1. Good comments, Slam14.  I have not seen anything at a game either.  I guess my point is five varsity players all leaving the program over something that does not involve basketball bothers me.  None quit over lack of playing time. 2 were starters. Very few coaches will be liked by everyone. I understand that. But how can a program build when the best players keep leaving? And yes, there are incidents of embarrassing kids at practice and halftimes that have caused the ruckus. I won't post the details, only to say if the comments were made to your 15/16 year old daughter, you would be pissed. I just think it is dumb to run off your best players.
2. Charlie Wilson has been coaching a girls BB team in Louisiana. ( Comuting from Lumberton.) If the position were to open, I think he would be open to return. Beats driving an hour one way to work!  He still has a good relationship with LISD. Last time I spoke to him, Gholson says he will be here next year.  Like other districts, Lumberton will be cutting salary as much as possible.  Who knows what can happen when the cutting starts. 2012 contracts are approved in March, I think. Loudmouth asked-"Where did this start?"  There have been complaints to the school board about the number of varsity players that have quit the program in the past 9 months.(5 players) In fact one player that quit is the daughter of a school board member. There were some heated words exchanged. The players that left the program all cited pretty much the same reason for quitting. They did not like the way the coach treated them. My take, as a parent has been to tell my daughter to toughen up, listen for the message being said. NOT the WAY it is being said. ( And I admit that I may be wrong. ) Gholson knows his basketball, practices the players hard. Which is good. But there is most certainly a problem with the way the kids are being treated. You don't have to embarrass a player to get 100% out of them.  I believe that players play harder for a coach that they respect and like. That respect is a two way street. Players these days don't take well to the Bobby Knight treatment. They will say "screw this" and quit. Does this sort of thing even come up at Orangefield or Hardin Jeff, or Barbers Hill?  Seems like the players actually LIKE their coaches at the more successful programs.  However it shakes out, Lumberton needs it's best players on the team.  Can a coach change?
3. I agree with you, Slam.  In the first half the fouls were heavily called against the Lady Raiders. (something like 11-4) As a biased Lady Raider fan, I would have the opinion that some of those first half calls were in the phantom category.  ;D ( My daughter had 3 of those in her 5 minutes.) In the 2nd half the fouls were more evenly called, but there WERE a ton of "no-calls" both ways. It was like a different referee crew came out for the 2nd half. The game was way more physical than the first half. But I have to say that I have seen that lots of times in basketball. I don't have a clue why. Maybe some of our referee posters can help us out with their opinions.
4. Maegan hit some clutch free throws in the 4th quarter. She did not look nervous at all. Great job Lady Raiders.
5. Rules smules. Stop the game. Get medical attention. The child's injury comes first.
6. Anyone know how Jasper has been doing?  Lumberton heads up that way Friday. Played them in a scrimmage a few weeks ago, but I think they still had a few players in VB at that time.
7. Lumberton Lady Raiders scrimmaged East Chambers Thursday night. Won by about 6 points.   Last Saturday at Silsbee they played Kountze, Silsbee and Jasper, winning all three. Only 8 players on the varsity roster at this time. 2 seniors.  Good luck this season  girls!
8.
Here are the Livingston-Lumberton scores.  Livingston wins! 25-18 25-20 25-19
Lumberton Girls- There is no shame in losing to a very good team! And Livingston is very good!  Keep your heads up, keep working hard, and go for the next one!
9. Friday night the Ozen Lady Panthers came to Lumberton to play the Lady Raiders in front of a packed gym. Last week in the YMBL these two teams had 2 great games with each team winning once. Friday Ozen took the first two games by close scores, then Lumberton took the 3rd and 4th games. In the 5th game Lumberton dominated with a 15-4 score. The entire Lady Raider team contributed to the win with the entire bench getting in the action. All of the games were exciting and fun and both teams showed good sportsmanship in the heated matches. Congrats for a big win.
10. For some reason on Friday the Saturday brackets were changed from what was printed out. Lumberton beat Ozen in pool play, but had to play them again Saturday morning at Ozen. Lumberton won first game, Ozen won 2nd game and third game was 25-23. (with a controversy over a changed call by officials late in the match) When brackets were changed, it went from double elim to single, so the Lady Raiders were done. Nowhere could I find a copy of the newly redone bracket. Why Lumberton had to play a team that they beat in pool play, I still don't understand. I have heard that the YMBL tourn was run poorly in past years, and now I see why.
11. Lumberton downed Ozen 2-1 and North Forest 2-0 in pool play this morning.
12. Just got it from the coach. It is a kinda complicated bracket. Lots od schools.  Lumberton pool games are at WB Thursday at 9 and 10:15.
13.
One of the best young ball players I have seen in years. What a loss for Lumberton and a tremendous gain for HF. This kid has everything to going for her. Is she great, ABSOLUTLEY! She will definitely be an asset to the HF program. Major colleges are scouting her and she is only in Jr. High School. I feel for the competition when she gets a couple more years under her belt.
I think we is being messed wid.... ;)
14. I do not believe he said anything publicly.
15. Lumberton girls had a good showing also. Got 6 games in 48 hours (3-3) and ended up 2nd place overall losing the championship game to Bmt Central. All Tournament from Lumberton were Haley Jones and Erin Miller. All 8 girls made important contributions at different times and showed some promise for the upcoming year. Congrats to the team.  And thanks to ex player Courtney Wilson and her sister Cara for coaching the girls.

There is a player transferring from Lumberton Middle School and will be a Freshman at HF. She is a solid guard, but I would not use the word great yet.(Gotta earn that title.) Her dad is not happy with the Lumberton program.    Anyone know who the new HF coach will be?
The dad is probably transferring the student to HF because of it's academic reputation and athletics second.
I am just saying what he told me. Didn't mention academics. But HF is a terrific district.
