  1. I am wondering since we are all going to watch, where are you watching it at. I am one of only a small handful of guys from my church that likes this stuff so I usually have to either go solo at home on PPV or I like to go to Bayou City Wings in Baytown to watch, usually because Buffalo Wild Wings is too crowded and you can't get in unless you are there two hours ahead of time. Where are you guys watching the fights at?
  2. I think that the Bonnar fight could potentially end up being the fight of the night just because of his style. he loves to bang away but has good submissions also. Plus Coleman is a beast, very strong man with lots of power punches and ground and pound. But I think Bonnar is way quicker. I also watched a Belcher fight last night and I am changing my pick for his fight, Akiyama. BTW, who is this guy speveto who just showed up and started making dumb posts on threads from months ago?
  3. He does not mean the greatest 100 fight show but the Countdown to UFC 100 that came on after. I posted on the other thread that I kind of came away disliking both Lesnar and Mir. Mir was way to smug for my taste and Lesnar making the comment about how he does not respect any opponent is kind of lame. But I will be watching on the edge of my barstool.
  4. BTW, is it just me or did both Mir and Lesnar come off a little less than desirable on the countdown show? I mean Lesnar made the comment that he does not respect anyone he faces, which I think if he meant it then he is a punk. I mean Randy Couture and the other fighters who have paved the way for him to just walk in with only his name as a fan draw(yes I know he was a great wrestler in college). You can respect your opponents without being a coward. Mir was just talking down about him and his lack of experience being rather childish looking. I know that the tv gets both of them to play up certain things to get the other guy going because it makes for good tv spots but really they both in my opinion came off different than I expected. But I will still be sitting at the bar an hour before the fight to make sure I get a seat, my wife got pissed at how much our DTV bill was last month when I purchased 99 in HD so I am heading to Bayou City Wings.
  5. My bad I had just read an article about Shane Carwin and got the names flipped.
  6. Both are very well deserved. I think that from the way that Mask promoted MMA the UFC, as well as other organiztions, owe much of their success to him and his co-owners. They helped to make MMA fun and while they started off as an underground phenomenon it grew quickly. Liddell will come back and fight again though I bet.
  7. OK this is really corny but the fans are the real winners because this is a great card. Belcher Fitch Henderson in a close one GSP in a really close one Lesnar, but I want Mir to win but think Brock is too freaking strong and won't make the same mistake of giving up a limb, but if he does Mir will look to break it. Now I am hopeful that Mir can have as good a standup night as he did against Minotauro. On the undercard I think that Bonnar wins in a close one against Carwin.
  8. Basically just reloading the gun so to speak.
  9. What is funny is I remember this same thread being started oh, about two years ago and the same things were being said then. Different schools but basically the same things. We can all speculate and do our thing, but when it comes down to it the UIL will do what they think is best regardless of what we like. I know that the statements I made earlier are based on information from 4-5 people in both Goose Creek and Humble ISD who work with the numbers and what their opinions about realignment but even they could be wrong.
  10. I found it very odd listening to the announcers talking about how Kim grew up pretending he was Tiger draining putts to win the Masters and stuff like we used to do about Palmer and Jack. I know he is the man and all but it is wierd to hear it like that because I am not that much older than he is and he is already a legend. he will end up going way further than Snead did, he is only 14 wins away from that record and only 33, turns 34 in December. heck he could beat Jack's numbers by the end of the year if he keeps going like this year.
  11. Summer Creek only plays JV for one year not two and Kingwood Park will not be a 5A.
  12. I heard a coach from Hardin talking at a gas station and someone asked them that same question, he said something to the effect that the company building it is under contract to get it done by then or they get some kind of discount or something to that effect.
  13. Don't see all three Baytown or Humble schools going to 4A, but I might be wrong. I think we'll lose Livingston and add Dayton and/or BH in 20-4A Central Ozen Lumberton Vidor LCM PNG Nederland Dayton BH The information I got about this is from people who work in the district offices at both school districts and Goose Creek people actually have said that the move to 4A for them has been a long time coming, people apparently are not really moving there. The people in Humble said something to the effect that KP will never be a 5A, as long as they have something to say about it while Kingwood will stay 5A as much as they can and that Humble will move down. Their plan is to have three 4A schools and two 5A schools. That may be longer in the making than the Goose Creek schools will though. I had forgotten about the two New Caney schools being 4A also that makes twelve within reasonable driving distance and Livingston is not that far from them. Should be interesting as always.
  14. Yeah but that was before CroCop stuck it to him. I think that right now Dana feels, and rightfully so, that the UFC is the place to be and he is the guy who everyone has to make their deals with. i would not be suprised to see him back without going through TUF, but I would not be suprised if he did have to go through it somehow also.
  15. Based on statements from coaches in both Goose Creek and Humble ISD there will be quite a few new 4A's in the Houston area. I have been told by coaches in both school districts that the following schools are all going to be 4A but Summer Creek is not competing in varsity level competition the first year. That could be ten teams not counting them that are all reasonably close to each other so who knows. Baytown Lee Baytown Sterling Goose Creek Memorial Dayton Barbers Hill Crosby Kingwood Park Humble (this is from a Humble coach who told me they were dropping) Summer Creek North Forest CE King
  16. Considering the district that you are talking about I would start with the stadium that North Forest plays on, talk about an eye sore. I would put BH's stadium on the same level (with exception of the field turf) as Crosby. You ever think that they don't increase the visitor side on purpose? But the field turf is something that I am suprised that they have not done already.
  17. Bottom line is that in today's society we have too many kids who are being raised in atmospheres that will not give them the tools later on in life to help them fight through adversity. Kids are allowed to sit inside all day long, regardless of what time of year it is. I understand how kids in some situations in this recent heat wave may stay inside more. But they don't go out and take part in anything physical. Case in point, we took my daughter to Lake Tejas a couple of weeks ago and there was this little boy who came with his parents who was probably about 5-6. My daughter is 9. This kid had fat rolls all over his body and was breathing hard climbing the stairs to the little baby slides like you would have in a swimming pool. Now my wife and I are both over weight and big people but we don't let our kid get that way and we are trying to lose weight for ourselves and her. Today's parents are more concerned with material things for their kids instead of teaching them life lessons. I believe that the reason why we have kids who seemingly more often these days are falling out from heart conditions and other issues is that parents are feeding the kids crap at home, the kids don't get much exercise at the development years and so when they are old enough to play sports in school they are out of shape and then you throw in the liberal mindset of most the school district boards and it is a lose lose situation. I actually heard a coach one day a few weeks back tell a group of men in our church that you can't coach the boys like we used to when we were their age because they can't take that kind of intensity so we have to modify our approaches. I say that I understand that times do change and you have to adapt but when schools change this way it is only hurting the kids in the long run. Man did I wak up in a mood or what?!
  18. I saw a show on Golf channel last night that showed how Bethpage looked 5 years before the first one in 2002 and how much work it took to get it into shape. Pretty interesting.
  19. I have a friend who played for Celina and then later on came to coach there during the championship run they had. He always talks about how they may not always have the biggest or strongest or fastest kids but the kids that they did have worked hard and had a true desire to be known as being the best not in Celina but in the state. I remember that my own coaches in high school telling us when we were in JH about to enter HS that it is okay to win things like All District awards and get patches and stuff but if you can put a ring on that finger it would speak volumes to pretty much anyone you meet.
  20. I am betting that the only way he gets back in is through TUF, just like he said about Sylvia. Right now is Andrei's time to decide to humble himself before Dana or go on to other things. Depends on what he wants the most, and don't expect White to be to eager after the Cro Cop deal.
  21. I am not ever going to play in Huffman again at the Sanctuary. Could be a very nice little course but they are not taking care of the grass at all. The fairways are all like hitting off of concrete, very few places on any fairways with decent, healthy turf to hit off of. The greens are extremely soft but they are full of weeds that are growing every which way and then getting rolled down. I was highly disappointed in it, because the last time I had played there (about two or three years ago) it was in good shape, but I know that they have changed owners a couple of times also. I also want to warn anyone who goes to play at Eagle Point in Mont Belvieu. My buddy went there and played by himself a couple of weekends ago. He had a 4:00 tee time and they were so crowded that he sat there until nearly 4:35 waiting to hit on the first hole. They book tee times throughout the day about 15 minutes apart but did not have enough carts, and that is one course that would be hard to walk. He said that there was a backup on every single hole from about 7 on. It took him over three hours to just play the first 11 holes and he ended up just going home and not finishing. I know that when you play public courses you run into stuff like this and I have seen it at more than just Eagle Pointe so it was not a bash session on them necessarily. But what would be so hard for these public courses, especially on the weekends, to spread the tee times 20 minutes apart and then actually have the guy working the pro shop to actually call out the times or have something in place where you can't tee off without checking in first. I know that the country clubs do this and I have been to other public courses other places that make it mandatory on weekends to tee off and even saw one course that would not allow you to tee off until the group in front of you was on the green putting. That made at least a more manageable day for the entire group. Plus, if you are in a group of 3 or more don't hit more than one ball of the tee. I was playing the other day and this threesome sees me come up on the box while they are hitting and both of the guys hit cruddy shots off the tee and then just stare at me while they tee up another ball. Then they both just drive around looking for their bad first shots, spending way over the 5 minute rule of searching for the ball. I mean I am not a great golfer but can play decent when I can get a good pace going and stuff like this just throws you off.
  22. Oh and I read through all of Chazz's ramblings. That dude is stupid. I was a wrestler and have coached it and know for a fact that these guys cut weight. Now I don't know if Silva is cutting nearly 40 pounds to make 185 like you suggested but he is definitely walking around on fight day bigger than 185, when he fought James Irvin he was every bit as big as Irvin was and Irvin is not a small 205 pounder. Silva probably walks around normally abour 210 or so and then cuts down to 185. Like I said I did 11 pounds in a day, it sucked but it can be done. Reinhold needs to get a clue. Yes he is right about not backing an arguement with a forum discussion, but I have known wrestlers and boxers both who admitted to me that they cut weight to make a class. The thing is that if you are taking Anderson Silva for example. Silva is probably at about 200-210 with a body fat % pre-fight of around 10-12%. What he will then do is start cutting out some of the foods he needs to to lower his body weight slowly while drinking tons of water. Then he can get his weight down to around 195 about 3-4 weeks out and only have to take off 9 pounds to make the weight class which he can do easily in a day if need be. If weight cutting was not something that these fighters all do and most walk around at much bigger weights than the general public realize then look at the reality show TUF. The guys on that show are constantly having to sit in the sauna in the rubber suits to make weight. Does every fighter do it, no. A lot of them don't have to make drastic cuts but the fighters who feel like they can have an advantage over their opponent by say walking around at 205 and then cutting at the last minute water weight and making 185, then rehydrating the entire day and up to the fight and then entering the cage close to 20 pounds heavier and stronger then they will. It is the same mentality as athletes who use performance enhancers.
