Ozen has fairweather fans...The attendance at their games has dropped drastically.   I remember when they had Jacoby Jones running for touchdowns all over the place, their attendance at their games was low.  Central's band alone draws a huge crowd.   Pear Orchard Panther01 and Sasquatch what has happened to the Pear Orchard fans and the Hebert Alumni crowd?

The oringinal Soul Bowl Games were played between Beaumont Hebert and Charlton Pollard. They will forever be imitated, but never duplicated !!!

Those where the days, when both teams, bands and dancers left it all on the field. Panthers Coach Clifton J. Ozen and Bulldog Coach Willie Ray Smith Sr prepared their teams for battle at South Park Greenie Stadium until the game out grew it's capacity.

Then the games were moved to Lamar Cardinal Stadium and played before sell out crowds of 20,000 plus

Former Athletes, Students, Teachers etc would travel far and near to support their respective teams. However,it's sad to say, you don't see that kind of support for most teams locally anymore.

With that being said, let's pack the Carol A "Butch" Thomas Educational Support Center Friday night and show the Ozen Panthers and Central Jaguars some love as the 2-1 district foes battle it out on the field.

Good Luck to both teams !!!

    Go Ozen Panthers !!!

    Hebert Panther Alumnus !!!

Doesn't matter how many players that play both sides. Ned QB plays both. Bottom line is you gotta get it done. Ozen cuts out the TO's & give the 2 RB's the ball, they can beat anyone.

Working out of town so I missed the game. Anyways.... this was the last post I saw before checking out. Maybe all of the boasting should be thought out more cautiously before it rolls off of the tongue. Enjoy that crow.....ALL OF YOU. Good win Panthers!!!

We've given up 40 + points to every team we've played except Lumberton & we don't think Defense is the problem?? Heck, the only name I heard All Night was #25 & he was tackling with one arm. I agree the offense needs to get better, but the Defense needs to do much better. Only way we Win games is to out score opponents until the Defense steps up. All the Hype of these so called Middle School & Pee Wee league All Americans hasn't panned out. Friday Night Lights ain't MS or Pee Wee. Everybody is good @ Lower Levels, now that the playing field is sort of Level, the Hype is measuring up. I'm so Sick & Tired of listening to the excuses. If anyone has a reason to complain it could be my Family, but we choose to make no excuses for our Son. He has persevered through it All & will continue to make plays for his Team. This is a Team Sport & he will fight to the End or answer to me. Everyone needs to step up as a Community Win or Lose. This shouldn't be just left up to the kids. Either you're part of the solution or part of the problem. Not directed to anyone in particular, just responding to this Defense comment & had to Vent

See what happens when you flap your pie hole too early? Evidently, the speed did kill your Pirates in the second half. Lol

And this guy/gal didn't even come in to acknowledge his silly comment or give Ozen props. Typical fair weather fan.

I know one thing: Suggs and Company were confused at how to adjust to Memorial's d-line. 85 is right: they gotta shore up that oline, also I counted 41 players for Ozen lastnight: they can't afford injuries like the ones that seemed to occur lastnight. Ozen folks stick with your team, they will be better when district rolls around.

We're still here......just licking our wounds. It's been tough on us for a while during the preseason. We'll get better man. Memorial was clearly the better team tonight, make no mistake about it. We were overmatched. What I really don't like is the extra stuff after the whistle. Lots of unnecessary things going on from the start of the game throughout. But hey.....each coach is different. Congrats titans.....Go Panthers!!

I think we may have a misunderstanding about the term "show bands". To some ppl show style bands are the type that may do different things slightly beyond the norm to add a bit of excitement to their show. These bands can be seen quite often at uil contest. But the show style bands I'm referring to are more along the lines of the styles that the historically black colleges and universities adapted back in the 60's and 70's that still carry on today. Same word.....different meanings. But I feel ya...those types of show bands are entertaining as well!!

You are SO far from accurate and obviously have not witnessed Show Bands at the Highest level. Dont let these high schools, who work hard btw, fool you.The work and intensity put into the style would rival any top college football team and the intensity of competition, an nfl playoff game. You sound bitter and seem a tad bit secretly envious by the attention and admiration show style bands get. What does NOT give your argument any validity is the fact that you've NEVER been in a show style band. If you had been, you'd know better than to make such a shallow statement. Now.....back to football.........PLEASE

I can just give you my opinion from strickly a football person with no interest in band or any understanding or association of band.  I have witnessed both styles alot.  When I watch Central or Ozen I am entertained and usually watch the whole show.

I say congratulation to the schools that use halftime to practice their marches and UIL competetion and get 1 and 2's.. but from just a fan of football that is not entertaining and I can not name one school that got 1's or won that competetion or however they compete?  but i can remember the last time i watched central band and can even tell you which songs they played.

theres a reason they schedule concerts during the superbowl or nfl games and dont have the military out doing marches.  just sayin!

Ok.....I cant take it any more.....some of this argument is based STRONGLY off of personal opinion. I fear some opinions are rooted in something very ugly.....BUT.....moving forward I'll say this: as a former athlete who gave up sports for music and band (which earned me a scholarship btw) I think the argument about Central's band and Ozen for that matter is rooted in selfishness and the wrong kind of pride. The pride or arrogance that says conform to "our style" and "your style" will never be accepted or taken seriously. I've been truly blessed to be a part of both worlds(so to speak). In hs I marched in a well known school around here, and yes we made one's at uil because we focused on THAT competition and what it would take to be successful there. And it was fun and fulfilling.....but when I went to college....oh my.....I was introduced to a WHOLE new thing. The competition level was "turned up" 100 degrees. I was blessed to be a part of the "World Famed" Grambling State University Tiger Marching Band. No, we did not get invited to the band festivals or dci type competitions (which I love btw..lol), but we do have an extensive list of accomplishments. Try the FIRST Super Bowl halftime show (followed by about six more since then), nba, nfl, cfl, and arena football halftimes and games, presidential inaugurations here....and in other countries. When Clemson and Wake Forest played in the Mirage Bowl in Tokyo, Japan a while back they left both their bands at home and invited Grambling to take BOTH their places.....why you ask? Because there was/is a need for SOMETHING DIFFERENT. U.I.L. is NOT the "all end" for marching bands. Sorry....Maybe for your school's band it is, but not everyone's. And that's ok if it is. Heck, the band kids appreciate the different styles of band more than some grown folks do. Now I'll say this....Central is loud. Some folks don't do loud.....some folks, particularly young ppl, only know loud. Soft, controlled, and tame won't cut it, especially at a football game. The Panthers and Jags and even Titans bands and other schools generate excitement for their fan base and even opposing schools fans as well.Appreciate the variety!!!! Our district is LOADED with it. That's a beautiful thing!! Now let's have a good year and encourage ALL of the kids participating. Trust me....they ALL put in a lot of work to bring to us all!!

Ive never been in band and all 6 of my kids prefer the athletic side of things but from what I gather, they go to UIL competitions because they have to and they tend to not do well. It's not a secret. The kids and staff look forward to the "show" competitions which has other bands of their same styles and the Jaguars usually get the highest marks possible.

So just like the Central band gets low marks in the UIL competition, YOUR band would get low marks in a "show" competition. Don't knock a school and their style because it isn't what you like. Just like some football coaches prefer to pass the ball and some prefer to run it as for offensive schemes go, it doesn't make either style right or wrong. Band directors are allowed to create their own style (maybe not at your school) and it doesn't make either wrong are right. In the end, it's all about the kids and not what a few posters on here like and dislike.

Every year Central's band is the only band that gets its on thread, i truly wonder why. Carry on band...

I'll look for ya Thursday doc. Saw some nice things last night. We'll be very effective on defense. As far as the O.....no way Suggs was gonna show his hand to pam. We'll be just fine. Rodney did great btw. I remember him from his s.t.a. days...lol. I volunteer coached there for a couple years and my son played there also. Your other son does well in the band too man.Talented, blessed kids. God is good!!!
