Moye was NOT that big of an asset for Jasper. They played much better without him.

Like I said, we have a lot of young kids this year and it will take time to get a good head of steam.

This was THE worst scrimmage that I have ever seen Newton in. Defense looked good, Kirbyville couldn't run on the first team at all. Offensivly....at least 20 fumbles....couple of good passes, couple of good runs....not impressed....YET. We have lots of young kids playing and it will take time to gell. We will be ready for Crockett on the 8th :evil: Kirbyville looked better than expected...Jack has been poor-mouthing...they have some speed and size and swarm to the ball. Anyone overlooking K-ville in district will be is for a surprise.

I remember a couple of Newton teams putting on Ozen.

Bickham is a heck of a coach and will have Deweyville headed in the right direction. I look for Deweyville to make some noise in district this year.

Newton has a brutal preseason lineup and if we can get through without injury we will be ready for district. We had about 70 kids come out this yr and everyone of them are ready to take on the Dallas Cowboys.

Pendland is a good kid and has a big heart. McNeese is lucky to have him.

You can't count Newton and Coach Barbay out of the selection. A record of 263-83-6 has to say something.

Actually I was referring to the new style of football at Jasper, but let me make a clarification, with Moye at QB. Didn't get to see Jasper with out him.

I saw Alto last year and I've seen WH for the past 2 yrs and I don't THINK WH can beat Alto. Not saying it can't or won't happen, just think Alto is too fast. Alto will be one of the top 3 teams in 1A next year and will give anyone in 1A a run for their money.

08 and 09 will be VERY good years for Newton due to the fact that we will be made of Jrs and Sophs next year. I think there will only be 3 or 4 Srs on next years varsity.

OK let's see: Will Gulley-Houston Ken Scott-Texas Tech Trey Bennett-McNeese Max Karpel-McNeese Brian Smith-McNeese Keedrin Seastrunk-North Western, La and we have about 6 playing Div 2 football. Hope I didn't forget anyone.

I think Buna has a really good shot at beating EC.

My picks are 1. BC 2. WOS 3. Silsbee Sorry Jasper but I think next yr will be a reloading year for you as it will be for us also. :cry:

For Newton it will be a rebuilding year, if there is such a thing in Newton. We will only have 2 returning Srs. and a lot of under classmen that will have to step up and play on the varsity level. Most of the young guys had plenty of playing time this year so I think we will be ok in that aspect. It's hard to replace a Pendland but Newton has always been able to find someone that can tote the ball and we will still have Jenkins at qb. Our defense will be the area that needs the most attention but we are confident that coach Johnston will fill in the gaps left by D. Johnston and Freeman. Overall I think we will be ok and still better than 90% of all of the other 2A schools in the state. As of now our pre-dist games are with: Crockett Jasper Kirbyville Hemphill San Augustine Could be 2-3 going into district, but we'll just have to wait and see.

Opps! OF and Carthage backed out...anyone want to play?

Well if they would move us north with teams like Corrigan, San Augustine and Garrison it would be a little better.

Newton has: Orangefield Hemphill Carthage Jasper Kirbyville I'm just hoping that the UIL gods will move us to a more competitive district.

Tulane (sp) and Memphis are wanting him and a host of AA schools.
