  1. The other plus is that they have plenty of money to get a proven winner. I'd like to see Mickey Joseph win a bunch of games and earn the job. He's a great closer in recruiting and a really good coach. Fred Hoiberg might be next if the basketball team starts off slow. I think Alberts is ready to move on from the coaches in the athletic program that are underperforming.
  2. Yep. Another guy that's mouth is writing checks that his *** can't cash.
  3. Most people thought Frost was the best possible hire when NU brought him in, but it just didn't work. Receivers coach Mickey Joseph will take over on an interim basis. It'll be interesting to see which direction AD Trev Albert chooses to go.
  4. I don't think any of us expected to go through pre-district unscathed and honestly, I have no idea what will happen at home against #1 Franklin (3A-D1). We need to do a lot better than we did tonight, even if we lose.
  5. We took it on the chin tonight. Our offense couldn't run the ball and we couldn't stop the run when we had to. Lots of dropped balls, too. Newton deserves credit. They were better than us.
  6. KJAS.com should have it. They usually post a link to the feed on their website right before kickoff.
  7. You're right, especially about this week. Jasper's run defense should be better now that TyAnthony Smith is back, Newton's probably going to have to throw more than they want to in this game. The key in my mind is how our offense matches up with the Eagles' defense. I'll take the Dawgs in a close one, 26-20.
  8. He reminds me a lot of Coach Pickle in the way that he focuses on developing young men. Intangibles are especially important at this level on and off the field and Coach could probably teach a master class to other coaches on the value of that. We've already seen how that translates in games....
  9. Great comeback! Gotta clean some stuff up (penalties especially), but we saw a snowball turn into an all-out avalanche really quickly. It's only the beginning....
  10. Great job by the kid that caught the pass off of the deflection. It's a lot better to be 1-0 than 0-1.
  11. Yeah. We were spoiled with Mr. Lay and a lot of the guys he called games with for so long. He was so polished and guys like Ken Poston and Coach Brack added a lot to those games.
  12. I'm not going to be able to see it. If you go onto the KJAS website, they will have a link to the stream right before the game starts.
  13. [Hidden Content] It's in the last paragraph of the article.
  14. It's okay that we're under the radar. We like it that way...
  15. I saw that KJAS will be streaming games again this season. Are Ron Vickers and Johnny Mecom still calling the games?
  16. Agreed. Maybe that'll happen next year. My assumption is that we'll be in their district when realignment is announced in 2024.
  17. Spend some time at Rayburn if you get a chance...and go to the Cedar Tree Restaurant in town.
  18. I'm not one to post irrational stuff about Jasper and anyone that pays attention knows that. Coach Crumedy has historically run 45 ppg offenses and with that elite defense, the Dawgs should be a dangerous team. They'll have to prove that they belong in the "state bound" category and I think they will at some point, but I would be surprised if it happened right away.
  19. They're about 55 students bigger than Newton. It would be fun to see those two schools throw down,
  20. I'm interested to see how we do against Many. They were outstanding last year and played for the Louisiana 2A state title. If we're really that much improved over last year, we may not have much trouble with them. It's a tough scrimmage to read...
  21. When did JHS integrate? I would guess the overall level of play got better in a hurry at that point.
  22. Our old stadium is a couple of miles from the field house next to JHS and we bussed back and forth for probably 45 years. That's not really a huge deal, but it gave the players a few minutes of quiet time to reflect on what they needed to do. I don't remember ever hearing a peep on the way over there when I happened to be on the bus. We've got a really nice setup now for all sports, but I kinda wish a fraction of that money had been spent to improve the old stadium, add parking, etc. It was just an amazing place to experience games.
  23. Jasper's J.H. Rowe High School. I have a ton of love for the schools that were rivals of the Bulldogs, too, like Lincoln and Hebert. Bringing this subject up is a great idea.
