Having been at Tech while Knight was there, as both an assistant and for a brieft time as head coach, I was ready for him to be gone.  At the same time, I really think that he can be successful here.  He is a class act who is just getting his feet wet as a head coach.  He has made plenty of mistakes while at Tech, and he can learn from those experiences.  All indications are that he has a good recruiting class coming to Tech next year.  Having been in Texas for the last ten years - recruiting Texas high schools will definitely help him hit the ground running.  I do believe that the days of JUCO dominated Lamar teams may be over. He does have some head coaching experience at other levels (USBL and  IBA) and has worked as an assistant at several different schools.  He worked as a scout in the NBA and assitant coach in the CBA.  Finally, he has one of the greatest college coaches to ever live on his speed dial - who also happens to be an analyst on the four letter network.   I am pulling for him, because I genuinely like him and believe that he loves his players and and will have their backs.
But, can he WIN at this level ???
My thoughts exactly!  He could be the greatest guy in the world and that doesn't mean he will win.  And Ruckdad, in your own post, you stated you were ready for him to be gone in spite of the fact that you liked him.  I just feel that the pattern will be repeated, in spite of all the advantages you just listed

 3. No no say it ain't so.  This place will never be the same!! If you leave I will have to leave with you!!!! :(
 4.

I agree Northoftheborder. How do you continue to recruit the top class every year and turn out a season like last year. Sumpin ain't right in the kitchen.  ;D
I saw Mack doing chest bumps with the LBs yesterday. last time he was doing those antics they won the title that year courtesy of VY. we'll see whats in store this year.  8)
Chest bumping LB's don't mean you can coach.  Brad Stevens of Butler is a guy who can coach (I know he is basketball but he can really coach kids the game)!  Mack can real'em in, but he is not a great coach.  With the talent he has had over the last 12 years, his record should be much better than it is in the big games, more Conference and National Titles.  JMHO.
 5. Brad Stevens may be the best coach in college basketball sans Mike K!  See this is what seperates the "men from the boys".  You don't wait and see who comes to you, you identify who the top talent is and you go and try to hire them!  You think that the top corporations in America put out a add in the paper to hire their top executives?  Please!  They identify who the top talent is and they go after them.  How the search committee should have operated is they should have first went about identifying who the top candidates are in college basketball even if that took a month. You also put together a package that is attractive to recruit and land that type of coach.  Then while you are "running your add" you go and contact those people to sell your program and university.  If you get a few good candidates through the application process, great.  I don't say all this to imply that Terry Johnson is the right person, but he has to have learned something from his time at Butler on how to run a top flight Mid-Major program and he is not even on our radar!
 6. Just think of what UT could be if Mack Brown could coach!  I am a UT fan and Brown has wasted more talent that most coaches get the opportunity to coach in their lifetime.
 7. Went to the open house this afternoon.  WOW!!! It was as good as I heard and something LU fans can all be proud of.  The only thing we didn't get to see was the coaches office.  Particularly impressed with the sports medicine, weight room and home locker room.  Saw Woodard there and shook his hand for the first time.  Wanted to talk some but wasn't the right moment.  Also spoke to Tidwell and asked when the new MBB coach would be hired.  He said that he hoped to have it done by Tuesday.  While I was on the tour in the weight room, saw Dr. Simmons come in and start talking with Tidwell.  You know that the MBB coaching situation was a major topic of their conversation.  Sorry, don't have any insight on where they are going.  I still thinkg that Terry Evans would be the best choice out of who we have on the list, but after thinking about this more would take Knight if Cross was on his staff.
I think you're right.   >:(
Arrrrgh!!!!!  Bad word bad word bad word!!!!!!!  He has no place to go but LU!!!!! >:( >:( >:(
 9. LU should have done an alternating red and black field with green end zones!
 10.

Still think Pat Knight is most likely going to get the job.
Heard the same thing today Dog!!!!!
Good Lord!!!!  I won't abandon the football program like Puddin is, but for the love of Pete!!!  Who wants to hire Knight?  Tidwell?  Somebody use their brain her folks.  Knight will not be able to recruit well at Lamar and he runs a slow brand of ball that only a purist will like.  This is not a "sexy" hire or the right hire IMHO.
 11.
Still think Pat Knight is most likely going to get the job.
I think that there is a definate prefence to hire a minority.  Even without the preference, I am about as opposed to Knight as I am Abatemarco, maybe equally opposed.
 12. Abatemarco absolutely positively NO!!!!  Let someone else take that risk, his track record doesn't justify the chance.  LU needs desperately to get this hire right!!!!
 13. If this isn't "public relations" babble by Tidwell, then this is a definate reason why he doesn't need to be the AD!  He doesn't think big enough.  He is a great women coach and I wouldn't take anything away from him on that.  We need a big thinker as AD.  If we move to the WAC, Tidwell the coach I believe will rise to the occassion.  I am good with that!  Tidwell the AD is perfectly satisfied in the SLC.  I am definately not good with that!!!!!
 14. Isn't this his home course?  I thought he lived on Redstone.  Must be home crowd jitters.  I definately believe he has the talent to win on the tour.
 15.
I heard last night that Evans was a point guard at OU.  I like that as I believe point guards are typically more successful as coaches than other position players.  Point guards are usually the leader on the floor.  I also like it that he has proven he can win.
Alvin Brooks was a very good PG for Lamar, in my opinion the best since 1976 which is my years of watching LU.  It didn't trancend into success as a head coach so far for him.  Not disagreeing that there is something to what you are saying, just that it is not a guarantee.  That said, unless someone else comes into the mix, I am leaning toward Terry Evans as the new coach.  My next three, in no particular order are Cross, Cyprien & Skelton but I would consider Sean Sutton if I knew his problems were behind him.  Not sure why Scott Monarch is not getting more consideration and disappointed that others like Richard Patino are not interested.
 16.

I seriously doubt Lamar will hire Abatemarco. I think Cyprien isn't getting enough mention. It should be noted he has a good friend(s) that work in the AD. I also keep hearing that LU is leaning toward hiring a minority coach.
I can assure you he will get full consideration and you are right about his friend.  I didn't want to be the one to let that cat out of the bag.
I like Evans over Cyprien.  That is not a knock, just that Evans has a head coach track record and I like his background as a player as well.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
She's more pleasant than any of these gentlemen we are considering!  She's a firebrand and a tough competitor, and I still remember her in her playing days at LaTech with that long blond poneytail.  Call me what you want but she still aint half bad looking for a women of her age.

 19. The overall lack of quality at this point in our coaching search is troubling.  Apart from Terry Evans and Matt Cross, who else has proven they are a winner or don't have personal issues?  Evans has to be the man at this point, hands down with Cross as real possibility.  We are getting the reject former head coaches of the major conferences.  We don't have one top flight assistant on this list do we?  Come on folks, we need to aspire to better than this.
 20.
They hire Abatemarco  and I will turn my back on LU forever....they can have my tickets and passes and tailgate spots..I'll burn my LU flags..they will never get one cent from me again....... GO Pokes?...thats hard, but I can do it if he comes back....... btw...Bob West is a boob...........
Bob West is not a boob, but I think he is wrong on Abatemarco and I would not support him being hired under any circumstance. I would rather see UNLV as head coach than Abatemoutho if that tells you anything.  And why would you want to take it out on Woodard and the football team because you are pissed at Dr. Simmons over the basketball hire?  That doesn't make sense puddin.
 21. As reported elsewhere and credited to Jack at BobcatReports, UTEP is listening and has not said no at this point.  Don't know what this means for LU, but going to the WAC with UTEP would be a good thing IMHO!
And then later that night, they'll announce it's an April Fool's Day joke.  ;D ;D
I'll give that one JJ!!! :D
Clarence Key
Because Tubbs recruiting assistant, Denny Walsh had some good connection in North Carolina.  Thats how they signed Mike Oliver as well.  It wasn't because they had a large recruiting budget or that they had Cecil Newton type cash to hand out (nor would they have for that matter).  It was done on a shoestring budget.

 25. You Tubbs bashers don't understand we wouldn't even be having this conversation if it were not for him.  The BB program would be irrelevant and no Montagne Center without the success that he had and he did it without any resources.  He did it practically all by himself.  Geez!!!!
