What's it gonna take to get PNG back on track???

Sometimes Pride keeps people from seeing the truth! Seeing life through Purple tinted glasses is not always a good thing. Sometimes you gotta take of the shades to realize that the sky is cloudy! -
What team(s) has had your teams number this decade?
badndn replied to a topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Hadn't played them much lately, WOS. Even in our State Runner Up season they beat us. -
I say PNG whips the he!! out of Central tonight. We are just way to big for them. They really shouldn't even be on the same field with our Varsity boys. Not sure how this is being allowed to hap..... My mistake! I thought it was Nederland's Central Middle School. Sorry! Central 28 PNG 17 PNG goes down swinging...Sorry again that was PAM last night that went down swinging! ;D

How many PNG games have you been to this year obcowboy? I love when fans from other teams try and diminish what we see every week for the last 4 years. : Again PNG decided to line up 4 wideouts and put the QB in the gun last year and ran some plays and called it the spread. It wasn't even close to the spread. They did no real research. The bulk of the throws were to the RB (by design). And about "you gotta go with what you know", you also gotta adjust to what you got! This year they had an accurate QB with a big arm, two good wideouts and a young porous defense. They couldn't play MB ball and run smash mouth offense and in your face defense and win 10-7 like they could last year. The offense needed to be more diverse. They needed to score more and try to win ball games 35-28. Instead they went run, run, pass, punt until they were down by 21 and then opened it up each week. By then the defense could just pin their ears back and tee off on the QB because they had a big lead. PNG has not thrown a pass on the first play of the game all year. Imagine what the oppossing defense (who are allways 10 men in the box) would do if PNG ran play action to DeRon on the first play? They would be stunned!

You sure. It was the Sophomore running back. Thought his name was Roberts. That was in 1998. 1999 was our State Title game run.

Lamarque basically ran their HC out of town last year after one season (one 10+ win season). You reap what you sow. Run a good HC out of town enough and eventually the top prospects for the job decline and you get a guy from Dallas with a mediocre record at best! -
2 Things: 1. Even a Cowgirl sees the problem on offense! This is the problem, Stewart changed, Burnett is not changing. 2. Long Brothers? Do you mean the Colburn twins? They were the WR combo Dustin Long's Sophomore and Junior seasons. The year they went to state Long had a whole new batch of WR's (Baxter, Norton, Lumbley and one other I can't remember). The Colburn twins last game was at Lamar against you guys and it was a great game. Real barn burner. You guys ran on us with Roberts and Dakari Pearson and we threw to the big twins all night long. In the end Dakari was just too much! What a fun game to watch.

LU pledge Tatum is looking forward to spread offense

Well he helped lead PNG to the second round last year and a lose to eventual state champ Lamar Consolidated. Don't judge the kid on the stats or lack there of at PNG. If you have seen PNG you would understand why the numbers aren't astounding. But also if you ask anyone who has seen him when they get away from the power game, they will tell you he can sling it and is accurate. He has completed more than 50% for most of the season. The 2/17 against Ozen really hurt. Besides he is not the only QB that will sign with LU. I would suspect Woodard would also bring in a JC transfer and try to sign another QB or two next year 2010. -
What team will have a new Head Coach next year ??????
badndn replied to JAKE the SNAKE's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I think PAM will go in a new direction. Status Quo at PNG! Stowers will stay. Ozen maybe, but they have been a revolving door the past few years. -
The bulk of the turnovers were committed by returning seniors.

And this schedule is tougher and this team is not as talented. I had the W in the wrong place. It was supposed to be an L to Ohio and a W over Ind St. I see a 7-7 non-conference and 10-6 conference. That's 17-13. If we win the tournament then we will have a 20 win season. I think Nabors was good enough for 3 to 4 additional W's. -
Yeah, being home to the worlds richest and greediest company has it's advantages I guess.

Pretty sure the JV's only loss this year was a 29-28 game against Lumberton. And there are 5 large Sophomores on Varsity as well. Much of the defense from this year will return. Deron and Segura return at WR and Harmon returns in the back field as does Raggio. The line will have to be retooled, but fom what I hear that was a strong point at the JV level this year.

You wanta bet on that? You think this team without Nabors will win 20 games? W Louisiana College L at Louisiana-Lafayette W Denver L at Rice W Lyon College L at Kentucky L Ohio W Indiana State L at Louisville L Texas Tech W Huston-Tillotson W St. Gregory's L at Memphis W at Utah Valley St. Do you really think LU will go 13-3 in the SLC again? -
I hope you are being sarcastic because Southlake and Grapevine are two of the most expensive places to live in the DFW area....There is a reason why Southlake will only have one high school there.... Bingo...Southlake is home to multi-million dollar homes and corporate exec's. My wife and I lived in Grapevine in the early '90's and she worked in this little town northwest of there with a jaugernaut 3A football program called Southlake. We used to go eat burgers at the Dragon's Den and I proudly wore my black cap with the green bill and green "C" on it when we came back home (we had friends with kids onthe team). But we couldn't afford to live there. It amazes us to this day at the growth of that coummunity in such a short time. If I had to choose another program to root for based on recent history and fan base...Katy. The Red Sea!

Would you like that turnover with apples? ;D

I think that is about right, but without Nabors. Of course they picked us fourth with Nabors. Until someone steps up and proves they can be the scoring and rebounding threat that Nabors/Sanders combo was, this team is a big question mark. Justin Reynolds was a very good Freshman last year and will be even better this season. I see this kid winning SLC MVP maybe next year or as a Sr. -
Bennet was on a football scholarship. More scholarships in football, thus less risk to the basketball roster if he gets injured playing basketball. He was essential the highest recruited walk-on to the basketball team and takes an extra spot on the team as opposed to Wesley who would be one of the 10 or so basketball scholarships.

Why do you just suspect that we loved MB last year? We fans did not vote for him as Coach of the year. The problem with the spread last year was that we where not actually running the spread. We went to the shotgun with four receivers, but the only passes we threw where to the RB. There were no crossing patterns and nothing up the field at all. Nederland decided to run the spread and the coaches were sent up to visit with Dodge and learned the ins and outs of the offense. PNG on the other hand just decided one day, hey lets line up in the spread and run some plays!!!!!! Duh!!! Wonder why that didn't work? I sat in front of some Nederland coaches scouting PNG at the Crosby game earlier this year and I asked them if they were writing anything down and they said no not really. One of them showed me his notes from last year. He laughed and said that it's the same thing over and over again. Another Nederland coach told me last year that the easiest week of preperation for them each year was PNG!!!! And he was dead serious! -
The people who vote in the polls are idiots. Florida looses to an unranked SEC bottom feeder OU looses to Texas Texas looses to an undefeated top 5 on a last second play at their house Yet some polls have those two ranked ahead of UT. At least for know the BCS has Texas ahead, but when OU beats TT, they will move ahead of UT. The only thing that could save Texas' chance at a NC game is if TT looses to both OU and OSU, Bama looses and UT wins the Big 12 title game. That might catipolt them over OU in that scenario. We need a playoff!

Well...Any news?

Football to Basketball is the most dificult in college because they run concurrent for a few months. If he committed for basketball I would imagine Roc wouldn't want to have to wait on him each year for football to end nor would he want the injury risk. But if he is on a football scholarship then it would be a different situation.

MB is the AD at PNG for the boys. Barbara Comeaux is girls AD. That State Championship game was almost 10 years ago and since Mike Long left PNG has had one playoff appearance. My nephew played on that State Runner Up team in '99 and when asked about the offense he said MB was clueless. He said that when a play was called Matt would ask what it was ("what are we doing"). I attended quite a few practices that year and Mike Long was clearly running that offense. Matt had no part of it. But what that allowed Matt to do was focus on the defense (linebackers primarily) and that is his specialty. That defense was salty and those linebackers were allways in the right spot. This is what most of us at PNG want to see happen again. I don't want Matt gone, just want an established play caller with some imagination to be given the keys to the offensive car and allowed to drive it alone, without being told which way to go. Then Matt can go back to doing what he does better than most coaches in this area, coaching defense. As far as talent this year. We have a Very good QB, Two backs near the district rushing lead, a 6'3" WR with great hands and athleticism and another very good WR across from him. We have run playaction maybe three times all season with big success! Why only a few times?? Granted the talent on defense is young, we knew that going in, but this maybe the most overall talent on offense since Dustin Long's Sr. year. The problem is not the talent. The problem is that the opposing defense knows what we are doing before the ball is snapped. I don't care how talented you are, if they know your play they have won half the battle already.
