Here is my understanding as to what the situation is:

    1.  The ruling by the DEC was based upon an internal investigation by the BISD into allegations made to district AD's earlier in the week about an ineligible player.

    2.  The controversy centered around a Jaguar who began the season with insufficient credits to be eligible.

    3.  By UIL rule, if a player begins the season with ineligible credits, he is ineligible for the first six weeks of the school year.  If the student is passing after the first six weeks, he regains his eligibility.

    4.  By the timeline, which was established after conferring with the UIL in Austin, the student in question would not have been eligible to play for Central until the Oct. 13th game against Nederland.

    5.  The student, backup/special teams player, played in 3 district games while ineligible, 9/20 vs. Memorial, 9/26 vs. Vidor, and 10/7 vs. Ozen.  2 of those games, Central lost so no forfeit was required there.  But as Central defeated Ozen 49-14, they had to forfeit that game.

    6.  The DEC unaniously determined that there was no intent by Central to play an ineligible player.  However, playing an ineligible player is a ZERO tolerance violation so the forfeiture was mandated.

FYI - just got this statement from BISD

"It was discovered that a student athlete at Central Medical Magnet High School was one half credit short of eligibility. The District Executive Committee met and it was determined that Central High School will forfeit the game against Ozen High School and therefore will be ineligible for playoffs."

I feel sorry for the Seniors. This is really sad. My heart goes out to the fellas.........Looks like im following the Chain Gang on the road this postseason

Exactly. Asked Barrow about that since Nederland went through a similar situation last year w/ Livingston.

I remember the day of every television van in town at the game. But thanks for your efforts. The Snooze is lacking with all 3 of the locals. MCM, and PAM... Glad to hear Halliburton is helping out. he's a class act...

Yeah, Tom's been helping us out for the last year or so. He'll do football, volleyball, track and whatever else really. Enjoy having him and his experience around.

Was talking about the Port Arthur News. That both schools are within walking distance of.

Just finished at West Brook football...here's the Bmt Enterprise coverage plan for tomorrow for MCM.

I'll be covering the game itself - live updates, game story, videos, etc.

Our other sports reporter, Matt, will be at the game doing a live stream. The live stream will be with fans, giving analysis, getting reaction, etc. No, we won't be live broadcasting the actual on-field action for the most part. Not trying to get in trouble with the UIL. This part of our coverage is something we haven't done before and I'm hoping it goes well. (P.S. we'll be doing a lot of live stuff before the game and welcome any PN-G or Ned fans to come talk with us and give insight)

We will also have two photographers there, so we should have the game covered well...I hope. I, for one, am really looking forward to tomorrow.

Tom Halliburton will also be at Memorial vs. Vidor for us. We're kind of strapped for stringers past him right now, though. One had a family medical emergency a couple weeks ago and won't be able to do games the rest of the way. Another hasn't been able to help the entire year because he lost his cars to Harvey. Trying to make things happen, regardless!

Right? I asked Roschon after the game last week if he'd stay away from social media this week and he said yeah. No surprise there lol (I'm sure you've talked to him a lot since then).

Rivalry really is fun to watch, especially as an outsider.

  6. Been here three years, Friday will be my second Mid-County Madness I've covered.

Realized it was a big deal (duh) when the students of the schools started talking trash on Twitter.

Was amazed how many of them actually care about the rivalry - at least on Twitter:

My high school in Phoenix won three state titles when I was in school and had one of the best - if not the best - rivalries in the state. Doesn't even come close to MCM.

Because those old grandpa's don't go to games and they think they know everything.  And they have an uncanny way of making anyone who'll actually listen to them believe the garbage that comes out of their piehole..

Agree with this completely. But no, I don't go and talk to anyone when doing these rankings.

    Smh.

Again, Newton should be higher. They've destroyed, literally DESTROYED the competition averaging the highest differential of points out of all teams in SETX.  They also lead in Yards per game.

WO-S is undefeated, yes, but had struggled with H-J and Silsbee and had to pull away late from Liberty to win that one.

    Where is Evadale?  Smh

West Brook just mowed down. Very good Oak Ridge team where the QB, Elia just threw for almost 400 yards and ran for almost 200 yards and three for 7 TD's and ran for 2.  (9 total TD's if our addition is correct.  WB should. Be higher.

Are you doing these rankings are are you piggybacking off of what a old grandpa at the barber shop said....

Laughable at best.  A real knee slapper...

Always look forward to your response on this. Like I've said before, 1 through 3 are interchangeable.

Evadale was No. 10 last week...but also they lost to Iola, so they dropped out.

Nice bounce-back win for West Brook, hence why they're back in my rankings.

Real question I have is how often you think I'm going to barbershops and asking old grandpas for their opinions on hs football rankings??

  9. FYI

Matt Stepp's new predictions would drop Ozen, Lumberton and Silsbee down a class.

    Class 6A: 2,170 and above
    Class 5A Division I: 1,770 to 2,169
    Class 5A Division II: 1,160 to 1,769
    Class 4A Division I: 785 to 1,159
    Class 4A Division II: 485 to 784
    Class 3A Division I: 330 to 484
    Class 3A Division II: 230 to 329
    Class 2A Division I: 165 to 229
    Class 2A Division II: 104.5 to 164
    Class 1A Division I: 63 to 104.4
Class 1A Division II: 62 and below
