Does anyone know?
If he is still alive I don't know but think I would have heard of his passing. Last I knew, he owned a Barbaque restuarant in Fredickburg Tx. Ate the in the mid 80's and he had some memorbilia in the store and the food was good. He had retired from a career with Imperial Sugar and had spent a good deal of time in California with the company before retiring in Texas. I don't know if you can lookup old articles on SI but that is worth anybody's time who likes Texas HS football.
This is probably the article you are referring to: [Hidden Content]
That is it my friend and I had found it a little while ago, read again and was about to post it on here. Thanks for doing so and I hope all you HS football junkies, young and old will read it. And yes, there really were some good athletes "back in the day" who could play the game. They all just don't play now! -

Did anyone on the board ever read the Sport Illustrated article about Ken Hall in the early 80's? It was titled "Whatever happened to the Sugarland Express" and is my alltime favorite SI artlcle. Was really enlightening and shows that a great HS player has to make the right college decision for his career to advance. My favorite quote in that article was Bear Bryant saying something like "how I handled Ken Hall was the worst mistake in my coaching career". -

WOW, that's a record that will not be broken!!!
Ya, that's probably the hardest one to break. Some crazy #'s on there.
The article says the 35 INT's happened in 1956. I didn't know they threw the ball in the 50's. ;D
He played 56'-58', and had 55 INT's in his career at Brenham. He holds the national record in single season INT's, and is 2nd in career INT's. (Behind Splendora's, Donald Moore who had 59 in his career.)
I saw Donald Moore play against Kountze in HS, he was a great HS RB who didn't pan out in college. He seemed to have it all, speed and shiftyness. You just never know if a kid has it between the ears to make it. -

PAM made him look great. Ozen played WB better in the 2nd half than PAM did all game thus the big passing night. Simply coaching or the lack there of on PAM's part
I agree, to much cushion was given. >:(
A good QB takes advantage of what is given him! ;) -
who will bh play first round?

Probably their opponent will forfeit the game so they may not even have to play! ;D -
Resigned? Amazing. What clown was taping the speech instead of listening to his coach? You don't want Little Johnny getting yelled at, then maybe Little Johnny should do his job on the field.
That little Johnny shouldn't even be on the team. Another sign of what a weak society we are becoming.

WOSGRAD any updates to the numbers? -
The interesting game would be Crosby playing Vidor. Remember Crosby backed out of a game with Vidor just a couple of years ago stating racial issues why they did not want to schedule Vidor for a home and home.
If that happens, I hope Vidor is able not only beat, but run up the score on Crosby pretty good. I am totally against running up the score but this would be one time when it would be nice to see!
I wish the Detroit coach was able to get close to Jim Harbaugh. Harbaugh would have kicked his censored.
You don't know that for sure! Schwartz wasn't afraid to go after him. He might be more than he looks. -

My comment was a general statement about putting people on the field/court who know how to win, does all the small things as well as doesn't kill you with mistakes. That said, you do have to have athletic ability to play and compete. It is a combination of athletic skill and athletic smarts. I am not using this as an argument for Bevil. -

Personnel decision making is one of the most critical aspects of coaching along with the ability to lead and motivate your players. You have to be able to determine who your "winners" are and put them on the field. That isn't always your "sexiest" looking player, or the player who is going to rack up the best statistics. Great coaches understand this and make the right decisions. They also never let their heart get in the way of making the right call. JMHO!!! -
After watching Pearland on TV Thursday night, I would say that as long as PAM doesn't get Katy, they could make a legit run through the region. Beyond that who knows. A lot of good 5A HSFB being played up in the DFW area.
Until the playoffs we don't know. I watched some of the Allen game on TV last week and they do not look dominate. Then they barely won last night. Either all of DFW is really strong or this may be the year DFW is overated. Just have to see how it plays out in the playoffs. One thing is for sure, the major metro's own all fo 5A and most of 4A. You look at the smaller metro's for 5A and they are not represented hardly at all. That is why I would like to see PAM make a big run. I remember when PNG could take on Houston and DFW teams and win. -
When Crosby beat Dayton, they ended up watching Dayton play two more playoff games. Who had the better season? That still doesn't change the fact that when they played head up, Dayton got throttled! On another note, I like you P4E so I am worried about you as the Broncos spiral toward the bottom. Remember, nothing is permanant. This may be a short lived experience of the Broncos looking like "also ran's".
All I want know is why Texas? He should of saw the writing on the wall last week in that whopping OU baby. Texas O is trash
Not with him and Malcom Brown together? With the development of McCoy and Ash and the O-line it will be a force for the next few years. On another note, they should have pulled him a lot earlier. No excuse to brutalize another team like that for the sake of statistics. I am sure the coach and Gray's dad trying to get his name in the national records some more. -
Nederland Vidor PNG Livingston.... That is how I see it playing out....
Those 4 seem to have seperated themselves from the rest. That is how it will probably play out.

AP High School Football Rankings - Just out today!
NorthoftheBorder replied to WOSgrad's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
Wow, Katy and PA Memorial the only Houston area 5A schools. DFW really the 5A kingpin right now. When was the last time Newton didn't at least receive some votes. I don't really consider Coldspring a SETX team. There seems to be fewer and fewer SETX teams in the AP poll. -
What Setx team has the most state titles?
NorthoftheBorder replied to BADSANTA's topic in SETXsports Archived Threads
I am surprised that Charlton Pollard never won a PVIL title! I also thought that SFA won a title. From this list Newton and PNG are the UIL winners.
