With what they have returning, I think PNG will be better next year if they can replace Shea.

Nyguen will be tough, but Chatagnier and the young RB coming up should be able to fill in.  Having most of that O-line back sure makes things easier.

Reid Richards is one that hardly came off the field.  Kid is a ball player.  It may take 2 guys to replace him, but it can be done.

As for Shea…PNG won more games with him out this season than when he played.  That said, he was never truly out.  I commented on many game threads this season about him on the sidelines on a scooter giving signals and rolling around motivating the team and getting in Bailey’s ear after every series.  All of his 1 & 2 yard TD’s from the wildcat can be easily replaced.  The leadership he displayed the last 2 seasons on and off the field was the difference in my opinion.

Stats can be replaced.  Leadership is much harder to quantify.  If someone can fill Shea’s huge shoes, PNG should have another great season.

Come on, let's get real:  Nobody complained about the officiating crew before the game.  WHY?!  Because SOC thought they were not going to lose the game!!

The projected districts has us in a district of 7 teams, which means 4 non district games.  If this is the case, I’d want…
    1. PN-G
    2. Channelview
    3. Mongomery
    4. Fort Bend Hightower

I was so sad when his brother got injured. He was a stud with over 90 tackles last season. He was a BA wideout as well.

even if challenges were allowed I don think a DPI could be challenged
I do think SOC makes it back, they are loaded at the lower levels with talent and several sophomores played key roles...
When we are talking about talent SOC only had one kid sign with Texas Tech today, a couple go G5 and a few FCS kids....absolutely nothing like last year

The 2023 season has been over for four days now, so naturally, it's time to talk about the 2024 season.
Post-realignment, who do you want your team to play in pre-district during the 2024-25 seasons?
I'll start. For PN-G, in order of preference, I want:
Port Arthur Memorial; Silsbee; Barbers Hill; Jasper; and/or West Orange-Stark. I suspect PN-G will be in a weaker (though possibly larger) district next year, so I want a more thorough pre-district test to prepare us for the playoffs.

You’re correct. That was by far the worst team PNG has had in probably more than 20 years, paired with the best player Vidor has ever had. Everyone but Silsbee and Lumberton had their way with us in 2012.  I don’t think it had anything to do with the choice of offense.

I don't wholly disagree with this statement, but I will make two counterpoints.
First, the 2009 Indians could have won the state championship. Had it not been for a bad first half against Brenham played under the worst circumstances imaginable, I continue to believe today that PN-G would have played for the state championship that year, and would have had a very real shot at beating Aledo. Joe Dale Cary left after 2010, and the PN-G defense never recovered under Faircloth's leadership. That was the factor Faircloth was really missing, in my opinion.
Second, offense may be entertaining for the fans, but I believe a strong defense is a huge factor in fan engagement, at least in any way that impacts the game. Most fans know not to be too loud when their team is on offense to avoid disrupting the snap count, and to be very loud when their team is on defense specifically because they want to disrupt the snap count or force other mistakes. Fans with confidence in a good defense are more likely to participate in that way, which in turn helps make the defense more successful, in turn boosting fan confidence in the defense. In short, they feed off of each other. For the Indians, the proof was in the pudding this year. The Indian Faithful were louder and more involved in the game this year than I can remember them being at any point post-2009.

It was unfair - Everything depended on what district you came from. You could have a couple 1450 student schools playing 2,000 student schools just because a couple teams with 1449 made the playoffs in their district.

Two of those years (1999, and 2000) we played the best team in the state and still to this day two of the best defenses I've seen in Texas City (1999) and Bay City 2000 both those teams were big physical fast and well coached...the 2001 team was not near as talented but played with a ton of heart and once again ran into a team that was more physical than us (Smithson Valley) looking back on it now our best shot at state was really the 1998 team but we fell apart in the 2nd half vs. Bay City that year...fact is Larry Neumann changed the mentality of Nederland when he came in 1993 that mentality has now reverted back to the Pre-Neumann era and I don't see things getting better anytime soon with the current system in place

Faircloth was a good coach.  He just didn't have the "it" factor to be an elite coach.  There's really nothing to be ashamed of, though, because at any one time there are only less than 10% championship-type coaches.  But like you said, offense is for the fans -- defense wins championships.  Always did and always will!

The physical difference in PnG’s players after one off-season under Joseph was obvious. We went from being skinny high school kids to developed athletes. The progress only continued into year two. I don’t know if Faircloth just didn’t have a lot of faith in the weight room, or thought we were already doing enough, but it’s clear now there was another level to get the boys to.

Faircloth ran a great tremendous program at PNG! Won many many games for them, and his last year there he went to what round 4? Faircloth had a great winning culture, solid foundation was laid for Coach Joseph and company to come right in and get to work. It’s crazy to me the transition PNG had tho went from an offensive team we going to outscore you to a defensive team and limit positions. I mean look at that FBM Marshall game 7-0 win they had. But look how it has played out, offense will win you some games, but Defense wins championships!!

It would seem to me after PNG's State Title that pressure would mount on the Super and school board at Nederland to do something.  We shall see!

Let PNG look as bad as Nederland look and see what that culture looks likes. Good coaching brings about good culture.  If Nederland had Joseph and PNG had Nederland’s coach we’d be talking about how bad the PNG culture is.

I don’t know that SOC makes it back next year. That region is stacked and they will be adding Anna (4A D1 State Champ) who is moving up.
I like PNGs odds though. All that said it is very hard to win 5 straight against top talent each week, especially when you go into each game with a bullseye on your back like PNG will next year.

The soph QB really stepped up, and the big Offensive line did too. The receiver-back up QB - punter #11 is a jr, and will play a big part again next season. #15 rb will also. On defense there will be lots of big roles to fill. But db #10, and LBs 4 and 43 are juniors. I'm not sure how many D linemen with starting or regular roles are returning.
Anyway, it's been fun watching this year's team, and it's been fun watching the seniors play for the past 6 years. Or 5 years? They were undefeated 2 years in middle school, and "won district" as a jv team, then went to state their 2 years on varsity. (This is speaking by-and-large, since a few of the SRS played on varsity as sophomores.)
