1. Good start for the Dogs but still got a lot of work to do before district.  Score could have been worse if not for missed free throws and some easy shots.  Defense was as was previously stated tenacious.  Keep working hard DOGS!!!
 2. starting lineup  smith, wagner, pitts, mitchell, landry
 3.
There's no reason for marijuana to be illegal.
Regardless of whether you think it should be legal or illegal does not matter.   Unless the law changes people know it is illegal and have to accept the consequences if they choose to smoke it.  I didn't like it when the speed limit was 55 but had to abide by it or accept the ticket.  A person can't pick and choose which laws they will obey and which ones they will ignore.
 4. The tournament is over and done with, so the only thing you accomplish is venting your frustration.  There's never total agreement on decisions that are made but the manager has the right.  There are two different philosophies on issues such as these: 1.)  The Manager manages the team and leaves parenting to the parent.  Meaning he does what he thinks will get the team to the next game period and tells the parent to deal with the problem and attitude.  or 2.)  The coach potentially sacrifices a win for the team to make a point with one player and takes it out of the parents hands. Either one is right in my book.  It is easier for me to make the decision as a parent than if I were coaching.  Please, let this go and applaud the players who were about the team, hope the player learns he is not the center of the universe before he screws up a scholarship, and respect the time and effort the coaches put into the team.  They were put in a no win situation in which some will agree with their decision and others won't.
 5. Admin, can you post the game schedule for the East Texas State Tournament July 9-11 the Mid-County Senior Babe Ruth is hosting?(Both 16 year old and 17-18 year old tournaments)
 6. Didn't want to start a debate on weighted balls.  I'm not a fan of them either.  That's been hashed and rehashed a number of times on here and nothing has been resolved.  Those that believe in them are not swayed nor are those who oppose them.  My point was simply to suggest that a parent, due to the large number philosophies and styles out there,  should explore all options, and find the best fit for your player because coahing is not a one-size fits all especially when younger kids are involved.
 7.
If the Yankees don't win it all, their coach should be fired!   :D :D
You're sure right about that! :D  Red Sox will have Jacob Pitts, Tyler Smith, and Justin Ridgeway back next game...hopefully will add some offense.  Any word on games for Wednesday and Thursday?
 8.
I'm looking for a pitching coach for my 10 year old in the Mid-County area.... any suggestions?
Just send him next door...lol.  Seriously all of the coaches mentioned are good and no one is better than the next.  You need to visit the various coaches and make sure you buy in to their program.  Some use weighted balls and other stress long toss......also each has a different way of dealing with players...most will let you come and try their program out so find the one that can build the rapport with your kid to get the most out of him.  At 10, he needs to enjoy it or he may lose interest.
 9.
Will the jury hurry up and make a decision, Monte needs a decision before school gets out. :D If we are going to continue to post B.S. how about this. Everything hinges on the 45 minute Flag Football game next week. That will determine the starter. Funny stuff. Bottom line, best player will be on the field !
Now that's funny! :D :D
 10. Silly...You make valid points about parents pushing their own kids on here.  I try to refrain from it but felt it was so ludicrous for it to be said that a player who DHed shouldn't be considered for recognition as DH that I had to respond.  I may of went overboard.
 11. PNG played monday so they did not meet as scheduled.  I think Big Dog was answering the question of when it is announced based on past years and then stated an opinion on who they think should make it.  I say that because there are some schools not represented on the list and I have never seen that happen.  I would bet it will be next week before it is decided.
 12. If they will not announce it, then how do you know? ???
 13. Great job Dogs!!!  Any word on the Budah Hays and Montgomery series?
 14. I really wished the back and forth would have stopped.  Trying to compare classes is really impossible to do.  Since my two sons have attended NHS there was not single year except Jordan's Freshman year of basketball that a class had all but one of it's players stay at the freshman level.  Josh Dean, Jordan, Jude Vidrine, and Trey Terracina never played a complete season together until their Junior year.  Jordan and Josh never played freshman baseball.  Jude and Trey only played freshman half a season.  That's a variable you can't control.  My other son's class has provided starters and relief pitching for last year's Regional Finalist in baseball and are waiting to see how far they go this year maybe 254 and will return most of the starters for next year except outfield. ;D  That class provided most of the players on the 2010 Area Finalist basketball team as well.(That basketball team was the first to have Brian English for a full four years a variable you can't control)  Anthony Babino, Trevin Sonnier, and Stephen Schlett never played freshman baseball and Jacob and Tyler Smith split time between JV and Freshman.  That class never all played together.  Jacob is the first player since the fifties to be able to say he was an active player on the District Champs in both basketball and baseball at the Varsity level.  My point to saying all of this is that there are always too many variables(who the coach is...players moved up...injury issues..etc) to simply try to compare classes.  When you get to high school the classes intermix and become one team the BULLDOGS!  There is no I in team!  Once again I am excited about the past, present, and future of Bulldog Athletics!  So be part of the team and enjoy the ride, the present and future are bright, or change the screenname to BulldogFreshmanBacker only. ;)  I know you support us it's just a joke.
 15. Have you heard Nederland's Varsity has a game tonight.....there are no more underclass games so this thread is dead...Everyone needs to move on and enjoy the playoffs.
 16. Nederland baseball has the pieces this year to go deep and it's good to know they will have enough returning and coming up to continue the roll that was started with the run last year.  Go Dogs!!
 17.
Of the 5 listed players, Cardenas(Ned), Brady(Ned), Reyenga(PNG), Jalali(PNG) and Mojica (Vidor), who has the highest on-base percentage average do you think?

mojica and trae should be locks for 1st team
So should Mike!
Who from the top two teams(Cardenas(Ned), Brady(Ned), Reyenga(PNG), and Jalali(PNG)) does Mojica beat out?  He's a good player but would he start ahead of these four guys?  I think Mojica is a 2nd Teamer this year.  There's only two pitchers that should get 1st team ahead of T. Hester and that is Laird and Bellow.  Bellow will be MVP so Laird and T. Hester should both be 1st Team pitchers.  I can see M. Hester competing for 1st team catcher.

I know from Nederland it would be Cardenas but OBP is only one stat....if your leadoff then it obp more important than if your in the 2 hole like Brady where you are often expected to sacrifice the leadoff over......or if you are in the 4 hole like Cardenas where you are expected to produce rbis.....batting over .400 Cardenas should be 1st Team for 2nd year straight....Brady is also batting over .400 and has been solid defensively so he as well should be 1st Team.

Hester(P); Hagler(P/3B); M. Hester(C); Mojica(OF) LCM:  S. Waddell(1B); Landry(SS) Lum:  Bell(P); Bingham(C) Liv:  ?? Ozen:  Nobody Cen:  Nobody Defensive MVP:  Babino(C) since he doesn't get to bat with Pitts as DH. I know my opinion seems weighted to the top three teams in district but I believe those three teams are that much better than the rest due to talent level.  I also know there are probably some I missedbut off the top of my head these are the players that have stuck out.
No Maxwell or Peno for Vidor..?
Not with the other players at their positions.
Then please clue me in on who the 4 guys in the district are that have out-played these two at their position...?
Sonnier, Stone, and Landry at SS. Rhame, Waddell, Erickson,  Laird and Bellow(will both be all district as pitchers so I guess you don't count them) at 1st
that's 3 shortstops, not 4.. and if Laird and Bellow are 1st team pitchers, that's 3 1st basemen. I was under the impression there were 4 spots, 2 on each team. But correct me if i'm wrong.
Depends on the coaches.  Last year there was one first teamer and one 2nd teamer and no honorable mention;  year before one first teamer and two 2nd teamers; year before that everybody who played got recognized either as 1st team, 2nd team, or honorable mention.  All District will be watered down if they recognize 4 players at each position.  Also, whether deserved or not, every school will get representatives which means a player that deserves it will get knocked out.

Friday night is Senior Night at the Dogpound.
Should be a special night............savor the moment.
I didn't think Nederland had very many seniors. I thought they had most of their starting nine returning.
Seniors:  Bellow, Laird, Brady, Cardenas, Williams, Williamson, Hammond, & Broussard.  Great bunch of guys that Jordan was fortunate to play with and Jacob is fortunate to continue to play with.   The rest of the team is as follows:  Juniors:  Sonnier, Schlett, Babino, Pitts, Smith; Sophomores: Brown, Fontenot;  Freshman:  Raines.
 20.
i've heard "tacky" comments from announcers at nederland baseball and football games.... mainly football games. it doesn't seem as "tacky" when it's your announcers and your team and you are the one on the wrong side of a call. you mostly remember the ones when you're the visitor. it shouldn't happen, but it does on occasion. it's not like this is the first time it has occurred.
You've never heard comments even remotely close to what was said by the Vidor announcer last night at  Nederland baseball games.  I can't attest to football.  Vidor ISD should be embarassed and the administrator on duty needed to grow a pair after the first comment and take  control before the 2nd comment regarding umps needing an escort was made.  The announcer is a hypocrite....read a list of rules and be the first to violate them. Quit trying to excuse poor and unprofessional behavior.  Now the players played hard and this issue is taking away from that fact.  Good luck to Vidor as they move forward and Go Dogs!
 21. This sounds like a self serving thread.  This is high school not the pros.  You have personel changes each year due to graduation.  The coaches then decide what lineup will help your team win based on who remains and who moves up.  That's all that matters.  You can say it should be Forney's to lose or you could say Smith should not lose the position due to injury.  It depends on who your loyal too.  Ultimately depend on the coaches to do what is best for the team.
 22. Reread my post I didn't say tie PNG.  If Vidor doesn't win monday and then loses to Livingston friday, it will be LCM that Vidor is tied with not PNG and LCM would hold that tie breaker.

And hopefully these 2 will carry us far into early june! Btw I see Vidor being district runner up tying PNG but the pirates hold the tie breaker.
The year after Nederland got knocked out of playoffs due to head to head with LCM, I was told the tie breaker was changed to be a play-in/seeding game.  Is this true or is the tie breaker still head to head? IMO Bellow is 20-4A MVP and Laird is 1st Team Pitcher this year.  Laird has stood out and has proven he can pitch against any team.  I don't understand why he hasn't been signed yet.  No need to change the rotation.  If Nederland's bats stay hot, Bellow will only need to pitch 2-3 innings(no more than a routine bullpen) against Livingston before the coach could comfortably go to the very deep bullpen(Pitts, Smith, Brown, Raines, Brady, and Cardenas).   Bellow would then be available for relief if needed monday.  Great position to be in!
You heard correct.  If two teams have same record, they are tied. No matter if one team beat the other twice already or not.
imo that's a dumb rule, they should definitely go with head to head wins, then if the teams are 1-1 against eachother there should be a seeding game
Unless Vidor loses it's last two and ends in a tie with LCM, then you will want a seeding game.
 24. Tie-breaker if needed for any place is a seeding game.
