only thing Silsbee does on offense is throw the deep ball, and if they can shut that down, Silsbee has no other scoring threats. He said O line is not very good, running backs are not a factor. Looks like Silsbee gets lucky with a big play now and then, and will score with special teams. Just dont see how an 8-4 team can beat a 11-1 team. G-Town fans are fired up, Just another notch on the way to AT&T Jerry World.

And like I said go ahead and book Lamar and Texan drive for next week depending on the outcome of silsbee and giddings

According to someone in the Silsbee / Giddings thread, Giddings is playing Quero in semifinals in the Alamodome fri 14th. So you might as well cancel this game .lol Unless Barbay needs to audition for next years Newton job?
