  1. When Beard went back into the game and carried the ball, he made a cut to his left with no one touching him and immediately begin to go down. The PNG player was already set to hit him (hence teh cut back) when he begin to go down. The first hit was as legal as it gets. For the guy that said "- I know for a fact that whoever tackled Beard was going for the knees on purpose." How do you know this as fact? Did he tell you this? Where you telecomunicating with the kid? You guys from Lumberton continue to amaze me with your moronic assesment of all things football. If it happened to Lumberton and it is negative you immediately begin to point fingers. I hate that the kid got hurt as you can tell that he really loves the game and has a bright future, but to say it was done with malice is ridiculous without proof. Wish we had the video. Playing PNG as malicous head hunters without proof is just idiotic. Also on the subject of the new turf, Beard is the only player I saw go down with a leg injury all night and no one went down with a leg injury against Livingston. Not Astro Turf. Big, Big difference.
  2. Did anyone hear ask what SHSU was doing? I agree with trying to get the DII's off of the schedule. Would love to see LT or ULL rivalries renewed.
  3. ???? that's not much of a committment. Sort of a slap in the face! "Yes, I will marry you, but If so and so asks I will marry him" "Sure I l go to the prom with you, but if GT asks, you should bring the tux back!"
  4. Will we ever get a return on all these Memphis games?
  5. BINGO!!! Herein lies the problem at PNG. Not recognizing where your strengths are each year and adjusting accordingly! Also this district is not tough any more. It is a shell of what it once was, at least this year. None of the playoff teams will advance beyond the second round and I think we could get swept in round one!
  6. Maybe Matt and company should come sit in the stands this Friday Night! ;D Being a coach is a demanding job, I agree. They have to mold young boys into young men and hope that they execute on Friday night to save their jobs, but the guy at the top is also being payed handsomely (compared to teachers) to put the kids in a position to succeed and should be questioned when it is felt that he is not doing that. But I also agree that calling out a kid is un-called for. They bust their butts for the love of the game and for the smile on our face when they get it right. Until the kids get paid big money, they should be applauded no matter what they do on the field!
  7. I thought Dodge was suppose to be the second -coming at UNT. I seem to remember his son is playing there too. Riley is not paying much right now. Probably should have red-shirted him. Besides he don't play defense so he ain't gonna help 'em much where they need it most.
  8. I agree. What's in it for Memphis, a basketball power?
  9. I would have never guessed that Yates was the current streak holder! I knew they were tough in the 80's, but not much since.
  10. The district coaches chose him coach of the year last year to keep him around longer. ;D I really get tired of people posting about PNG having one bad year and they will be back, blah, blah, blah...For those that live in the district and follow the program we know that it is not just "One Down Year". On the contrary, last year we had "One Up Year". Like I said before, Matt does not adjust to suit his talent year in and year out. Last year he had the hosses to be a power football team and it worked out as it does about every 3 or 4 years. p.s. this still doesn't mean it is OK to throw punches in the stands! I am embarassed about it. Where is the Honor, Pride and Tradition?
  11. The Bmt Surprise does have archived box scores for this year. Use the link below, then pick a team, then go down the page to the boxscore of the game you want. iPrep BMT Enterprisehttp://www.beaumontenterprise.com/sports/ipreps/High_School_Sports_Data.html
  12. I think Nederland's offense will give Lumberton fits, you can't stop Grogan (he is a man child) so I think Lumberton will try and contain the passing game and have little success. I also think that Lumberton is too one dimensional this year to outscore Nederland. In other words I think Nederland scores quickly and makes a couple of stops of the Raider running game, which will be just enough to win (Nederland 31 - Lumberton 21). I actualy might sneak over to Bulldog stadium to watch this one! Before you LTrain fans start screaming about respect, I am not dogging your program, just telling it like I see it. I have been wrong once before...ONCE! ;D
  13. Not gonna happen!
  14. Not athlete wise, but running play action is a no brainer for any power football team. And a draw or two when we went back into the shotgun would help keep the rush off. Also don't care much for having two RB's in the shotgun for protection. I would prefer one back with an extra TE on the line.
  15. I sit at the 20 by the video board and it was packed to the fence during the Livingston game. Not sure about the other side of the band. I noticed a lot of folks leaving after the band played at the half. What is that all about?
  16. I was at the game. Didn't see any fisticuffs! Where did this occur? I never saw any crowds form or any cops? No excuse for grown men throwing punches at a HS football game. Outsiders have this misconception that Matt Burnett has won all the time, but this is just not true. PNG has a winning season every 3 or 4 years because the personel fit the mold of an MB team. But in those other three years MB does not adjust to fit his talent. The fact that Larry Neuman does adjust year in and year out just makes it worse. Matt likes to play a stingy defense and run you into the ground and win 17-10. But this years team is not capable of doing that. The talent on defense does not allow it. The talent on offense is better siuted to spread it out and try and score quick. We ran play action once Friday night for a 40 yard gain. Once! How does a power running attack only run play action once?? Watch on Sunday. They live off of playaction.
  17. May the worst team loose ;D
  18. The stands were a lilttle empty compared to usual. But I think a couple of things contributed to that. 1. The recent losses. 2. Pecan Festival in Groves. The home stands were packed against Livingston and the stadium actually seats about the same as it did before, they just moved the endzone seats to the home side. I kinda liked the endzone seats myself, but I guess with the new Jumbotron they had to be moved. Tip Durham has been announcing at PNG for 40+ years. He actually usually does a great job and sounds very profesional. He was a little off Friday night though, I will admit. I guess it happens once in a while. Bob Sheppard is not flamboyant either, but he is the most recognized announcer in all of sports! Lumberton's announcer was yelling into the mic at halftime. Not necessary with our new sound system. We were deaf before the bands played ;D. I hope someone explains to the Central announcer that he doesn't have to be loud like you have to at most SETx stadiums before teh next home game. Can't wait for that Jaguar halftime! Always entertaining.
  19. After seeing both Nederland and Lumberton, I have to say I would pick Nederland to win the head to head come week 10. But you never know in this district this year.
  20. I have to say congrats to Lumberton on a good game and I really hope Beard can come back quickly as he is a beast. He reminds me of the typical PNG Linebacker, tuff as nails and mean. I think the better coached team won this game. Coach Creuder found what was working and went with it in the second half. PNG only ran 5 plays in the second half. But, I still don't see anyone from our district doing any damage in the playoffs. Lumberton is a far cry from what they were last year with DeJohn. They have absolutely zero passing game, which will hurt them. Trust me I have seen enough PNG football over the years to know that once you get out of this district, you can't win on just the ground game. Happens to us regularly. Watching Lumberton was like watching PNG over the years. Tuff stinging defense and salty ground game, but no air attack. When PNG ran to the outside they got yardage, but when they ran between the tackles they got stuffed. So what did we do on 4th and 3 inside the 20? We ran between the tackles for 0. Ridiculous. Why run into the heart and soul of the Lumberton D? We don't adjust on offense at all. Sometimes I get the feeling that we have plays written down for each down, that we are going to call before the game even starts and never veer away from it! Plus we have a 6'3" WR with great hands, good speed and great ability to go up and get the ball, and with the game on the line we throw the deep post to the shortest WR on the team and it gets picked?? Explain that one to me? Good Luck Raiders! You now are in the drivers seat to win this crazy district.
  21. Did LHS already qualify? Did I miss something? Beat PNG first. Remember in a head to head, Vidor has the upper hand!
  22. Offense: Micheal - WB I see invites to: Hannah - Lumb Garrett - WOS Grogan - Ned If they include Livingston, Defense: Harris - Liv
  23. One big difference. Neuman had been to the playoffs 10 consecutive seasons before that and beat PNG 3 out of every 4 years. He also was starting a Sophomore QB. Neuman has changed his style to suit the talent at Nederland from season to season. The offense is creative and fun to watch. On the flip side Matt has had a 52-37 record since the D. Long Era (30-7) and has gone 21-15 since Mike left (one playoff appearance). They were 71-31 while Mike was calling the offense and Matt was doing what he does best, which is running the defense and keeping the kids in line. I would like to see Matt bring in an offensive mind and let him do his thing. No meddling. Then Matt could focus on the defense.
  24. Who cares right away? Don't expect big things in the first few years. Just expect improvement.
