I enjoyed watching my grandson playing regularly on Fridays. And especially watching him have a descent MCM game in front of a lot of out of town family that hadn't been able to see him this year. Really thankful that he will have these memories for the rest of his life. He was #30. There were many others, but this was my favorite.

Hey Tod,  been thinking about ya a lot.  Just wanted to check in let you know your in my prayers every day.  We all really appreciate what you have allowed us to do. (Mostly show our ignorance)  and talk sports.  After your playing days are over,  talking and lying about what you once did is all that's left.  This web site is such a great release for so many people.  We all love Southeast Texas football and talking about it.  For that we are all praying that God will wrap his arms around you and give you the healing you need.  I hope you have a good day Buddy. God Bless.

I have to say how Newton man handled Gunter.  Best overall performance I seen.  I live up here close to Gunter and no one gave Newton a chance besides those from the Newton area.

No, I am in no imminent danger of death.
My current medical state prevents me from doing several things, but fortunately breathing isn't one of them. LOL
Thank you, 99, all the same for the prayers and kind words.  They are truly appreciated.

Super proud of what Newton accomplished, and who they did it against.  Absolutely no doubt who the most dominant team in 3A is..  and next year they might be better.
Such a great moment for Coach Johnston and his family.  It’s awesome that Drew got to play for him, and now coach with him.  For someone who has gone through what he’s gone through, against all the odds, and told he had very little chance to survive... couldn’t have happened to a more deserving and better person.
And I guarantee, Coach Barbay is smiling down from above!  Congrats Newton Eagles!

Newton will have to play best game of the year.  No turnovers or stupid penalties.  Gunter is highly disciplined team.  They don't have Newton's speed but make up for it by not making mistakes and great fundamentals.  Just by looking at them they must have a great weight and conditioning program.  Either way Newton has had a great year with a young team and the program will be strong for years to come.

Backer I started not to write this but since you think Newton sucks I couldn't resist.  I do appreciate your team getting our reserves some playing time and good experience scoring on a 4a Div 1 school. Maybe you didn't see them because I know you left early. We have allowed 26 points in the last 8 games and scored 447.  How much devastation do you want?

Football Coach Bill Curry: We Choose What We Worship
Man has always worshipped. If we follow the course of history, we see that the objects of man's worship have varied from the ridiculous to God. As I studied history in high school, I felt that many men had been foolish in choosing what they would worship. I decided that my country must be extraordinary in that our people knew who ought to be worshipped, and how to worship Him.
    Georgia State University
    Bill Curry in 2012.
I actually began to take pride in this knowledge, and to look around myself for the first time. As I looked at the lives of people, I came to the realization that they did not worship God at all, but rather chose objects to worship that were more foolish than any I had read about. I saw boys that actually worshipped automobiles, liquor or the idea of sex. I realized that many men active in my church had placed money first in their lives. I came to know girls that lived only to achieve popularity.
Many may think that men and women could not possibly worship such things, but I think whatever a person places first in his or her life is what he or she worships.
All these thoughts came to me rather suddenly, and it was awhile before I stopped to take a look at myself. What I saw horrified me. For almost twenty years, I had but one god: myself. I saw that almost everything I had ever done had been for number one: Bill Curry. I worked hard in football, basketball and baseball for one reason - to glorify Bill Curry.
I thought that success in sports would ensure success in life, and thought I had arrived when I received a football scholarship to Georgia Tech. After about ten minutes of the first practice at Tech, I knew football was going to be mostly work from then on. I still loved it and do to this day, but I found out the hard way that it was not the way to what man is entitled to in life.
God wants us to worship Him before all other things. If we want to follow God's plan, we will accept the power He offers each of us through Jesus Christ. Without Him, we are powerless, and will always revert to worldly wants. God has shown me a truly wonderful and abundant life through Christ, and I will always be thankful for it and serve Him with all my heart. I say this not in my own strength, but remembering Paul's words in
This is the hidden content, please Sign In or Sign Up : "I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me." Bill Curry, a center for Georgia Tech University football team, is a quiet, soft-spoken gentleman, possessing a winning sense of humor; but on the field he is an aggressive competitor and one of the outstanding linemen of the nation. He writes of his Christian conviction with candor and genuine feeling.

Billy Curry's words were written 50 years ago, appearing in the April, 1964 issue of The Christian Athlete, then FCA's primary publication. Five decades later, the words ring as true today as they did then. Then a center on Georgia Tech's football team, Curry would go on to play professionally for 10 years, winning Super Bowls with the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Colts, before embarking on a coaching career that would take him from his alma mater, Georgia Tech, to Alabama, Kentucky and Georgia State. He also served as a television color commentator for ESPN. Through it all, Curry has been a loyal spokesman for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Newton led the area in points scored and points allowed.  Also stomped two teams who are 3 divisions larger.  Allowed 8 points in district play while pulling starters at halftime.  Only losing 8 seniors. Wait until next year.

You are right.  We all should be very slow to judge.  But some things stick out like a sore thumb and deserve scrutiny.  I have no dog in this fight but if what is being said in this thread is true, it's hard for me not to feel sorry for the kids.  What kind of coach doesn't want to do everything he possibly can to make sure they have the best possible chance of winning ? If you aren't preparing your team to the best of your abilities you are cheating your kids. If kids are already talking about not playing their senior year then the coach has lost his team and they have no confidence in him.  Playing smaller schools is not the answer. If the team is not in condition those smaller schools are going to beat them (San Augustine).  I don't know that I have the answer but with all the upheaval that's gone on in K'ville over the last 9 months it seems politics has taken a front seat ahead of the kids.
