  1. There have been so many great Mustangs that it's tough to say, but I'll try (in no particular order): 1. Kenneth Beasley (currently at UT) 2. Kevin Smith (Texas A&M, 3 SB rings with Dallas) 3. Eric Anderson 4. Chris Cole (Texas A&M, Broncos) 5. Jeff Thibodeaux (Tulsa) 6. Gayron Allen (won one title with OU) 7. Paul Thomas 8. Kendall Cleveland (LSU, Buffalo Bills) 9. Ernest Anderson 10. Brian Cleveland The future is looking good, though. Hopefully we'll have an Earl Thomas, Jacoby Franks or Depauldrick Garrett on that list soon. I feel like I've left out a ton of people.
  2. Leave Jody's spelling alone. My understanding is that he isn't tall enough to see the keyboard.
  3. I posted this under the O-line topic after someone said Vidor should "surprise some people this year," but I decided to move it so as not to hijack a thread. So here we go: Sounds like Vidor has a big line, but I don't expect any surprises. I did last year when they had 10/10 returning, but not after that crashed and burned. I'll be honest, even though Vidorians will freak: I think they have one of the worse coaches in the area. I know he's animated and really does talk a good game - and he's probably better than his predecessors. But one playoff season and gobs of seasons in the cellar don't make you a great coach. There's as much talent there as there is in Nederland, but I really think they need a new captain to steer the ship. I think the guy there now is a bit of a boob. Sorry.
  4. Anahuac was pretty crappy the last two years anyway.
  5. Oh... Whew! He pretty much plays both ways. He was our defensive leader last year. I'm expecting him to have as much impact on that side of the ball as the other.
  6. Earl Thomas will play mostly offense? That's actually VERY surprising to me. He was in on D all year last year. Why are they making this change?
  7. Jody, WO-S and Newton do have a history. We've played six times, with 1998 (Newton's championship year) the most recent, I think. We're 6-0 against them, although some of the games have been fairly close. I agree that if we're going to play, let's do it somewhere AWAY from the coast.
  8. Did anyone else realize that there are now two teams in 22-4A w/ a 10-year streak going? Dayton is right there too! That's pretty cool.
  9. I thought the Renfro kid acted like a pr#ck when he finally made a play. Beasley had him shut down all night, then they stuck in some other guy and he scored a TD and got in Beasley's face on his way back to the sidelines. It was like, "Yeah, see what I can do when YOU aren't covering me?"
  10. I'd disagree that we've had "one good season" in the last several. Our average record since the calendar rolled to 2000 is 9-2. That might not be dominant, but it's "good" for most teams. Yeah, BH might go undefeated in the regular season, but who do they play? And they always get bounced from the playoffs pretty early, don't they? How many times in recent history have they won two playoff games or more? We both have two titles, but we've done it in a fraction of the time. If you think people in other parts of the state don't know us, think again - or just read Kelly Football's post.
  11. What? ... and why would you have to hit them twice? Shouldn't you knock them down on the first shot? Oh, wait...
  12. (Whip-cracking sound) Is that how they run it up in Mont Belvieu? I'm married and I'll be there Should be a passable warmup for pre-district.
  13. Now that you mention it, we always talk at the Lumberton/WO-S "games" about how the raiders always seem to have a "mini-me" type player. Seriously. Coincidence that it comes up in this thread
  14. Interesting. I'm a little surprised to see Jasper in over Silsbee with all of the recent talk, but I'm not shocked.
  15. Hallelujah. I'm glad now that the idiot on the board wasted days of her time trying to squash it. She deserves to lose valuable time. Congratulations to Coach Hooks and the Mustang family!
  16. Why couldn't he at least acknowledge the "score?" Sorry, I was disappointed because I woke my wife up to watch and all he ended up doing was mentioning the controversy and referring people to the website. I hoped he would at least read one or two and mention the imbalance in community sentiment.
  17. I tuned in for THAT CRAP? "Check out our web page." That's IT? Booo.
  18. tvc... Would you oppose Nederland renaming their stadium after Neumann if his success continues? If not, then what reason might you have for opposing this? If it's not wanting him to coach actively in a stadium that bears his name, then specify. I'm sure the board could have the measure passed with the condition that it is not officially changed until after his retirement. I'd even support that. But, as my wife wrote in her e-mail, because of Coach Hooks, people around Texas know the name West Orange-Stark. It's only fitting that people coming to the stadium know HIS name long after he has retired. He has given the school a legacy. He deserves one of his own.
  19. Yep. The only reason Martin doesn't want it named after him is spite.
