How is it broad or ignorant? I didn't indict all select coaches. I'm sure most are fine people. In fact I know few. I have, however seen a few broad and ignorant posts talking about high school coaches.

Most high school coaches also coach 3 sports, have families, and during the summertime are preparing for the upcoming football season. They also like to get a little fishing in and what have you. Most high school coaches are volunteering their time helping their kids little dribbler basketball team, their sons little league team, or their daughters softball team. A good coach is also going to be a good evaluator of talent so he isn't going to have to go trapsing around southeast texas lurking around select games to watch little Nolan Ryan. I've known select coaches who coach these teams because they've been removed from high school ball, or had trouble in the classroom. I'll take a high school coach any day over a select coach.

So if one guy from the refinery gets promoted and doesn't meet expectations then the next time a promotion is available then it should go outside the plant?

I understand what you're saying but the opposite would probably happen as well. It wouldn't matter if he cared for the kids, checked up on them at home, made sure they did their homework, taught them to be men, if he had one or two bad seasons he'd be gone. if : A. he went 1-9 the same people that want someone to stick around would be calling for his head. B. The community isn't concerned with people helping their kids, they want 10 wins a year and a state championship every 3-4 years. C. if the shoe is on the other foot and there is 2-3 losing seasons the fans will definitely say departure is the answer. Hard life being a coach. When you win everybody loves you, when that proves difficult nothing else that you do matters. Dads at the refinery, mill, truckstop can't comprehend it.

However, it still doesn't mean that a 1A, 2A, 3A or 4A coach can't be successful at the 5A level. Afterall, Stump was successful at a 3A private school. Just another thought.

How old is Vance? Will his offense work at the 4A level? They run 99+% of the time. That question gets me every time. If its successful enough to win state then of course it would be successful at the 4A level.

I wonder if people on the street would spend $2-3K to get the best AP Microeconomics teacher in the state???? Sure, the same day the economics dept. brings the income the football program does, no problem. Never understood what makes a football coach worth so much more in education than a teacher........I guess now I do. :-[ Actually if one was to really look at the numbers one would find football does not make that much money in the big picture. When is the last time 14,000 packed a stadium to watch a microeconomics test?

I bet Vance is just trying to get more money. He is a fantistic coach without a doubt but he runs the ball 99.9% of the time. Would that work in 4A and in this area and region? It works for the Pittsburgh Steelers! Sure it would work. In this region? He's won state with it 2 times and almost 3 peated. 4A? I bet he plays several 4a's in non district. You think Hooks/Barbay couldn't win at the 4A level? Im not saying that he's the guy, I know there are many many other very capable coaches that have applied but don't discount him because of the offense he runs. It is successful.

I'd want Vance. You can't argue with the success Liberty Hill has had. 2 State Championships and a finalist the last 3 years.

The slot T would be awesome in 4A. I'm sure he plays teams as good as the ones PNG does. There isn't really any difference between 3A and 4A. P.S. The Pittsburgh Steelers don't run the spread!

I have a hard time making the youth season as it currently stands. I have two little hunters and my wife doesn't hunt, so I have to alternate or double up with one pouting because he isnt' holding the gun. As the season stands now I can make 4 hunts with 2 for each child. However because of my line of work and having to work every Sat and Sun during football season I'm usually unable to take them unless its a Sunday evening. Every now and then we'll get off early on Sat evn. I was hoping for the expanded season during October. What will the youth season be in Jan?

One step at a time. Why do you say that pngfan? You think Alvarez is PNG's man? I don't know about PNG? I think there may be a step to be taken before 5A. I think a step from 2A Kirbyville to A 4A like LC-M or PNG would be more likely than landing a 5A deal. I've seen 1A to 5A before. And 1A to 4A several times. I've also seen 5A guys (coordinators) come down to 1A's as HC's and not be successful. If a person is a good coach, then they can coach at any level.

Why do you "deserve" to know? What decision do you have in the process? Unless you are on the committee, you have no say as to whom gets hired, so what difference does it make who applies? You elected officials to do their job. Let them do it and don't worry about it. Support your elected officials and support their decision. How will they know if they agree with the decision the board or committee makes if they don't know the choices? These people were elected, you are right. However, how will the people that elected them know if they wanted to vote them back in or not if they don't know if they agree with the decisions that they are making????????????????? You will know by the great job the new head coach does! Not really how a voter wants his or her information, Young Coach. Voters should be fully and completely informed on who or whom they are putting in office to make decisions for them, example, WOS school board voting against the bus issue. You're not a voter on this issue. The only issue you can vote on is who to put in office to make the deicsions. Just like Obama is now the President...there is nothing we can do about it now, until 2012. You can't do anything about what he does until then. Just like you can't do anything about what the hiring committee decides. All you can do is wait until the next election to decide if you want to re-elect them or not. Don't worry...you'll get your list, but there is nothing you can do about it. No need to worry about things you can't control. No one was arguing who was voting on the new coach. Read slower and listen. You spend too much time trying to get your point across that you don't read what anyone else thinks. You made the exact same point I did and as a voter that is what you want to inform yourself with is the information about the people that are in office now. That way you know if you want them back in office. Do they think like me. Do they vote like I would vote. Do they study all options. Do they get all of the information and make sure it's correct or do they just show up and look at the agenda and vote. So what will producing the list prove?

How is focusing on one a detriment to the others? The other sports have head coaches as well that will focus on that sport. The football coach should be the AD. If not, football is going to suffer big time because if the AD doesn't realize that football needs a lot of coaches coaching it then its in trouble. Just one reason.

I disagree wholeheartedly. The AD doesn't "direct" the other sports. The other sports will have head coaches that handle the day to day duties of their sport. Most AD's that I know want their entire program to be competitive and most want their football players to be competitive all year long by playing other sports.

Football brings in much more fans than basketball. When is the last time a basketball game brought in 14,000 fans for a game? Homecomings are during football, the pep rallies are during football, etc.... In Texas more people are fans of football than basketball.

What would the community know about "qualities" of each applicant? Simply reading the record of some coach out in Wichita Falls does not make one knowledgeable about his qualities.

Football requires more coaches than any other sport, has more players than any other sport, and brings more fans than any other sport. I do not foresee any lawsuits over this.

Not in the Teaching profession. In the teaching profession, teachers are under contract. Even at the end of that contract term, teachers have to be renewed unless the administration has placed that teacher under a growth plan and the teacher hasn't lived up to the requirements of the growth plan or has done something that violates board policy.

Between myself and my two little ones we managed to take 5 deer this season. 3 bucks 2 does Saw lots of deer this year. Can't wait till next year.
