I'm not gonna come on here and say that we will do big things this year, but... we do return a pretty good amount of people who last year had a loss to Livingston in the last seconds that should not have happened, and only lost to central by 1 point on a decision to go for 2 instead of a field goal. So don't count us out either just yet. We were a lot closer than what people realize to being a playoff team last year, and we will have better experience this year. Might just make things a little more interesting.

Was out at Lumberton practice today, actually. Lots of big linemen and Babin's excited about Bridges at QB. Need to cut down on turnovers, though...

While I agree that the timing of Danny's request, given the annual excitement about the return to practice for the 2017, may not have been the greatest in the world, he at least deserves the benefit of the doubt for attempting some research into the issue before taking to print on based on numbers and incidents having nothing to do with the area.  As I told Danny, I don't know, and quite frankly I doubt, that he will get what he is looking for here as most, if not all, who frequent this forum are pretty heavily invested in their school's programs so this is not the place where he is likely to find someone who has decided to leave a football program.

But I have been wrong before and perhaps he will find someone who can flesh out a potential story of this issue. It is nothing new for a Enterprise sports reporters to seek out folks here who can give an insight to a story idea as Danny's former colleague, David Thompson, fished here on a regular basis.  And there are times that such forays did provide the needed flesh for some of those stories.

I'll be looking to see what you can find, Danny.

Appreciate it...and like I said, my contact info is above if anyone knows of anybody. Thanks.

Somebody went to their editor and wants to write about this.  From what I can remember... coaches cannot give out contact info of the players...protected information.

Story you attached is from California.  From what I am seeing in the Southeast Texas area ia the numbers remaining steady or increasing......

Right, which is why I'm reaching out in this way. There are national numbers in that story. Southeast Texas does not have any concrete data to back up that claim, however.

I assume it is the way it used to be in that 1. the coaches favorite 2, how hard the coach pressures Danny and the rest 3. Do they personally know them.

Bad thing about sports writers is most, not all, don't have a clue about the game and never played it

Bob West and Tom Halliburton excluded Maybe Shapiro too I don't know him

I also have coaches send regular season stats for the entire team in case someone doesn't get nominated. Have to cover your bases, no pun intended.

  6. Hello everyone,

Each year the Beaumont Enterprise does a special breast cancer awareness section in our first Sunday paper of October.

I'm looking for a high school football athlete that wears pink during games to honor a relative/friend who has been affected by breast cancer or just cancer in general.

Can anyone here help me locate a player who would be willing to talk and get featured in this Sunday section? I'll leave my info below. Thanks.

Tims had 12 tackles in the state championship, 3 for loss and won the defensive MVP. Those stats weren't kept by WOS.

I use plenty of factors when voting, and don't just get caught up on stats. Every coach uses players in different ways. Some rest players when building a lead, others don't have that option and need every single point to win.

Dallas led his team to a 15-1 record, going 13-1 against playoff teams. Including Silsbee. Opponents combined records, 120-81.

Thomas led his team to an 11-3 record, going 6-3 against playoff teams. Opponents combined records, 84-80.

This just one thing I looked at to go along with watching both.

Another thing I ask is who would I want to lead me in the final drive of the game. Dallas is the most precise passer I've seen in a long time. He doesn't need huge numbers, he manages the game.

When the ballot first came out I was going with Thomas. But then I started digging more and more, and comparing. Just my choice. Zero bias. I enjoy working around all of these young men.

I mean, if you really want to talk about who you'd want to lead you in the final drive of a game:

This is the hidden content, please

  8. I had a vote in the WRS awards and here's who I voted for and why:

Dontre Thomas, Silsbee - Just look at his stats. Kid has one hell of a year. He legit willed Silsbee to multiple playoff wins in spite of a terrible, terrible defense. Without Thomas, Silsbee isn't even winning a playoff game, much less the district. The Jack Dallas 'led his team to a state title' is bogus, too. Sure, Jack played a big part in them winning but did you see the WOS defense? Best defense in SETX and it wasn't even close. Dontre should have won this easy.

Innis Gaines - Best defensive player I saw this year by far. Extremely quick and perceptive and absolutely tormented opponents every week. Helped a very average West Brook team make the playoffs. Plus, there's no way Tims had over 200 total tackles. Sorry, but those stats are padded big time. And to be fair, the WOS defense was so good all around. Innis carried the WB defense.

For the record: I understand why Jack Dallas was selected. I can see how that's justified after watching him play. Wonderful player. Tims' selection on the other hand, not as much.
