Honest Abe reacted to Mamba in Travel/AAU Teams
S/o to everyone who played in the Kingwood ,Under Armour and Gauntlet you guys represented SETX well ....SBG,DEFENDERS-DILL,DEFENDERS-KRAEMER ,DEFENDERS-BRADY, TEAM STAGE,GOLDEN TRIANGLE TOP GUN ,TEXAS FUTURE BASKETBALL.
Ps ..doesn't matter who the best team in SETX is that's all for show ,end of the day we have to make noise outside these parameters. Support from each would be key , I see Dallas teams do it, Houston teams do it,but not SETX it has to get better. Some of these adults step to the side and allow these kids to be friends even though their playing for different teams . -

Honest Abe reacted to ST413 in Travel/AAU Teams
Exactly...yes I know about players getting exposure and playing time but to me the best benefit of summer ball is giving these kids a positive place to be instead of being out on the streets all the time. -

And I'm sure each team serves a purpose or they would not exist. Definitely give kids an outlet to play during the summer.

Honest Abe got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in Most Athletic kids
Here is something to ponder:
Put Jordan Hunter in a Kountze Lions jersey, does he dominate the 3A level in multiple sports as did Arnold? I would suggest that he would dominate. I would also suggest that there are a few more athletes from some of the bigger schools who would do the same. -
Honest Abe got a reaction from Mr. Buddy Garrity in Most Athletic kids
The topic is about who is the most athletic kid (s) in the area. Arnold stands out more so bc he is a great athlete which shows across multiple sports. I could see where a kid specializes in a sport a higher classification and not appear to be 'as athletic' as Arnold bc that kid only plays one sport. My guess is that there are lots of kids not mentioned on this list bc they only play one sport (I used Jordan as an example). Since they are at larger schools, they are unable to display their athleticism to a broader audience.
So many people know Arnold bc he excels at multiple sports whereas a kid from WB or Memorial may be as athletic but not be as well known.
I'm thinking this list should be much longer, but it isn't. -

Smh. Some of these dude talking all of this mess about the 22 5a vs. 21 5a matchup. But are ALL of these 21-5a teams a serious threat to win state? You would think that listening to this sweep jibber jabber.. -

Honest Abe reacted to #62jjohnson in The Ridiculousness of Houston Scarborough making the Playoffs
I just dont understand this . I thought the point of getting to play in the playoffs was you have to WIN . Now you will have teams with losing records complain about an 0-10 team in the playoffs . back in the day you had teams that played 7 district games and if you lost 1 game you may not make the playoffs. Hell , you may share the district title and not make payoffs so i could see 2 teams from the district going . Just think of how many teams up until 1982 could have won state titles or had long playoff runs if 2 teams per district could go too the playoffs ? Many teams going 9-1 , 8-2 didnt make the playoffs , nowadays you have teams getting in with losing records , and now a winless team ? Ridiculous !!! But we should expect this because now you have All district Picks that use to be about 13-14 per offense and defensive players on both sides of the ball make 1st team . Nowadays you have 24-26 players on just one team . which is almost 50 players total on the offense and defense . Then that same amount on the second team and Lets not talk about honarable mentions . that would mean every kid that suits up makes an honor ? Can you say watered down !! So with that being said i guess in a few years every team in every district will be elgible for the playoffs no matter if you earn it or not . -
Honest Abe reacted to bullets13 in HJ------WO-S inside look
To me the fact that we're 8-0 against a pretty tough schedule says a lot. This team is much improved from last year. HJ improved a lot from start to finish last year in their new offense, and they've improved a whole lot more this year from the end of last as they've gotten comfortable with it. I'm not one of the HJ fans that think HJ is a favorite, or even thinks they have a great chance of winning. But they do have a team that is capable of pulling off the upset. I'll admit I'll be surprised if HJ wins, but I'll be a lot more surprised if WOS wins by more than a couple of TDs. If HJ can limit turnovers they should be able to sustain some drives and shorten the game. Their qb pressure should keep JD moving around and not give him the time to pick them apart in the secondary as badly as he's been doing to other teams the last couple of weeks. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I DO think that had HJ caught WOS at the beginning of district, when Dallas was still trying to find his rhythm and HJ was still fresh, HJ would've had a VERY good shot at the upset. But now that the stangs have their offense clicking to go along with that D, it's going to be a tough row to hoe for the hawks. -

Honest Abe got a reaction from NedDog in West Column: Mid County Madness has soared to new heights
Not surprised the BE didn't cover it. Anyone who has lived in Mid-County all of their life knows that the BE doesn't cover Ned/PNG sports teams very much. It's one of the main reasons we stopped subscribing to them years ago. -

Honest Abe reacted to Brubaker in Nederland 35 Port Neches-Groves 28/Final
This rivalry is more about the exchange Sage Seay and Adam Morse had on twitter than it is about baby powder on a track, or how one student section behaved versus another one. This rivalry is about respect, and the players have it for each other. The communities should follow their lead, good job boys.

Unbelievable game for two weeks in a row for the Dogs! This game is as advertised. It doesn't get more exciting than this.
Way to go Dogs. You played against another explosive offense and held your ground just enough to win. Very proud of this team for not letting the momentum get away from them.
