1. Gonna be a rough year in central Jasper County.  Nice win Newton.
2.
How do you longhorn's like your crow ?
That is exactly why you shouldn't talk smack after week 1.  They might still finish 4th in their district.
3. Good win for the Coogs.  Kept the ball off the ground, which is always a good thing.  OF really came back and played a gritty second half shutting Bunas' run offense down.  The win pulls Buna back to within one game all-time in this yearly matchup, OF leads 26-25-2.  Good luck to the 'Cats the rest of the season.  Keep the momentum going Buna, build off this game.  GO COUGARS!!!
4. Last 3 years scores between these teams: 2008:  Buna 20-17 in 2 OT's. 2009:  OF 37-17 behind an outstanding performance by C. Huckaby. 2010:  OF 12-7 in a defensive battle. All-time records : OF leads series 26-24-2. See you in Buna tomorrow night!
5. Should be another great edition in this long standing rivalry.  OF 'D' played a solid game against EC this past week.  Both teams are vulnerable to the big play.  If Buna opens up the passing a bit with their QB, it could spell trouble for OF, but with OF getting rushes and yards from a number of players last week, that could keep them fresh enough to outlast the Coogs big front line.  I bleed blue through and through, so GO COUGARS!  Get the season started off right, it has been a few years since we beat the 'Cats, lets start a new streak Friday night in Buna.
6. Hate to hear that, outstanding football player, will be missed for sure.  Keep your head up Justin.
7. Guess Miles and his band of receivers will be sorely missed this year.  Good win for Liberty.
8. So, after T. Thomas and Hank Jones at the lead dog postion the last 5 to 6 years, there will be no lag at QB?  Not to mention the coaching change...not doubting the success the program has had, but thats 2 big losses at QB and HC.  Good luck to all 10-2A Division 1 teams, it should be another great district race.
9. Is there something I'm missing about EC, I know the RB is coming back, but they did lose the back to back district MVP at QB.  What about Bouillion the good LB, did he graduate?  Give us some insight into what makes them tick this year.  I personally think Woodville is the darkhorse, they impressed me last year.  AP still gonna be good, may be better than last year.  Newton you can never count out.  Buna is always gonna be physical and compete.  Hardin rebuilding somewhat, Kountze always got speed and could surprise you, while Warren is improving.
10. That is one fine group of young men.  Your Mom and Dads' could not be any prouder of you and your accomplishments.  Good luck COUGARS!!!
11. I don't know about worst traffic in the state, you should hit Buna as school lets out!  LOL  Good luck Silsbee Tigers, all of us in Jasper watching the Coogs will be rootin' you on!
12. Buna versus Nac. Central Heights, Game 1 is 5:00 Friday in Jasper, with Game 2 immediately following.  If Game 3 is necessary, 2:00 PM Saturday also in Jasper.
13. Another solid all-around performance for the Coogs, winning game 2 by a score of 6- 5 capping off the first series win by a Buna team since the 2008 state run. Solid pitching by the starter Richard Walden, along with a gutsy closing role by Kolton Clark, battled a much improved hitting Bulldog team today.  Glen Patrick helped the effort with a big triple and Walden came to his own aid with a 2 run single as well.  The Corrigan pitcher threw a good game, but a few errors behind him and that never say die Cougar effort left him empty handed.  Great defense shined once again as Justin Yoes finished the game with a shoestring catch in right that clinched the game, while a Walden to Terrier pickoff play snubbed another Corrigan rally.  Blake Hale and Kale Terrier both made great leaping stabs of well hit balls off Bulldog bats and Kolton Clark made all his plays over at third look easy.  Great win for the Buna boys and can't wait until next weekend.  Let's keep it going guys!  Congrats COUGARS!
14. Not to mention that Jacob had to rebound from one of the worst beanings I have ever seen.  This happened in the bottom of the 2nd in the middle of the 8 runs the Coogs were putting up, luckily we kept batting, giving him time to recover and catch his wits.    The ball hit him so hard, paint literally came off his helmet.  It was scary, too scary.  Great job Jacob, truly a great competitor.
15. Harder, yes, better, not tonight.  We still got games tomorrow, this thing is far from over.  Corrigan lost game 1 to Troup last week as well.  I'm sure the pitcher we'll see tomorrow will be a major improvement.  Let's keep the focus and sweep 'em guys!  Go COOGS!  A little side note, Buna should be in their road blues tomorrow being the visiting team, their road record in those blue uniforms, 6-0 in district, gotta love it.  See you in Jasper at 3:00!
16. The Buna Cougars continued their marked improvement tonight with a convincing 11-1 5 inning win over Corrigan-Camden.  Led by another great pitching performance by Jacob Clark, only giving up 1 hard hit ball to CF and 2 hits on the night.  The Coogs took advantage of walks, HBP's and errors combined with some timely hitting to take the series lead going to Saturday.  Buna put up 8 runs in the second inning, kicked off by a leadoff triple under the centerfielders glove by Blake Hale and the Cougar lineup just kept getting the job done after that sending 12+ batters to the plate.  Richard Walden, Glen Patrick, Clancy Cleveland and John Hawthorn all added hits as well over the next 2 innings, along with Yoes and McCauley keeping the basepaths alive with strong baserunning.  Excellent defense also continued for the Buna boys as Clark picked off a runner with Hale throwing down to Terrier to complete the out, catcher Patrick throwing down to Hale to pick off another runner who had gotten too far off first also.  Cleveland made a couple of good catches out in RF, with Terrier making everything look routine out at short.   Great win Cougars, keep the bats going tomorrow and lets head to next weekend!  Go BUNA!
17. You believe or know they have too much pitching for Buna?  Tell us more, who do they have and what are their stats for the season.  Give us a scouting report...
18. Keep up the good work Price and Dalton, Scrappers for life.  Hope to see ya'll tonight in Vidor. When you see SCRAPPERS on the resume, you know you are in the presence of a fine young man!
19. DNP, finished season last Thursday against Buna.  They have been working on football plays since then.
20. Congrats to Hornets on making the playoffs.  Coach, try and get 1 game series, with your ace (#5) over there, ya'll stand a great chance of winning a 1 gamer any day.  Good luck!
21. Solid season Warriors, most improved team in the district.  Good luck in the playoffs.
