1. Don't forget that soccer competitive tryouts are this week at Lamar field.  As far as times go, I know that the U16 up girls tryouts are Tuesday and Thursday. 8:30 to 10:00 I believe. I can post other times if anyone needs it.
2. I believe she was a former Lady Raider player? Recently coached the varsity softball team and freshman basketball. Congrats! And here is wishing you the best.
3. Congrats to Lumbertons Ashley Braddock for being selected to play in this game! Good luck Ashley! Any other local players going?
4. I heard that the coaching job has officially been posted. In addition to looking in house, applications from outside the district are also being considered. I think that is a good thing. Not that the in-district coaches that are applying are not good candidates for the job, but it is always best to have a broad selection of applicants to choose from.  Good luck to all involved. The names floating around so far are- Nikki Goad Mike Mayheaux Coach Gerlofson Josh Mitchell Anyone hear of others interested? Coach Wilson returning, maybe? Someone told me Ricky Jacks of Vidor, but I am speptical about that one. He seems to have something good going at Vidor. And I doubt we pay better. Last time LISD hired a girls BB coach, it was kind of a mid-Summer hiring. So I doubt they are in a hurry. But for parents it is interesting to follow.
5. No prob, Slam.    Thanks for your input on these boards. Throw another name in the hat. Coach Gerlufson(I hope I spelled it right.) I think he has been coaching boys Freshman team. I do not know him personally.  I hope that whomever we end up with as girls head coach will get support from parents and community.  The program need re-building. As we have found out, the coach cannot do it alone. The players cannot do it alone. The parents cannot do it alone. It takes all working toward the same goal.  Best of luck.
6. "You havent really thrown any daggers YET" ? WTF? Coach Gholson is not even a part of this conversation. I wish him and his family the best with wherever he coaches next year. He is a good man with a beautiful family. All of the teachers that lost their jobs deserve prayers. This thread was started by Slick as a discussion about who might be the new girls coach at Lumberton. His daughter plays and it is a good question for a parent to ask. The girls athletic program at Lumberton has had a problem for a few years. It is a valid discussion. I went back and looked at the thread about "Lumberton Girls Coach" , and I don't see where I posted any "rumors" about Coach Gholson. It was actually a good discussion about how tough a high school coach should or should not be. Isn't this is exactly what these forums are for?  Just asking.
7. Slam, I would like to know what I posted here that "downs" anybody?  The players and parents are interested in who might be coaching next year. That is all I have seen on here.
8. I have heard from the players that they believe Coach Nikki Goad would like to change over from softball to girls basketball head coach. She has coached the Freshman girls BB team for several years, so she has experience.  I also heard from Coach Mike Mayeaux at the Jr High, that he may speak with Coach Credeur about the job.  My older daughter had him for two years awhile back as JR high basketball coach. He is a tough coach with experience coaching girls.  Whoever the new coach is, I wish them the very best of luck. I believe many of the players that left the program this year will return.
9. When we went back out after lightning delay, the Lady Raiders really took it to them. Coulda won it there. Had some good opportunities that the Lady Hornets GK took away. We had them on tilt and were doing a good job on the attack. We had some nice thru balls that put us 1v1 with their GK during the game. Like I said, the GK was pretty good. The Lady Raider defense played awesome. GK Makenzie Watts had some nice saves. Katie Evans was very solid in the midfield. Overall throughout the game I thought the Lady Raiders out played them and would get one in at any second. But I do have to scratch my head over why we had 2 fullbacks taking the penalty shots in the shootout instead of forwards/offensive players. (Of course my kid is a forward, so I have my predjudice.) The only thing I can think of is that he chose the players that do the best at the shootout in practice. I just would think forwards work so much on just that sort of situation, that they would be better suited for penalty kicks. Start with best offensive player (Stowe) and then 2nd best, etc.  Anyway, congrats to the players and coaches on a fine season. It has been a blast watching the games as a parent. I look forward to next season!
10. Bring a lawn chair. The stands are kinda small at the Lamar Soccer field.
11. Thanks for that info, Rebel2. I knew that steel trap mind would remember the details! Anyway, congrats to Coach Hopson and the girls for continuing a very nice tradition of playing very good soccer! Good luck in the playoffs!
12. Actually, Coach, I believe that this is 6 straight district championships for the ladies. Paula Waller won two before she left the program. Way to go Lumberton soccer!
13. The Lumberton Lady Raider Soccer team puts its 8-0 district record on the line today in their final home game of the year VS 7-1 Hardin Jefferson. 5 PM kickoff! Should be a good one! Last time out was a 2-0 overtime win by Lumberton.
14. Saw an ambulance going to the field about 9:15 Friday night. I hope nobody was hurt badly?
15.

Did I miss the Girls All District team for 20 4A?    ???
No word yet. I'm waiting on it also.
Wrong 4A District. I am looking for the one with Ozen, Central, Nederland, etc. Isn't that 20-4A? But I am interested in both districts. I hav seen nothing on either one.
16. Did I miss the Girls All District team for 20 4A?    ???
17. I wonder if the game is re-scheduled for later date? Or marked as a forfeit?
18.
Where did Gholson coach before Lumberton?
Mount Enterprise for a year or two. Don't know before that.
19. I think boys take the yelling, butt chewing, and cursing differently than girls do. I also don't think it is needed very often. If you are having to yell and scream all the time, you are not doing a very good job teaching in the first place.
20.
6 kids quit in 2 years? Unless you're talking about football.. And assuming the work outs aren't army-like, there seems to be a common issue there..
6 varsity players in 9 months. Nothing to do with basketball, playing time, or hard workouts. One was a Senior with two weeks left in the season. The common issue was treatment by the coach.
21. Looks like Lady Raider varsity will scrimmage the Freshman boys at home at 4PM. Dang, I hate this happening to Silsbee. Especially this early in district.
22. I also would like to say that we can all post here and gripe and complain. Thats what these boards are for. But we need to be careful in calling for someone to be fired. You are talking about someones job. Putting groceries on the table is serious business. Be certain before you complain to a school board or AD about what you feel is a problem with a coach. Thats why sometimes I like to come on here and cuss and discuss with other parents, coaches, etc before I make up my mind about things.  There are some nuts, but there are some smart old hands on here too. Ideally here at L-Town, it would be great if our coach could recognize the problem. Maybe a heart to heart with his AD and make an effort to improve his temper.  There have been discusions with him about it. But I do not believe he sees it as a problem. Which is a shame. Because like I said, they guy knows his X's and O's. The question is will there be any players left to coach?
23. Just got a text from daughter saying the Friday game vs Silsbee has been cancelled due to Silsbee does not have enough players?  I hope this is not true. Anyone from Silsbee know whats going on?  Where are the girls?
24. Slam14- You are mistaking me for for my good buddy with twin freshmen daughters.  ;D Thats a compliment. My daughter is a little older. Has played for Coach Gholson for two years. Solo and Slam-Thanks for the comments and good advice.  I agree with you both for the most part. You can't let a coach run you off. That's why I told my daughter to suck it up. She loves playing basketball. I have no doubt in that. But I also doubt she will play next season for this coach. She will play the sports that she gets the most enjoyment from. She will make up her mind this Summer. Fortunately she is able to play pretty much any sport and do reasonably well. But I love watching her play BBall. At what point does "tough coach" turn into "verbally abusive a-hole"? Very few of these kids have aspirations to play beyond high school. Why should they be subjected to being told every single day how bad they suck? I understand being tough. But why be mean-spirited also? And yes Solo, there have been some parents that get overly involved and it transfers to the daughter/player. I have done my best to keep out of it. When my daughter has had a problem she has met with the coach on her own, without parents involved.  I was pretty proud of her for that actually. Thanks again for the comments and advice.
