1. That's what I'm saying. When a player wants to come to your school, you ask questions. I assume Peterson told Briles what he knew and still signed a clean transfer. Maybe that included domestic violence,  maybe not. It did include details about insubordination,  missing practice,  etc... none of which appear on the transfer form, but all red flags IMO.

Guys get second chances all over college football everyday. Some workout, some don't, and a few blow up in your face. This obviously blew up in his face. What makes it a nightmare is some other person suffered because of it instead of a kid just messing up their own life. If Briles knew about the domestic abuse then he should flat out be fired, no reason for that trash to play anywhere. Personally, I doubt Briles knew about the abuse, but he did say he knew about the other stuff. They have had success taking second chances (Phil Taylor, Shawn Oakman, Lache Seastrunk) and they hadn't caused any issues. They obviously need to rethink their policy on taking them now though.

  2. Both programs are at fault here.  I get the feeling Peterson told Briles personally what was up with this kid. He then signed off on the transfer request and allowed the kid to leave. Headache gone.

Happens all the time even at the high school level.  Not necessarily involving this degree of misconduct, but it does happen to a lesser extent.

Bottom line, if you don't want fleas, don't lay with dogs.

It is possible that neither of them knew of the violence with his ex girlfriend. She did testify during the rape trial that she had never reported to police Unless if she lied under oath I would take that to mean no one else knew.

Boise did know that he had punched out a window when he was drunk. Stupid, yet not a crime or anywhere close to punching a woman.

  3. It's being reported that the jury recommended 8 years and the judge cut the sentence to 180 days.

His name- Judge Matt Johnson, Baylor Class of '86

This is incorrect. A judge cannot take an 8 year sentence and turn it into probation like that. The jury sentenced him to 8 years and probated it (meaning 8 years probation). The judge then upped it to 10 years probation with 180 days of jail time. Like a lot things in this case one thing is being reported, then another thing is being said, few know what actually happened. What we do know is the kid raped some poor girl, he shouldve gotten more than what he did, but at least they did find him guilty of it.

  4. Liberty v BH?  Rivalry?  There was no rivalry like the Dayton v Liberty rivalry.  Thats what the season revolved around back then.  I remember when D Douglas ran all over us & could throw the ball a mile.  Remember the fights the week leading up to the game and of course other teenage nonsense that went on with the rivalry (statute of limitations may not be up yet).  There would be 5-7k people at the games and to me it didn't get any better.  Not sure what the head to head record is but i'm sure Dayton has the edge. Unfortunately the City of Liberty has failed to develop.  To have that rivalry back would be awesome.  Guess for now Dayton will settle for BH & Crosby.

Liberty and Dayton haven't played for a long time. I have heard stories of the Liberty and Dayton rivalry, but I was born in 1985 and I don't recall ever seeing a Liberty/Dayton game. I am not saying it wasn't an intense rivalry, but I can only pull from my experience in my post. Through the 90s and early 2000s Liberty and Barber's Hill was as close as Liberty got to a rivalry as that game almost always decided the district title with few exceptions. It wasn't one of the rivalries that had people hating the other side, it was just based off of solid football teams that nearly were always at the top of their district. I enjoyed watching that and hope Liberty can get back to that level for their town and school's sake. I am unsure that Liberty will ever grow to get back to playing Dayton. They will probably need to settle with their new rivals.

  5. I grew up in Liberty (went to school there through 8th grade and went to Baytown Sterling for highschool), I had a sister graduate from there, and my parents still live there. When I was a kid the football in Liberty was good (90s through early 2000s). Liberty put multiple kids into D1 schools who started and even had some NFL experience (Donald Douglas - UofH and NY Giants, Anthony Chambers - Purdue and New Orleans Saints, Tony Bua - Arkansas and Miami Dolphins, and Reggie White - Oklahoma State and Jacksonville Jaguars) all come to mind. I don't really understand why they fell off, but most towns do come on some hard times. Odds are Liberty will find a way back eventually to being respectable again, but that district is brutal. It reminds me a lot of the reason why Liberty rarely advanced far in the playoffs in the 90s. They would win the district and then get to play Newton in the first round. Even with some of Liberty's best teams Newton was just too much for them to handle.

Personally, I like Liberty's stadium and I think a lot of Liberty people like the stadium (could be wrong, dunno), but I think they could use an upgrade on the field. I don't know if it just needs some more care or taken out and replaced with turf. It doesn't really matter to me, but the field itself could use some work. The stadium is fine for the size school Liberty is. I have some good memories of classic Liberty/Barber's HIll showdowns for district titles in that stadium in the 90s through the early 2000s. Was fun to see the stadium full and people bringing up lawn chairs to line the fence. It would be nice to see that type of excitement in Liberty again for the Panthers. In a weird way it seems like Liberty's demise sort of coincided with Barber's Hill's move to the higher classification. Maybe they just lost their nemesis, I dunno but it would be nice for Liberty to figure it back out.

  6. Against who though??
I have way more faith in a Paterson D than a Phill Steele D. Based on history

    Baylor's Schedule - Big 12 + SMU, FCS Team, @Buffalo

TCU's Schedule - Big 12 + SMU, FCS Team, Minnesota

Obviously, Minnesota is better than Buffalo, other than that the schedules aren't any different. Unless you want to argue the fact that Baylor gets the luxury of not facing its own offense that rolled up 800 yards on that vaunted TCU defense. I will give you that.

At the end of the year will be a true comparison, but as of now Baylor is statistically head and shoulders the better defense this year. And just for a comparison nationwide, right now Baylor's defense in yards per game is 14th in the NCAA at 322.2 ypg. TCU is 47 at 378.8 ypg.

It cost 300, 000 to go to Baylor for four years can'trreally top that
really? 300K? Tuition really went up in the past 5 years from when I was there...Baylor is expensive, but even if he wasn't getting a full ride they pretty much offer merit scholarships to incoming freshman if they are decent students that get the tuition price close to what a state school would cost if you had no scholarships going there...

Baylor isn't an engineering school, but I have friends that graduated with engineering degrees and they are all doing well...lot of folks hiring engineers right now you just have to do a bit more work to find a job instead of graduating from an "engineering school"...and if his goal is to go on to some type of professional school or get a PhD then Baylor is a great school for that...

Panther FB field (war Memorial stadium)Right beside the old high school that's now the Jr.High.From Dayton turn left off 90 between the old Lewie Majors store and the Exxon gas station.Go north about 6 blocks and it's there 8)
this is right...but the school that is there now is the pre-elementary school (pre-k through 1st)...they tore down the old high school/ junior high a couple years ago and built a new junior high by the current high school and a new pre-k through 1st school where the junior high was

doesn't really matter for directions, but figured i'd share anyway...
  9. I am unsure what Beaumont Central or any other school in Beaumont has to do w/ The Game in Baytown...it has been at least 10 years since Central was in the same district as either Sterling or Lee....Westbrook may care to take a peak to see if Sterling decided to wake up from their ridicously long slumber, but I seriously doubt they care that much either (and who would blame them?)....

Sadly, The Game in Baytown has all but lost its' luster...it used to be a huge deal (at least around Baytown)...maybe if they did shut down Lee then Sterling and GCM could start something...still waiting on them to play each other, i think it is weird that they havent...

I'll be pulling for RSS...two things though:

First, is it a losing streak? I thought Sterling won 2 years ago and lost last year, but could be mistaken.

Second, do away with REL??? Is GCCISD even considering that? If they have then that is the first I have heard of it.
It is just something I have been hearing. Many rumors but I have said on here that I think Lee will be gone within 5 - 10 years and there will be a 2 school system again

    Just my opinion tho
oh ok...interesting thought...seems like there is too much history at REL for them to do away with it completely....i would be shocked if that happened, but who knows with the way things are going...at one point when i was in school they were about to merge Sterling and Lee then a couple years later they decided to just make a 3rd school...they seem to have wide swings on what they plan to do...
  11. dunno how much money gccisd gets off of games but you'd figure there would be monetary reasons to keep the lee/sterling game...there are by far more people at that game than any other for each team the past several years...you get rid of that game you'd figure they would lose some money...barber's hill may travel to watch them play sterling with no prob but the sterling folks won't care and no one outside of the players families and band/cheerleaders families and a few students will show...sterling/lee is another story, people come watch that just for the heck of it...obviously that is a result of the product on the field and if sterling was good more would come regardless of the opponent but still, even when either sterling or lee are good its hard to top the attendance numbers for either team for any game minus playoffs compared to the sterling/lee game...

that said, i figured they wouldve started sterling and gcm playing a couple years ago to get some money and interest going in that game and they havent...so who knows what they are thinking in the administration office...
