2. Saturday made it very interestinfor the final three games.  PNG plays on the road for 2 of the games(LCM and Central) and home against Vidor; Vidor plays on the road(Central & PNG) and home against Livingston; Livingston plays on the road(Ozen & Vidor) and home against LCM; LCM has home(PNG & Nederland) road(Livingston).  IMO 4th place is going to have a losing record:  PNG ends up 6-8; Vidor ends up 5-9; Livingston 5-9; LCM 4-10.  The key game to decide if Livingston ties PNG or not is their final game at Vidor.  I just think the road games will be losses for these teams.  Central should win out and finishes 10-4 in 3rd;  Ozen wins at least 2 of 3 and finishes 11-3 in 2nd;  Nederland wins at least 2 of 3 and finishes at least 12-1 for 1st.  Key game Ozen at Nederland.  Nederland clinches at least a tie for first with a win @ Lumberton Tuesday.
Probably a coin flip, but you never know.  The final game of district is on Feb. 15th, which is a Tuesday and playoffs start that following Fridday.  If each team agrees to play a tie breaker game in between Tuesday and Friday, I assume that it could go down if a neutral site is available...
I hate coin-flips and head-to-head tie-breakers.  I always prefer it be decided on the court/field.  Alot of people say it should be head-to-head but so many variables can effect outcomes(i.e. players out sick; injuries; grades; etc...)  The team you have at playoff time should decide it.

 7. Text from son and e-mail from Coach E. stated all games were on for tonight at same times as last night.
 8.
[Hidden Content]
Todays article in Panews said it wouldn't be decided until sometime this morning.  Son's on the team and he didn't know for certain as of last night.
 9.
Nederland seems to have #1 locked up, with Central right behind them.  Who is getting the last two spots?
Nederland has only locked up a playoff spot.....Ozen and Central are still able to come out on top.....Nederland still has to come out and play every game.  As for as who will make it to the playoffs: Nederland, Ozen, Central for sure.  PNG controls it's own destiny with LCM and Vidor losing last night.
NHS83LU87 posted that 3 week grades have to be in by the 14th of this month.
I did not post that......all I did was asked if he would not play until the last district game?  Someone else posted the 3 weeks comment.
 11.
BMTSoulja1, I don't have any proof, but I also heard that a couple of players were put off the team. I think that it was on JV. Well, Ozen will be without Green for another 2 weeks.Marquis definitely has his work cut out for him, especially with losing your leading scorer for 2 more weeks. edit: I modified your post. We do not allow specific talk on a player regarding his education process.
So Green is out until the final game of district?
 12. You are focusing on only one part of the sentence and not reading the full context.  "For any given extracurricular activity, a student may not participate in more than one activity per school week, excluding holidays."   Each uil activity/sport is it's on separate entity(activity) and for that entity you can only have one event(game/concert/etc.) on a school night during the week.  Each sport is a different UIL activity.  If a student chooses to do so, they could participate in a band concert on monday, a basketball game on tuesday, choir concert on wednesday, a baseball game on thursday, and be in compliance because the rule is for any given extracurricular activity.   Mac is right friday and saturday do not count because they are non-school nights(no school the next day).  The rule is not specific to sports but to UIL events.  So multiple sports at the same time is allowed just like it is allowed for a student to be in jazz band, marching band, and concert band at the same time.
I don't think you are correct or else there might not be a track team.  Players leave to go run track all of the time.
UIL does regulate your participation.  Please refer to  "Limitations on Practice" [Hidden Content]
It limits practice as "per an activity."  Each sport/band/one-act play/etc. is a seperate activity.  Limitations on Practice "For any given extracurricular activity, a student may not participate in more than one activity per school week, excluding holidays. Students are limited to no more than eight (8) hours of practice and rehearsal outside the school day per school week per activity."
"a student may not participate in more than one activity per school week"
You are only taking out a part of the sentence.  You left off "for any given extracurricular activity".  Students particpate in multiple UIL events  all of the time.  This rule applies to all UIL activities not just sports.  Therefore, "any given activity" applies to each different UIL activity or else students would not be able to participate in baseball/track, baseball/soccer, basketball/ baseball, any sport/band, academic competitions, one-act play, choir,  etc.
 14. Can't believe anyone is still arguing about this game.......There are important games tonight.

 17.

I see my posts achieved its goal. Some seem to be a little irritated with my comments. Well let me tell you what irritates me. Several get on here and bad mouth a 14 yr old kid and his father based on their animosity and jealouy alone. I doubt most have seen him play; yet, you continue to hear: he has a bad attitude, doesn't respect the game, can't run the bases, can't hit fast pitching, slow foot speed, won't make varsity because----on and on and on. For now, this freshman was issued a varsity uniform. It is possible he may not keep it, but I believe his talent and work ethic will prevail. To the good people on here, I apologize for my retaliatory, over the top, comments. I know this young man and his family and my irritation got the best of me. To the doubting Thomas', if this youngster isn't special-- than why all the controversy, over a freshman 6 wks prior to varsity tryouts. What is truly hilarious, all those who are bad mouthing this kid now will be the same yelling and cheering for him to succeed when the games begin.
cooligan, no problem coming on the board and promoting this young man but you are playing at Nederland. You look foolish when this school has a laundry list of Pro and Div 1 players including one at UT 6 months removed.
The problem ultimately is that mostly adults are on here doing the talking and they don't consider who actually pays the price.  The player hasn't done anything to deserve to be bad mouthed in front of me.  Some making the negative comments are doing so because they don't like his dad.  I would hate for my kids to be misjudged, mistreated, or derided because someone didn't like me.(It actually happened one year)  It's just wrong.  Wait and see what happens and then make an educated judgement on the player himself.
 18.
Really surprised English is letting this kid see the baseball field.I know other programs will not let varsity basketball players practice until the season is over.
Unlike some coaches(and not just basketball coaches), Coach E. supports players who have the desire to play more than one sport.  My older son, Jordan, and Josh Dean would practice with the baseball team when it didn't conflict with a basketball practice or game and Jacob did the same last year.  Essentially that means Saturday practices and/or scrimmages with bullpens thrown by pitchers during the week after basketball practice.  I appreciate that he does support these players.
 19.
It is nice to have a tall first base man that has athleticism. It cuts down on throwing errors from infielders.IMO Pitts and Weisbrod are the best we have.Unfortunately their skills also make them good basketball players.Others will get their shot at first base until these two finish basketball season.
Unless things change, Coach is only working Pitts in the outfield and pitching.
 20.

They had a handful of scouts at the Nederland Tournament earlier this year, but I don't really know if they were there for Nederland as much as they were there for Ball, and a couple of the other teams there.
Thats why it is important to play in venues with 'superstars" because as they are watching them, Little Johnny might have something that draws their attention ;)
Not to mention it prepares you for a tough district race!
 21. Don't think the sweat suits or wind suits look professional....Business Casual or better does!  District is different than non-district.  I like that Nederland coaches and team dress up for out of town district games.  It shows pride and unity in the program!
 22. Yes they can.  Anything can happen.  You would have never convinced me that Nederland baseball would have made an early exit last year but bats went cold at the wrong time.  All it takes is a team to get on a hot shooting streak or go cold to change an outcome.
