  1. Wouldn't one of the successful high school coaches in the area have a better chance to win at LU than most of the middling college coaches that they usually look at who know nothing about the talent in SETX? I know experience matters, but it can't get any worse than it already is. Just a thought,
  2. I was a HUGE LU fan growing up and the only time I was in that building was when we played WOS in a bi-district playoff game in '88. I remember walking up to the area where the arena is and looking around for a few minutes in awe of it. Great memory. I hope the money that was donated goes toward whatever infrastructure that the teams need.
  3. Tupac would still be alive if the Cards were shooting at him.
  4. Yikes. They're shooting .244 from deep, which 362nd according to the Score app. The advanced stats overall are dreadful. They could pull 15 football players and swap them out with no noticeable difference statistically.
  5. Where is he going to college? Has he decided?
  6. Yeah. Jasper got hosed multiple times that way. It's just a reminder that everything matters during the course of a game, regardless of the rules that determine the winner.
  7. Good season, Tigers. Hate to see anyone from our area lose a game that way. I guess it's better than penetrations, but still.
  8. LSU's been kind of a mess lately with institutional control issues, but they should be applauded for this.
  9. My post didn't age well at all. They redeemed themselves in the second half. 🤣🤣
  10. Watching the LU/Huston-Tillotson game. The Cards are down 42-41 because they can't defend the 3-point line. One of the H-T guys is raining threes and has 23 points. Historically, Lamar boat races this team.
  11. They've got to be over 400 yards already and the Mustangs don't have a single first down yet.
  12. I still remember when we beat Cleveland at their place 82-0 in 1989. I think we outgained them something like 700 yards to -10. We knew going in that it was gonna be really ugly, but not like that. I thought it was fun at the time, but I don't see it that way now. We didn't run it up too often under Coach Walkoviak, but I also remember a 70-0 bi-district playoff win over Crosby a few years before that.
  13. You're welcome, man. I always wanted to move back home and follow in Art's footsteps. I'm sure you knew him pretty well. Anyway, it would be cool for you to just "show up" and call a few games.
  14. I'm sure a lot of them simulcast like KJAS does for now, but I think you're right. It'll die out eventually at the high school level. Radio is still very big at the college and pro levels.
  15. I like Scott Loar, who is the commentator that Jasper brought in most of the time, but he goes over the top even for a homer. Ron Vickers has gotten better doing play-by-play, but he struggles a bit with what's happening at times. It's not a shot at either of them, but just an objective observation. We were spoiled by one of the best local announcers around for 40 years. He's a hard act to follow. I don't know who does Silsbee's games now, but Mike was exceptional as was Gary Stelly in Orange. I'm an audiophile, so I listen to more games than I watch. We had three really good ones in SETX for a long time.
  16. Yeah. I saw him do that many times at practice. He was our punter and could kick a 35-40 yard field goal if we ever needed to. Back then, we had a guy that had maybe 50-yard range that ended up kicking at Tulane. Anyway, there wasn't a thing in sports that Ben couldn't do better than most.
  17. It was a good ballgame and that call made a difference, but Jasper needs to learn to persevere through stuff like that. We had opportunities to make plays and we didn't. I understand Coach Crumedy's frustration, but I'm sure he knows he could projected it in a better way. He'll be fine and so will those kids. That's just a tough one to lose.
  18. Good game, Tigers! Hope both teams will go far enough to meet again!
  19. That was uncalled for and I'm sure he's coached not to do that no matter what the situation is. Criticism goes with the territory. It would be the same for our kids in that situation. I'm sure he'll learn from it.
  20. I know the rivalry as well as anybody and agree that it's huge for both schools. My point was that it might be bigger for us because expectations from people around SETX weren't that high going into the season and winning this district would signal great things for our program going forward. You guys are on track to contend for state and this game might not be as big as others down the road. I'd like to think that we could make a deep run also, but a lot would have to come together for us to be true contenders this year. Looking forward to chatting with you guys after the game on here. Go Dawgs!
  21. True, but what they ran last year was a joke. I know they lost their OC right before the season started, but they couldn't run anything well. I think this year was about trying to get the younger kids used to what he runs. If he can find a true dual-threat quarterback, they'll score a ton of points. Does that contradict what I said before? Sure, but I think he'll adapt if his system bottoms out and the kids can't run it.
  22. You would think that coaches value being in the best position to win over sticking to a system that doesn't suit the kids' strength as players. When you strip it down to the screws, it's the coaching staff's biggest job to help them be as successful as possible on and off the field. I like Coach Crumedy so much because the kids come first and he's committed to teaching them success in every way possible.
  23. I trust Greg implicitly and I'll be watching from here in Albuquerque. This game feels huge for us even though Tiger Nation might not see it quite the same way. Go Dawgs!!
