1. Cats are rollin'.  Dawgs got their tails between their legs.
2. Kountze took one on the chin last Friday losing to a suprise Hardin ballclub.  Anahuac, lost several key players already in this young season, but keep on truckin'.  Kountze can step it up and make a game out of it, but AP has speed that ran at state meet last year.  Hard to compete with that.  Good luck to both teams.
3. Woodville is the obvious choice, but I keep pulling for the Warriors every week (except in week 8 when the Coogs head to Warren).  Sooner or later they will put a total team effort together and catch somebody with their guard down.  If you have never met Coach Barbay, he is one super nice guy and the kids seem to play hard for him.  Good luck to both squads.
4. The Cats are a gritty ball club.  They have a never give up attitude on defense.  On the other hand, Jasper has plenty of speed to out run that gritty D.  Should be another hard fought battle.  Good luck to both squads.
5.
Not really.
Your Tigers should pay for the Twine boys to come down and wear the maroon.  I'm sure the UIL wouldn't find out about it.
6. I think we stuck with what has worked for us all year long, smashmouth football, run it right at you and Newton, well coached, shut it down for the most part.  Williams still got his yards, not as many as he has, but this was the best team we will face all year long.  That being said, Lopez and Burch both were able to get to the ends a few times and pick up good yardage.  I was hoping we would go back to that more often than the pass.  Newtons secondary was just too fast and closed in on every pass that was thrown almost picking off a couple balls.  As far as coaches, I am fully behind them as everyone else should be.  But if you are going to blame someone, I am sure the coaches would rather you blame them long before the players.  The truth of the matter is that after last weeks miracle finish, anything less than a W, was going to be a let down.  Starting district play with Newton is a terrible draw anyway, they are a contender if not champion every season.  Coogs, you played hard and never gave up.  Keep up the good work and the playoffs will be yours again!  GO COUGARS!!!
7. Hardin got a big win Friday night by winning game 1 of district.  Putting up 48 points after only scoring 21 the first 3 games?  Says good things for Hardins' O, but bad things about Kountzes D (I know the Lions were missing a few starters).  Buna met the best team they will all season long Friday night (no offense AP, but Newton is strong) and as usual, speed kills Buna.  Hardin and Buna have had some high point games in the past and this one could be another scoreboard breaker.  GO COUGARS!!!
8. I was completely impressed with Newton Friday night.  Their 3rd string RB could start for 6 out of the other 7 teams in this district.  Lots of speed and a very tough, strong defense.  Good luck to both squads.
9.
Should be a great game, but I think we should all pause and take a minute to remember a legend we all lost a year ago this week!
Well said Coach.  A true icon to Texas high school football, Curtis Barbay.
10. 1. Newton  (strong on both sides of ball, some things will never change) 2. Buna  (great offensive team, good play calling, 'D' needs to stand strong) 3. Anahuac  (never count the speedsters and smart coaching out) 4. EC  (solid RB, supporting cast is slowly maturing) 5. Kountze / Woodville  (both improved, could shock and suprise some) 6. Warren  (lots of heart, good coaching) 7. Hardin  (too young, will improve as they mature) Spots 2-4 will be a dogfight all year, each week will prove more crucial than the last.  However, I do believe Newton is a much improved team over last season (not that they were bad last year, still a playoff entrant).  Their D seems to be standing up strong so far.  This has been a district that anybody can win any week of the season.  Good luck to all.  GO COUGARS!!!
11. All the TD's Justin Twine had against us this past Friday night.
12. Lord have mercy on the Warriors.  Hopefully big cousin won't ruin the family Thanksgiving by beating lil' cuz too much.
13. Red Brute answers his own question in another thread on here (Buna versus Newton).  Sounds like someone needing a slap on the back and an 'atta boy'.  Maybe hoping someone would say his name as being the best.  Of course, Newton is always good.  Yes, teams will hang with them in district, did last year.
Whats your opinion on Newton for the season? Are they a good team? Who are their best players? How far will they go? Will anybody hang with them in district?  :)
14. Considering Hardin hasn't scored 30 points all year long, that may be a bold prediction.  As for Kountze, they need this win to get district started off right and to recover from the loss to West Hardin.  Good luck to both squads.  Should be a good game.
15. Homecoming night and some of the returnees that have not kept up with their alma mater are sitting behind you making comments like, "I wonder how bad were gonna lose this one?"  Especially when you know that the team you are scheduled for homecoming might not even score on you.  You just wanna smack 'em and send 'em back to where ever they escaped from.
16. Norton antivirus blocked me from looking at the pics.
17. Should be a good matchup.  Last years battle was as good a game that these two teams have played in years, of course these teams are quite different this year.  Looking forward to Friday night and our first trip to play in Newton in sometime.
18.
Buna @ Newton trumps all of those. ;)
I second those remarks.
19.
I am curious as to Coach Stump's plan for the future (present) at QB at Westbrook...Is it time to start grooming an heir apparent to Reyes?  Sorry I don't want anyone to inherit from the current "protege".
My guess is that this one is a kid or a parent of a kid, who might play QB.  Or could just be sour grapes...or fair weather fan...or just a non- supporter of the Brook.  Either way, should be ignored.  Thanks for supporting the team.
20. You do realize that just a few years ago, BC was a doormat (no offense to BC, just the facts) in football year in and year out.  Every program goes through cycles.  BC is going through a good stretch right now.  OF also has had very little success over a number of years, but they have had success in the past.  Numbers do matter (enrollment at the high school level), but the quality of kids, coaching and support from parents (and lack of interveningh) also matter as well.  Newton is able to compete year after year because there is a thing called tradition.  No kid growing up in Newton wants to be on the team that doesn't make the playoffs or loses to their rival.  There is alot of pride in that smalltown.  The same way WO-S has been all these years, even as their numbers have dropped.  HF has always had some impressive athletes taking the field, they just never seem to gel at the right time.  Seems like the last few yeras they have had a few baseball only players, OF has had the same thing the last several years.  This only hurts the programs at smaller (3A and below) schools.  Anahuac was the same way until Coach Barbay got there, lots of athletes but no real success, but within a year and a half, they were a perennial playoff contender.  Give Coach Price his time.
21.
I guess Buna can now remember the last time someone had 200 yards rushing against them.
Yeah, quite sure noone at this game will ever forget this contest anytime soon.  Twine was really impressive to watch, as well as Williams for Buna.  Amazing game by both offenses.
22. Not sure that it was missing defense, just some incredible strong running.  Twine is a beast for the Hornets.  Williams was a beast for Buna.  Fourth quarter was something to see.  But yeah, there was a lack of defensive highlights.
23. Hats off to both the Twine brothers for an amazing game tonight in Buna.  Jordan is good, but Justin is simply amazing.  Not sure how tough he is to bring down, because we couldn't catch him to bring him down.  Outstanding perfomance gentlemen.  Mr. Twine completely lived up to the hype.  Good luck on the rest of your season.  It was a pleasure to watch you guys tonight.  Amazing game, 64-60 Buna, simply amazing game.  The fourth quarter was like 6 man football.  Back and forth.
24.
The Buna/Hemphill game won't be as close as most people think.
Nice prediction.  BMTSoulja1, I know the Kountze/West Hardin game was probably a good game to watch, but in life there are decisions that you make and not choosing the Buna/Hemphill game, was a bad one.  LOL / JK  Just witnessing the running of Williams from Buna and Twine from Hemphill was such a pleasure.  Twine is the real deal, no doubt.  Hard to bring down, hard to catch.  Good luck to the Hornets as they continue their season.  Great win COUGARS!!!
25. Buna wins on a last second pass from Clark to Askew to get the win over Hemphill by a score of 64-60.  Lynn Williams was a beast for Buna, while Twine lived up to the hype for the Hornets.  Twine is not only hard to bring down, but he's hard to get a hand on period.  If not for a couple of early fumbles by the Hornets, this game could have gone into the 70's tonight.  Williams runs hard and has really good breakaway speed for a big strong runner for the Coogs.  Hats off to both teams tonight, it was a battle until the very last second.  Keep up the winning ways COUGARS!!
