1. Lumberton Girls.  Anybody got a schedule yet?  ???
2. Good luck with your new job and new surroundings, Julie. You had a heck of a run!
3. Any high school age girls that would like to tryout for our Div 2 team are encouraged to attend the mass tryout on June 8th and 10th. Times are 8:30 to 10:00 PM.  Location is at the Lamar Soccer Complex. Our team is called the Blue Heat, and is mostly comprised of Lumberton girls, but we are not limited to only Lumberton.  We compete locally thru BYSC, and travel to Houston in August for tournaments. We train with a local well known and respected trainer once per week, and practice with the coaches once per week. Since there will be so many players trying out at one time, I encourage you to contact me in advance, so that I know you are trying out for our team. I don't want to overlook a player that would like to join us! ALSO, if you cannot attend the tryouts, and would like to play on our team, please contact me. Just email or text me. Call if you have questions. Willie Miller  781-2058  [email protected]
4. APATHY is not limited to soccer. It is the same story with other sports as well. The players that love to play will show in offseason, but that number is dwindling in all sports. The word I hear from many young players is BURNOUT. And I guess I can understand where they are coming from. They wanna be kids. But as a club coach, it is hard to accept! It is a challenge to keep it interesting and fun, while still teaching! We gotta keep plugging away! While I am posting, I would like to say THANK YOU to Shark and Coach L for the extra time spent this Spring providing a place for the players to play. (At least the ones that wanna show!) The All Star game, and the small sided games ARE appreciated. You just may not hear it much.
5.
1. Central - Many athletes return from the most dominate squad in 20-4A.  Excellent coaching that seems to build great players.  2.  Livingston - Livingston has a strong coaching staff too, but also returns the best player in district in Daylyn Harris.  An extremely strong freshman group from last season will help the Lions push Central for the district crown.  3. Ozen - Should be competing for the third spot on sheer athletic ability alone.  4. LCM - Solid coaching that has lead the Bears to a playoff spot each of the last two seasons.  Good play from some key returning players will pave the way to another playoff apperance in 2011 for the Bears.  May possibly contest for a spot higher than #4 if some some young players mature early. 5. Lumberton - Wildcard - Always seem to have good "younger" teams, but the "W's" have not come easy at the varsity level recently. Turmoil in the system has not helped the rebuilding process. 6. Vidor - New coach - new system 7. PNG 8. Nederland
That is a pretty good analysis Slam14.
6. Kuddos to Coach Luttrell for taking his time to set this up. I think this is great. How about a girls game, too?  Maybe next year we can get a girls coach to set up a game.
7.
I don't understand people complaining about scores in soccer games.  If Central and Ozen girls, don't want to get beat 15-0, get better.  Ozen still presses in boys basketball with a 30 point lead.  If I was the Soccer coach, the score would be 35-0 against them, and if the soccer coach said anything, I would tell him to talk to the basketball coach about 'sportmanship'. As for my earlier post that was taken off, I persume for using someones name, I will again tell Fiveo'clocksomewhere he did a great job coaching the girls in club ball and had as much if not not more to do with Lumberton girls success as anyone.
Thanks for the kind words, Rebel. I have been lucky to have coached some really terrific young ladies. I can't say enough good about those players. And I was also fortunate to have team parents that were supportive. Now, if I could just figure out how to get my new group of parents onboard like the Fillies families were! As for blowouts- My  Freshman daughter plays basketball and soccer, so she gets it during basketball, then is able to dish it out some during soccer!  LOL  Really, I think the high school soccer coaches around here generally hold back on running up the score. I KNOW that Coach H at Lumberton held his team back in alot of games this year.
8. The reason there are not more S2 and D1 teams in this area is due to the travel time and expense involved. There are not enough parents and players willing to make that huge commitment. Especially if a player also plays other sports. And with $3 per gallon gas... I have coached girls teams here for years and some years ago the Houston teams would split with us. They would come here for half of the S2 and D1 games. That was in SSSC's heyday of 16 or 17 teams. When the Houston teams started making the Beaumont teams travel over there for every game, well that was when it got tough on the local parents footing the bill. For several years I tried to get a commitment from my team to make the drive. Now, I just try to provide them with the best coaching and training that I possibly can with local trainers and educating myself as best I can. I also enter my teams into Houston area tourneys as often as possible. Several of my D2 players have been good enough to play college. Some did, but most preferred to just be a student, instead of a student athlete. While there are some players that are looking to prepare for a college soccer career, the majority are simply wanting to be successful high school players.  And there is nothing wrong with that. It can be accomplished playing D2 and working hard. As a soccer guy, I too would love it if we could put more D1 teams together from this area. But reality is what it is.
9. Congrats to Coach Hopson, Coach Baker and the Lady Raiders on a successful year.
10. There is much love for Roo in L Town! All the former Fillies and their parents were cheering for her, much to the chagrin of the Lumberton fans sitting around them! LOL Personally, I have longtime connections to both teams. Not only did I coach players from both teams, but I kinda introduced Nederland Coach Julie Johnson to soccer way back in the day. I recruited her to play for a womens team that I coached back in the 80's. It was her first soccer playing experience. We remain friends today. Julie was a pretty good outside mid. But I could never get her to play defense worth a dang! LOL  Come to think of it, that womens team was named the Fillies also. OK, I just admitted to being a dinosaur. That's almost as old as Shark.
11. Congrats to the Nederland and Lumberton girls for giving 100 percent in the game. Like Shark said- It was the best four bucks you could have spent Friday! So what if Waco waxes Lumberton tonight. It has been a fun and exciting ride for the Lumberton players. They were supposed to be rebuilding. Instead they are in round 4. I am a Lumberton parent and have club coached most of the girls on Lumberton and several of the girls that are on the Nederland team.  I can tell you that these are all some terrific kids and they don't get nearly as bitter or P.O'ed about the game(s) as some of us fans do!  Awesome effort by both teams.
12. Does anyone know the current standings for the local girls districts?
13. It seems that there is too much paperwork involved in issuing cards.  ::)
14. Congrats and great job!  Like you said Brian, memories for a lifetime were made.
15. CONGRATS! To Coach Arendale and the boys!  Good luck Saturday! Willie Miller
16. Just got an email reply from Coach Gholson. He is not going anywhere. Good for him. And good luck next year to him and the returning players.
17. I could not find it posted anywhere. I asked the HS principal and he knows nothing about it. I emailed coach and no reply yet. I think it would be a shame if he quits. The guy worked his tail off to make these girls better players. Did I agree with every coaching decision? No. But I am not at every practice seeing what he sees. It's easy to sit in the stands and play coach. But no way did he deserve the crap that came his way.  Yelling at the coach from the stands, and anonymous emails telling the coach he sucks are just plain wrong. And thats not to mention the coach/parent/AD meetings asking about playing time. I would not blame him for bailing out. But I hope he does not. Also, district 20 AAAA was a very tough district this year. Even some of the great players we had in past years would have struggled this season.  Coaches can grow and improve too. Learning how to handle parents can be a tough lesson for a young coach. Whatever happens with the coach, the parents have got to back off some next year.
18. Which coaching jobs board? The school usually does not post those jobs this early.
19.
Heard this job was open.  Anyone know the details about the job?  Good job or bad job?
Where did you hear this? I thought Coach Gholson was coming back.
20. Congrats Lady Raiders. Jasper is one of toughest district foes.
