  1. I don't think it's a matter of being "proud of our area." I don't doubt that Dayton will come to play, but so will the other teams - including Ozen, who beat them last year and returns the top DB prospect in the state.
  2. Dayton does have a lot of potential with an all-state caliber RB, but I don't see them as a power in this district.
  3. What an unbelievably weak district - especially compared to its neighbor. Is this the weakest in the state top-to-bottom?
  4. I'd narrow it down to Hebert, WO-S and Newton - the undefeated teams.
  5. If you don't want to get blown out, don't suck.
  6. We WON 15 in 4A in 2000, when we went 15-1. 8)
  7. A 4A team's freshman squad SHOULD be able to beat a 2A JV team. If they didn't, then it's a negative reflection on that 4A team and a positive one on the 2A team.
  8. I know that, LR, but they WILL be, and we're talking about NEXT year. Your stats are incorrect, because they are WAY off from him being second.
  9. I was at a Madison game in the Dome too. I think it was against Yates or someone, though, not Katy. It was immediately before a WO-S game and we got there early. It was also very high scoring both ways. Fun game to watch!
  10. Mmkay... I will root for the Raiders this year, BUT: The QB was fifth in district. The receiver was third. Ozen's Ben Wells will probably be the best DB in district, and I think he is already committed to the Longhorns. Team spirit is awesome, but let's be realistic and not skew the facts too much.
  11. Jody isn't saying we'll lose any games, if you'll read his initial post. He's saying we'll come in confident and play "loose," which is a good thing.
  12. Their QB was second in district how? I think Lumberton will be improved, but what did you mean by that? From the stats I see, there were six QBs in the current district (Ozen, Dayton, PN-G, Nederland, LC-M, Central) who were ahead of him in passing stats. So really he was second to the bottom of the district. With Dayton coming in, I don't think Lumberton has a chance at the playoffs this year, but possibly heading a step in the right direction.
  13. Well, if you had to target a weakness between the running and passing, then I suppose the passing was somewhat weaker. I'd still say he was even the best passer in our area this year.
  14. Depauldrick Garrett ('08) has the physical skills to be WO-S's best RB ever. We'll see how he develops.
  15. The Nederland game wasn't a great one for Beasley as far as passing went (I'm assuming it was the ned game), but he did go 11-18-1 for 135 and 2 TDs, which isn't terrible.
  16. WO-S's Earl Thomas has committed verbally to UT.
  17. Morris Thomas? Isn't he a transfer FROM WO-S? I thought we only transferred IN?
  18. Actually, since Beasley only played one season at QB, you can't really compare track records. If you do, you can say that Jasper lost two games during Mitchell's senior year, while WO-S only lost the semifinal game during Beasley's.
  19. With 3,300 total yards and 47 total touchdowns in a single season, you can't laugh at Beasley as a selection, homer pick or not. I'd say Beasley as well, with Long as a close second.
  20. I'm assuming you're combining records of some of the schools that eventually became WO-S, since we've only been a school since 1978. I think the record vs. the actual West Orange-Stark is 6-25. Not to be nit-picky, just an observation.
  21. There are plenty of things that WO-S is "second" or "average" in, but football isn't one of them. I don't think many people would classify the Stangs football program that way.
  22. The point is that our pressbox is currently in about 10,000 pieces. It was scattered all over the stands and field - destroyed completely by Rita. First, you have to replace what isn't there. Our field is fine. We'll worry about turf when everything else is in place. Priorities, people...
  23. NON-PLAYOFF game, he said... WO-S vs. Bay City in 2000: In a pre-district meeting of that years DI 4A state champ and DII 4A state finalist, WO-S wins a defensive battle, handing the Blackcats their only loss of the season, as they finished 14-1. WO-S finished the season 15-1, with the only loss in the finals to Ennis. PN-G vs. WO-S in 1998: WO-S holds Dustin Long and crew out of the end zone from inside the red as the clock ticks off the final 10 seconds. WO-S hangs on for the win.
