1. WOS Class of 1979, Stangs all the way!
 2. Just a Mustang fans take who saw last years scrimmage. Nederland has an outstanding kicker. Their passing attack clicked better in the second half than the first. Really two long pass plays in the first half were busted WOS coverages, good job on NED's Qb to find them behind the secondary. Nederland outside of one or two runs really did not run the ball well IMO. Hard to tell if WOS was that good or Nederland just needed work. Overall, I thought the Dogs looked better last year. Really thought they had much more speed last year and probably were a little bigger than they showed this year. Their defense come up with some big interceptions. When the Bulldog QB had time to throw he was very accurate but I thought WOS was in the backfield too much most of the game. Nederland should win the district, but they may have trouble with speed teams in the playoffs. For WOS, good start for a sophomore QB making his first varsity start and playing time at QB. Rutledge played well, especially in the fourth quarter. Remember, Rutledge (a junior) still has not made his first varsity start at QB either although he does have a little varsity experience at QB. WOS is going to have to run the ball better with their RB's than QB's. Defensively, against the run they were outstanding. Against the pass they need to be better. Having Johnny Shaw next week should make a difference. Nederland should win district, WOS may have a better chance against Silsbee than perhaps many Mustang faithful believe (barring injuries). Just my take on things.
 3. It is my understanding that 4 teams will NOW go to the playoffs this year. Starting with realignment NEXT year there very well could be a large and a small division in each district. From what rumors I have seen going around on this site WOS, SILS, JASPER, CLEV, HUF, would definately be in the large school bracket. I think from the rumors that BC and OF would be as well but not sure. I think HJ, HF, Coldspring, and others would be in the small school bracket with BUNA possibly dropping a classification. I think about 6 teams in each district. Not sure it is set in stone yet by the UIL.
 4. Being a Dallas Cowboys fan lately I can certainly see why there is excitement at HJ. Each year brings new hope, and the reality is, yes, HJ is better than the have been. Unfortunately, this isn't the NFL where a couple of players can actually mean a great improvement because the overall talent level is close. When you have been one of the bottom rungs of the ladder as long as they have been (even with new coaches and new philosphy) at the high school level the odds of turning it around in a season or even two isn't great. It takes time. In reality, anything is possible, but I'd probably win the lottery before the Hawks beat WOS or Silsbee this year. IMO Silsbee has one of their best teams in years, my Stangs are inexperienced but loaded with an impressive junior-to-be class. I don't think HJ will finish last in the district but don't see a playoff run either. I was impressed by their JV squad against WOS. Once the district changes into the divisions they definately will be competitive in D2 with probably the only exception being Coldspring. Not this year guys, but brighter days and possible playoffs are probably on the horizon. As far as children on here, when you make what seems to be an outrageous comment (at least to others, no matter if you believe it our not), you can expect some outrageous comments back. Support your team, don't knock others. It has been a fun topic to read though, very entertaining.
 5. I wished I knew his name but, unfortunately, I do not. To get hit in the temple like that with the ball, knocked down to the ground and STILL want to umpire the rest of the game behind the plate (not to mention worked the varsity game), your sir are the toughest blue I have ever seen. Hope the knot has gone down some today and everything is good with you. You do have my respect.
 6. I would say on the sideline...seriously though, WOS should be either 1 or 2 and several games deep in the playoffs.
 7.
I foresee our local 3A (4A) districts to be something like this: Division I Bridge City Silsbee WO-S Huffman Splendora Cleveland Jasper Division II Hamshire-Fannett Hardin-Jefferson Orangefield Liberty Tarkington Coldspring Shepherd I expect Buna to drop down a classification
Thought I would put the last UIL official enrollment figures to the divisions (data from UIL website) for everyone's enjoyment ;) Splendora    969                        Tarkington    585 Huffman        962                        Liberty          575 Cleveland      928                        Hardin-Jeff    570 Silsbee          822                        Coldspring    540 Bridge City    773                        Ham-Fan      534 Jasper          729                        Shepherd    534 WOS            686                        Orangefield  520
 8.

Buna will be okay at WOS as long as they return the home run balls. ;D Rake1
We only return our own home run balls otherwise it will be like disco night at a Rangers game ;D
 9. Just curious if this applies....play was not hindered because fielder caught ball, runner made contact and my assumption if the fielder held on to the ball the runner would have been out. Fielder actually made the play (so he wasn't hindered) just had the ball popped loose by the runner (so then the only question becomes whether or not it was malicious). Is this right? So, from what i am hearing had the infielder tried to throw to first if it had been a double play the ruling would then have been out because he was hindered in his throw?
 10.
If it was a steal, runner does not have to slide but can not create malicious contact. Judgement call on that. The rule stated before about legal sliding was taken from a force play at second on a possible double play.
glad to get your input Mr. Ump, I have learned a lot of baseball from you on this site the last couple of years.
 11.
What happen to Aiden?
His throwing arm is injured, no diagnosis yet as to how bad it is or what it is from anything I have heard. Sure the kid could use some prayers. He (as is his brother) is an outstanding young man and a very talented baseball player. Hoping it is nothing serious.
 12.
reading from the rule book. the runner is out when...... he does not legaly slide and causes illegal contact and/or illegally alters the actions of a fielder in the immediate act of making a play, or does not slide in a direct line between the bases. If contact is ruled to be malicious, he is to be ejected.
I have never heard about the sliding in a direct line between the bases (though I can see this on a SB attempt) but I know on DB plays in the majors a slide (admittedly, when breaking up a double play or plays at the plate) is deemed a legal slide as long as the runner could reach out and touch the base (therefore, contact could be made to one side of the base or the other and still be a legal slide). Is this a high school level rule book this is from? IMO this rule is more intended for a play in which the runner denies the fielder any chance of fielding a ball by running over him. In this instance the player did catch the ball but dropped it on contact. To me the questions appear to be a) was the runner out of the baseline (while he appears to be somewhat in front of the base and he shouldn't be, he does appear to be within acceptable distance to me) and b) was there a malicious attempt to injure the player. If a) the runner is out and b) the runner is out and ejected.
 13.
your re-post posted before mine. You are correct. He does not have to slide. However if shortstop is in process of catching and making a tag and there is no slide, but rather a collision and that collision is mallicious then yes there is a possible ejection! Runner needs to make an attempt to slide no doubt though.
I totally agree my friend. Would have loved to see several frames before and after the one we had. That is a judgment call and probably the hardest call for an umpire to make. I think the sound of the collision, and whether or not the player is hurt also plays a part of their decision. Hopefully, the infielder was Ok. It does look like the runner was going after the player to break the ball loose, I have a lot more problem with it being a steal than a DP attempt. I always taught my kids to slide on any steal attempt, but they don't always listen.
 14. something i didn't catch, it was a steal attempt...doesn't change my opinion. Runner should have slid but still he doesn't have to.
 15. runners arm is not in the face but rather the shoulder could be argued runner was trying to prtect himself (which is his right)...runner's job to break up double play..second baseman's job to get out of the way...runner was apparently within close proximity to the bag. IMO (which probably is wrong), play stands no ejection. Runner does not have HAVE to slide..in the major's the infielders are taught to make them slide by throwing at the helmet.
 16. Grant really stepped up big time last night and big hit by the Hryhorchuk boy who has really been hitting the ball well since being promoted from JV. Get well soon Aiden!
 17. Glad to know what I already thought. No opposing player was dissed. I now know the two kids that originally went after the ball and I can GUARENTEE you that they are among the best behaved most respectful kids you can find in ANY program. They are strickly yes sir, no sir kind of kids. Shame this incident even happened. Incident is history now and time to put it to bed. Good luck to EC the rest of the season and their fans.
 18.

She never told him he could not have the ball. She had already walked over and gave the ball to the EC head coach and I saw the EC coach give the ball to WOS. The ball was in the WOS dugout prior to the parent approaching her. She told the parent that the ball was given to the head coach. Im sure he is a good guy, not disputing that, and not saying he is a liar either,  he was probably caught up in the moment because he did not have all of the facts and thought his son was not going to get the ball and just didnt realize how aggressive he appeared to others. Another EC parent even stood up once he approached her because of how angry he was. For those who were sitting in the stands did not know what was going on and did not know that the player already had the ball. So I am sure they may have advised to call and complain, I would have advised the same thing had i not been there and known the kid already had the ball
well said and those are the facts
All could have been avoided. I can assure you the parent would not have walked over there had he known the ball had already been handed over.  I still would like to know how the JV player was disrespected. Let me state that I have always respected how nice the people of Winnie are having been there for two PONY GT championships and two directors tourney's. We were treated well always. I was quite surprised this happened there. Lesson to all parents, let the coaches discipline the players.
 19.
What about the WOS kid who retrieved the HR ball and disrespected the EC JV player and what about the WOS parent who tried to intimidate the wife after she informed him that the EC head coach had the hr ball and was giving it to the kid. The parent was so far out of line that the EC parents became concerned with how the over 6 ft WOS parent approached and was treating the coaches wife. I know the facts because I was sitting right there watching the whole thing. The ball was taken from the wos kid because of how he treated the EC player. The wife was only sticking up for the EC player and trying to show kids that it is wrong to treat other kids in the manner the WOS player did. She also told the WOS kids that the ball was going to be given to the EC coach and the EC coach would give the player the ball. As far as the coach yelling from the dugout...the head coach was telling the WOS parent that the kid had the ball already because all the parent was doing was stirring up parents on both sides. Then the parent responds by screaming back at the head coach. WOW....so it doesn’t sound like and didn’t look like EC was in the wrong. As a note the ball was already in the WOS dugout by the time the parent approached the coaches wife.
As i figured, two sides to every story. I have known the over 6 foot gentleman, whose late father is a TEXAS HALL OF FAME COACH and have had the honor to have coached with him for 5 years together in PONY league. If he tells me he asked politely for the ball at first I believe him. Now, did he probably get mad after she told him she would not give him the ball, I think any parent would have. I have never known him to lie about anything, in fact, he usually is straight up about everything and will tell it to you like he sees it. Second of all, even if the kid was disrespected it is not the wife's place to a)take a ball from an opposing player under ANY circumstances and b)teach anyone outside of her own kids about anything. That makes her in the wrong. If she wanted to stick up for the EC she could have complained to the WOS coach if someone was being mistreated. I guarentee you Coach Landry or Coach Morrell would have addressed the issue immediately and harshly. Had the ball been turned over the parents would not have been involved and the whole situation been avoided. There were also EC parents who advised the WOS parent to complain to the school principal, which I was told has happened. Since you were RIGHT THERE how did the WOS player disrespect the EC player? I truly want to know and will pass it along to the coach.
 20.
Butterbean was you at the game ? If not go join txdragon and get y'all's story right
So what are YOUR facts?
 21. Yes u r correct, i left after the jv game.....however, i got the news first hand from the kids father the coach screamed at from the dugout. Pretty sure there will b a complaint filed. I also talked to coaches later that night. No coach should have acted that way. To deny any kid at any level for any reason his first home run ball is honestly over the top and the wife had no reason to get involved. I am sure there is two sides to the story...but still there is no excuse for what happened. Bottom line is the kid got the ball, but the whole incident reflects badly on a fine East Chambers program.
 22.
Who pitched for WOS?
Chase Rutledge.....heard there was an incident where the wife of the East Chambers coach didn't want to give the WOS player who had just hit his first varsity homer the ball. Shameful.
 23. Outside of BC, sounds like the district is pretty even. I know WOS JV has won their past five. I know still have BC, Sils, Buna, and I think OF left to play.
