1. Does anyone knw the score from the LCM-Vidor game last night?  If LCM won, they locked up 4th. If Vidor won, I think it throws a 4 way tie into play. (Lumberton beat PNG)
2.
Ok, I think I got it now.  The red card had nothing to do with the play.  It was due to the "altercation" after the play.  Correct?  Was there a foul called on the play?
Correct. But I thought both should have gotten reds. The refs talked about it forever, then awarded a PK.  The foul and first punch were by the Nederland player, but then the Lumberton player took a swing, and that got called.  I am not sure why the first foul was not called. I just figure since both players were equally at blame that there should not have been a PK. Especially with 23 seconds on the clock. If the ref had given yellows earlier in the game when he should have, it prolly would not have escalated to the point it did. There was an awful lot of rough play being allowed.
3.
I wouldn't think they would let her play again. This was not a punch during the middle of the game where you could say it was in the heat of the battle. This was premeditated. She looked for an opening and found it. If they excuse this it would be the worse possible signal to send to kids that try to play the game the right way. Now, I would not be surprised if this doesn"t help her get an administrative position at Ozen or within the BISD at a later date. It's never too early to work on that resume.. ;D
And it was a sucker punch from behind. Well, I hope she stays suspended, but I hear she is coming back on the team next week.
4. That's what I hear! I am not really sure I want my daughter on the court vs her, to be honest. I spent too much money for those straight teeth to have em knocked out! We play them Feb 5th. We'll see.
5.
It is my understanding ( I was not at the game ) that the Lumberton player received a Red and the Nederland player received a Yellow card.
You may be right. It was hard to tell. Both players left the field. And the referee, Matt Taylor, took an awful long time discussing it all with his AR. But both players took swings and at the other. Both should have been red carded. I guess the AR saw the retaliation from the Lumberton player, as she swung last. That is how it usually works. I was sitting next to a local soccer referee(A very senior official without a child on either team.) and he said the same as what I am telling you here. Should have been a drop ball. You don't call a PK with 23 seconds in a 0-0 game.  Especially when both players were equally at blame.
6. There was a minor fist fight between two girl players to end the Lumberton/Nederland game Friday night. I am surprised that there are no threads about it. I think there were two send offs. Then Nederland was awarded a PK with 23 seconds left in a 0-0 game. Both players were equally guilty in the fight. It should have been a drop ball.
7. They don't make near enough salary to put up with all of the drama here in Lumber City.
8. I think only 6 wins this year so far with a very young team. Also lost two sophomore starters with injury.  So I would say he has had a rough season. Parents have not made the season any easier for him. I guess that goes along with losing games. But from my point of view, he is doing the best he can with what he has. You can always find a way to second guess any coaching moves. I refuse to do that. (anymore!  ;D )
9. I dont know about the entire area, but at Lumberton, the best I have seen had to be Chelsea Pickering at guard, and Courtney Wilson at post. Pick is still playing for Idaho State and Courtney is playing somewhere also. I dunno where. Both were a lot of fun to watch.
10. Ozen has a history in the "B.S." department with girls basketball. Stuff that goes on there that would not be tolerated at other programs. Here is an example from 2006 when Lumberton played at Ozen. Ozen took an early lead and all was fine in the gym. When the Lumberton girls took the lead, a man in the Ozen crowd began yelling at one of the officials. (The white guy) After a few minutes, the other official, who happened to be black, stopped the game and came over and spoke to the school principal on duty. I was standing next to him. He asked the school official to remove the loud man from the gym, "because he is making threats to my co- official" were his exact words. The school guy says I will take care of it. he then walks over to the guy causing problems and gives him a high five. With a big smile on his face he talks a second and walks away, out of the building. Loud, obnoxious guy resumes his taunts. The Lumberton principal, his wife, and 10 year old daughter then decided to leave. When they walked past, loud guy says " Go on. Get your white a$$es outta here." I asked who the guy was, and was told his wife was a teacher at Ozen. The Lumberton principal's wife wrote a letter to BISD Superintendent and copied it to BMT Enterprise complaining about this treatment. To this day, she has never received a reply from BISD.  And Ozen just rolls along with some more scandal every so often. Now, every town has a few loud mouths at games, Lumberton included. But if an official asks, they are gone from the property immediately. For a contrast, Coach Fontenot at Central has put a darn good team on the floor, and you will never find a more courteous and polite bunch. And the same for the fans at Central. It is a classy program all around.
11.
Lumberton Girls - 4 Alumni - 1
I had the honor of coaching the Lumberton Girls Alumni. The alums were in better shape than I expected! Just not "soccer shape"! We only had 12 girls play. Although we did a great job of controlling the middle of the field, we did not finish well or mark up very well. Hats off to the Lady Raider Varsity. They did a great job against some girls that used to be very good players. Freshman Katie Evans and Junior Kacey Combest were like a wall on defense. And Juniors Katlyn Stowe and Stephanie Hernandez each had two solid goals. In the midfield, I kept noticing that we could not get around Junior Baylee Hart. She was all over the place! It was alot of fun for me to be on the field with many of my old "Fillies" players, and against many of my current "Blue Heat" players.    Shark, these Lumberton girls must have taken your training well... ;D
12. Oh! My bad!  ??? CONGRATS MIKE AND TEAM!  From Blue Heat  (Miller)
13. Congrats to the girls and Mike from BYSC Blue Heat. (Miller)
14. Congrats To Coach Duncan and the team. But I thought yall played hru SSSC?
15. As I type this, Lumberton is currently 2-0 in district. Def  LCM and Nederland.
16. Sorry to say, but Ozen has a history of unusually bad things involving their home girls basketball games and the administrators on duty.
17. I think their record is about 4-8 now. Lost all three games at YMBL. Had a third quarter lead in a couple of games, but just could not hold on. Sometimes it is a blast to watch them, and sometimes it is painful! The players are working very hard to improve. They are practicing like crazy. And personally, I think they are getting better each week.  But they are a very young team for the most part. As far as how the new guy ( Coach Gholson) is doing, I will wait and see how the entire season goes. Not just by wins/losses, but by how the players improve, and if the girls are able to come together play as a team, rather than as individuals. Team chemistry? I guess that's what you call it. And that part prolly depends more on the players than the coach. I give the coach credit for his enthusiasm and efforts. He is working hard, too. Sometimes the payoff for hard work takes a while to show itself...
18. BH vs Lumberton at 6 PM?  The rest of the games are much earlier.  But it will help Lumberton parents make it over after work! (even the delusional ones... ;)) Thanks to the scheduler if this is correct!
19. Delusional , You talking to me? Are you freaking kidding me? The Lumberton coach is struggling to do everything he can to get his team playing better. They are what, 1-6? Since I have a daughter on the team, and she was recently moved up to varsity,  I  take your comments as an insult to me personally as a parent. Especially since you decided to post them on this Kelly thread that I commented on. Sooo, if you are talking to me, here are a few FACTS for ya. My daughter was brought up to varsity against her wishes. She did not want to move up. Her mother and I did not want her to move up. She went to the coach and asked to be left down.  She was having a blast playing with her friends sub-varsity. Coach told her that she was obligated to play where he needed her to play.  Contrary to what you are implying, I had NO contact with the coach. Whining, or otherwise to have her moved up. You see, sometimes it is not all about "playing on varsity". She just wants to play  for the love of the game , whatever team it is does not matter. Now that she is on varsity a few days, she is getting some play time, the older girls are great to her, and she is doing fine. And the above applies to both the volleyball and basketball teams.( She went up to varsity on both.) If you have something to say to me in the future, why don't you come say it to my face? Because you don't have a freaking clue what you are talking about. You would rather sneak around and stir up crap over things you know nothing about. See you in the stands. Signed, The Freshmans' Dad, Willie Miller
20. What it is meant to say is that the girls are working as hard as anyone could possibly work. It doesn't mean anything negatively towards other teams. Just a compliment to the Lumberton team. Why on earth would I slam other teams? Sheesh. This is why printed words don't always come out like they are intended.  Sorry if anyone misunderstood the statement.
