The Icon got a reaction from L-Train11 in Port Neches-Groves 2019.
It’s safe to assume that this debate comes up for discussion every year around this time: Faircloth’s emphasis on offense vs a lack of defense. All things being equal, of course everyone would like to be superb at both.
However, coaches have come and gone over the years, new schools have popped up around metro areas and the socio-economic landscape is ever changing all over the state. My question, as an uninvested party, is have any of the PNG faithful ever taken a look their own talent pool?
Other than a once in a century athlete, most of the kids are your typical high school athlete. Some are bigger or faster than those in the their own class or school, but once a Marshall/College Station/Angleton come around - it’s the same story: Jimmy’s vs Joe’s.
Just an outsider’s perspective, not an indictment on the athletic prowess of anyone’s kids.

That dead horse has been beaten
1) Lydell Wilson was told he had to keep coaches from the previous staffs and certain ones as coordinators
2) Certain board members with no skin in the game were making those calls
3) Once the decision to choose AL as the first coach was made, it was spun as a “he’s done this before” type deal
Am I close?

Don’t forget malicious speculation. There’s some of that, too.

The Icon reacted to oldschool2 in LP Job opening
Posting a 6A football job where the HFC has to teach 2 classes is guaranteed to .. well .. just exactly how good of a coach (experienced winner) are they expecting to get? I'm sure coaches from all over the state will be lined up to run a 6A football program and a grade book all at the same time.. (eyes rolled)
Come on LaPorte.. try not to SeTx so hard.

Hats off to Faircloth
Sometimes unsavory people need to be put in their place

The Icon reacted to Alpha Wolf in FYI from ol Soulja....
I'm sitting in Cheddars about to eat so I don't have much time but I received a 20 minute and 44 second phone call from one of the "Admin Powers" yesterday on this entire topic wanting to know my and the community's concerns about United football. And I didn't hold back, I was actually more controlled last night because I only had 2 and half minutes...

Both. In Beaumont, both can happen. A city that produced a champion in '82 and a co-champion in 84 can have schools with deep playoff runs and significant amounts of scholarship offers

I understand that it might not logistically make since, but a consolidation of those schools seems what’s best from an athletic perspective. That being said, I can imagine the issues what would cause in terms of housing students and creating a functional learning environment.

According to a recent article, isn’t the defense ranked in the top 3 in the district?

Sure is frustrating winning football games, a share of the district championship and earning a favorable seed in the playoffs. Yeah, frustrating is a good word for that.

If Shug was the featured RB, would anyone complain that he got too many carries? Did people flip when JC got 35+ carries per game for PAM, Mosley for Ned or even Bertrand for PNG? NO, because the QB threw 10-20 passes a game so it felt like it was distributed. So PNGs featured back just so happens to be it’s QB. GET OVER IT. Shug has good vision, hits the hole quick and runs hard. Deslatte does same (injured). Conner does as well in the limited action I’ve seen, but he doesn’t have the experience that allows BF and company to be comfortable enough to get him more carries and pick up blitzes, etc. this late in season against (SF, BH and Ned) top three. Beyond that, well...Shug gets 25+ carries!

FRUSTRATING???? The TEAM just won those games. I don’t care what team or what coach you are if you have RJ, you are going to utilize him to the fullest!
